  • This study seeks to analyze various aspects of women's fear of sexual crime committed against them within the Seoul metropolitan subway system, which takes center stage in public transportation today in Korea; that is, among different kinds of fear of crime, women's fear of sexual crime is empirically examined, and it is expected that the results of this study shall serve as an important basis for future policy-making, so that the fear of sexual crime against women in the subway system could be reduced. To the end, this study aims first, to investigate the real picture of women's using the subway and their attire, second, to look into the amount of information on such crime obtained and the level of its awareness, third, to analyze the characteristics of the fear of sexual crime in the subway system, and lastly, to empirically examine the relationship between women's regular women's regular attire/their level of information on such crime obtained and their fear of sexual crime. As a quantitative research method to discover facts, this study utilizes reality-analyztical and technical research methods, and for its final statistical analysis, uses questionnaire answered and returned by 509 women, out of a total of 520 female commuters on the Seoul metropolitan subway system who had originally been requested to participate in the survey. The result of this study demonstrates that the level of women's fear of sexual crime on the subway is relatively high. In detail, the higher their monthly income is, the more fearful women feel on the subway; it has also been found that women living in housing they own or in leased housing on deposits (Jeonse) fear sexual crime on the subway more than those living in the other forms of housing. However, the level of fear has been found to be low for those types of sexual crime judged to be relatively unlikely to be committed. Lastly the result of the relationship between women's regular attire/their level of information on such crime obtained and their fear of sexual crime is relatively high and very effective.

  • This study is to develop a named entity recognition model specialized in criminal investigation domains using deep learning techniques. Through this study, we propose a system that can contribute to analysis of crime for prevention and investigation using data analysis techniques in the future by automatically extracting and categorizing crime-related information from text-based data such as criminal judgments and investigation documents. For this study, the criminal investigation domain text was collected and the required entity name was newly defined from the perspective of criminal analysis. In addition, the proposed model applying KoELECTRA, a pre-trained language model that has recently shown high performance in natural language processing, shows performance of micro average(referred to as micro avg) F1-score 98% and macro average(referred to as macro avg) F1-score 95% in 9 main categories of crime domain NER experiment data, and micro avg F1-score 98% and macro avg F1-score 62% in 56 sub categories. The proposed model is analyzed from the perspective of future improvement and utilization.

  • This is a study on age-crime curve in Korea. Three data was used in this study as following: First is the crime statistics as aggregated data. Second is the police record(N=3.541 offences) of the male ex-offenders(N=988) who have been released in eleven prisons in 1987 as individual data. Third is the self-reported group-interview data(N=10.198 offences) administered to the male prisoners(N=979) in ten correctional facilities including eight adult prisons, one juvenile prison and one juvenile training center as another individual data. Generally, the right-skewness of age-crime curve has been explained through the difference of crime rate between early starters and late starters. Moffitt explains that this is because of the higher participation rate of the juvenile period of adolescence-limited offenders, but Godttfredson and Hirschi explain that this is because of a similar distribution in the crime rate of both early starters and late starters. the analysis of this study shows that Godttfredson and Hirschi’s explanation on the generality of age-crime-curve distribution is correct, but this can be modified by various factors like a economic crisis. And the peak age of juvenile period is consistent with the Moffitt’s hypothesis that the peak age is contributed to the increase of crime rate of late starters, not with Godttfredson and Hirschi’s one.

  • Recently, as violent crimes of crime without reason (Korea : Do not ask), women and the elderly are getting serious. In the existing system, many CCTVs are installed, but it is difficult to prevent crime due to only follow-up measures after a crime occurs. This device prevents crime through this device for incidents in shaded areas and closed spaces such as apartments and buildings. To do this, we research this technology to develop products and software. It sends an alarm signal using communication technology to a specific place where you want to receive an event of an alarm or a CCTV device operated using image analysis big data technology and convergence sensor technology for a specific target of the behavior expected to be a crime or movement. Develop the device. This development device researches and develops this device and supplies low-cost devices to consumers, which is used as a device that predicts the occurrence of crime in advance, processes it as an alarm signal in real time, and transmits it, and constitutes a standalone device and a server. Will provide the device to be connected.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the environmental planning guidelines of elementary school settings for a crime safety. The research methodologies To achieve the goal, the literature review analysis and the survey were used as main research methodologies. The survey is organized as follows. First, elementary education facilities were divided into 20 spaces based on the major space. Second, after analyzing the domestic and foreign CPTED Guidelines, elements of environmental planning were classified to fit in the space. Based on this, the expert survey was conducted. The results of this study are as follows; First, it is necessary to consider specific places such as 'toilets', 'parking lot', 'in-between space', 'main access road', 'sub-access road' and 'harmful facilities around school' for safer school environment. Second, it is significant to plan 'equipment facilities' and 'outdoor space in the school setting' with priority for elementary education environment. Third, environmental planning elements for safer elementary schools can be classified into 9 factors(types) including 'natural surveillance planning', 'territoriality reinforcement planning', 'mechanical surveillance planning', 'access control planning' and 'neighborhood reinforcement planning'. Forth, regarding 'indoor space', crime-free elementary school environment can be build through 'natural surveillance planning' and 'territoriality reinforcement planning'. Finally, regarding 'outdoor space', the crime can be prevented through 'natural surveillance planning' and 'access control planning'.

  • The spatial distribution of crime incidences in urban neighborhoods is a reflection of their socio-economic environment and spatial inter-relations. Spatial interactions between offenders and victims lead to spatial autocorrelation of the crime incidences. The spatial autocorrelation among the incidences biases the interpretation of the ecological model in OLS framework. This research investigates residential crimes using residential burglaries and robberies occurred in the city of Columbus, Ohio, for 2000. In particular, the spatial distribution of incidence rates of residential crimes are accounted in OLS framework using eigenvectors, which reflect spatial dependence in crime patterns. Result presents that handling spatial autocorrelation enhanced model estimation, and both economic deprivation and crime opportunity are turned out significant in estimating residential crime rates.
