  • A new practical modeling of the Norton's power law creep is proposed and implemented to analyze the high temperature behaviors of Alloy 690 SG tube material. In the model, both the stress exponent n and the rate constant B are simply treated as the temperature dependent parameters. Based on the two-step optimization procedure, the temperature function of the rate constant B(T) was determined for the data set of each B value after fixing the stress exponent n value by using the prior optimized function at each temperature. This procedure could significantly reduce the numerical errors when using the power law creep equations. Based on the better description of the steady-state creep rates, the experimental rupture times could also be well predicted by using the Monkman-Grant relationship. Furthermore, the difference in tensile strengths at high temperatures could be very well estimated by assuming the imaginary creep stress related to the given strain rate after correcting the temperature effects on the elastic modulus.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the short-term creep rupture time and the creep rupture properties at three different elevated temperatures in STS304 stainless steel. Uniaxial constant stress creep rupture tests were performed on the steel to observe the creep rupture behaviors at the elevated temperatures of 600, 650 and 700, according to the testing matrix. It is very important to predict creep life in practical creep design problems. As one of the series of studies on the statistical modelling of probabilistic creep rupture time and the development of creep life prediction techniques, the relationship between applied stress and creep rupture behaviors, such as creep strain rate and rupture time, were investigated. In addition, the Monkman-Grant relationship was observed between the steady-state creep rate and the creep rupture time. The creep rupture surfaces observed by SEM showed up dimple phenomenon at all conditions.

  • This study practiced to observe the creep behavior at specific temperature on Austentic SUB 27 stainless steel by Moire method. The results obtained from this study are summarized as follows; In tensile experiment, tensile strength and yielding strength decrease as the temperature increases. Yielding strength is equivalent to 60-70% of tensile strength. Reduction of Area and Elongation show minimum values at 300.deg. C. The results of Moire method using Moire heating resisting grid coincide with LVDT result. Therefor, It is proved that the Moire method has great merit in strain measurement of a creep behavior. In homologous at temp. 0.2 or less, creep behavior is very small amount. But, in more than 0.3, creep behavior is very active. Creep rate increase as temperature increase and creep rate is proportional to .alpha. values of experimental equation.

  • In this paper, the creep characteristics of lead and lead-free solder joint were investigated using the QFP(Quad Flat Package) creep test. Two kind of solder pastes(Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu, Sn-0.2Sb-0.4Ag-37.4Pb) were applied to the QFP solder joints and each specimen was checked the external and internal failures(i.e., wetting failure, void, pin hole, poor-heel fillet) by digital microscope and X-ray inspection. The creep test was conducted at the temperatures of $100^{\circ}C$ and $130^{\circ}C$ under the load of 15$\sim$20% of average pull strength in solder joints. The creep characteristics of each solder joints were compared using the creep strain-time curve and creep strain rate-stress curves. Through the comparison, the Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu solder joints have higher creep resistance than that of Sn-0.3Sb-0.4Ag-37.4Pb. Also, the grain boundary sliding in the fracture surface and the necking of solder joint were observed by FE-SEM.

  • Kachanov-Rabotnov(K-R) creep damage theory was reviewed, and applied to design a creep curve for type 316LN stainless steel. Seven coefficients used in the theory, i.e., A, B, k, m, λ, r, and q were determined, and their physical meanings were analyzed clearly. In order to quantify a damage parameter ($\omega$), cavity amount was measured in the crept specimen taken from interrupted creep test with time variation, and then the amount was reflected into K-R damage equations. Coefficient λ, which is regarded as a creep tolerance feature of a material, increased with creep strain. Mater curve with λ=2.8 was well coincided with an experimental one to the full lifetime. The relationship between damage parameter and life fraction was matched with the theory at exponent ${\gamma}$=24 value. It is concluded that K-R damage equation was reliable as the modelling equation for type 316LN stainless steel. Coefficient data obtained from type 316LN stainless steel can be utilized for life prediction of operating material.

  • Creep behavior of Ti had been studied in a stress from 9.8 to 29.4 MPa and temperature rang from 873K to 973K with a special reference to tertiary creep. It was found that stress exponent of Ti was larger than that of the general pure metal and the compound metal. The relationship between true strain and strain rate in tertiary creep was appeared as the equation, $ln{\dot{e}}$ = $ln{\dot{e}}_{0}$ + ${\Omega}$ e Also, Apparent activation energy of was appeared as 274.92kJ/mol by using the equation ${\dot{\varepsilon}}_{0}$ = A ${\sigma }_{0}^{\ast_0}$ exp$(-Q_{0}/RT)$

  • To investigate the change of internal stress and mobile dislocation density in the creep, stress relaxation test was examined from each strain range. Mobile dislocation density increased until it reached minimum creep rate but after that, it decreased. Internal stress did not change until it reached minimum creep rate but after that, it decreased. The stress relaxation rate is fast and approached zero later 1.5 seconds, which were begun in the stress relaxation. When the applied stress is large, the internal stress is large. It is cleared that dislocations glide viscously which N passes by cutting Cr atom rather than typical viscosity movement by the evaluation of mobility of dislocation in STS310J1TB.

  • By the purpose to investigate the change of internal stress and mobile dislocation density in creep, the stress relaxation test is carried out in the condition of each strain. Mobile dislocation density increased until it reached minimum creep rate and after that, it decreased and internal stress didn't have the change approximately until it reached minimum creep rate and after that, it decreased. The stress relaxation rate is fast and approached zero after 1.5 seconds after the beginning of the stress relaxation. And the larger the applied stress is, the larger the internal stress is. By the evaluation of mobility of dislocation, the dislocations glide viscously in STS31OJlTB but it is the dislocations glide viscously which N passes by cutting Cr atom rather than typical viscosity movement after calculating mobility of dislocation.

  • In this study, the theory of spherical indentation based on incremental plasticity is extended to an indentation method for evaluating creep properties. Through finite element analysis (FEA), the point where the elastic strain effect is negligible and the creep strain gradient constant is taken as the optimum point for obtaining the equivalent strain rate and stress. Based on FE results for spherical indentation with various values of creep exponent and creep coefficient, we derive by regression an equation to calculate creep properties using two normalized variables. Finally a program is generated to calculate creep exponent and creep coefficient. With this method, we obtain from the load-depth curve creep exponents with an average error of less than 1.5 % and creep coefficients with an average error of less than 1.0 %.

  • The creep deformation behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloy was examined in the temperature range from 573 to 673K (0.62 to 0.73 Tm) under various constant stresses covering low strain rate range from $4{\times}10^{-9}\;s^{-1}$ to $2{\times}10^{-2}\;s^{-1}$. At low stress level, the stress exponent for the steady-state creep rate was ~3 and the present results were in good agreement with the prediction of Takeuchi and Argon model. At high stress level, the stress exponent was ~5 and the present results were in good agreement with the prediction of Weertman model. The transition of deformation mechanism from solute drag creep to dislocation climb creep could be explained in terms of solute-atmospherebreakaway concept.
