  • Tool test was conducted to investigate the were process of only flank face TiN coated HSS tool in interrupted cutting for variuos cutting speeds and feed rates. Flank wear was caused by microchipping at the cutting edge. At high cutting speed, the which was formed as a result of diffusion and abrasion lowered cutting edge and influenced flank were. Flank wear due to chipping was little influenced by cutting speed.

  • 공구수명에 관한 신뢰성 높은 기준 절삭데이타의 수집은 기계가공시스템을 설계, 운영하는데 중요한 것이다. 이제까지 발표된 절삭공구의 마모측정용 센서로는 절삭저항, AE센사, 진동, 절삭온도 등이 있으며, 이 센서들은 공구마모 특히 플랭크 마모(flank wear) 와 간접적인 관계를 갖고서 별도의 사전 절삭실험에 의해 마모량과 신호 level의 상관관계 및 조정이 필요하기 때문에 본 연구팀에서는 직접적으로 공구마모 상태를 검출하고, 신뢰성이 높은 절삭공구의 마모정보를 얻기 위해 최근 그 응용범위가 확대되고 있는 영상처리기술을 응용한 공구마모 측정장치를 구성하였다.

  • Dynamic compaction is an efficient ground improvement technique for loose soils and waste landfill. The improvement is obtained by controlled high energy tamping and its effects vary with the soil properties and energy input. This study demonstrated the application of dynamic compaction method for the improvement of waste landfill in construction site. Various tests and measurements such as standard penetration test, bore hole loading test, crater settlement, ground settlement, pore water pressure were peformed during dynamic compaction field test. From the field test results, the efficiency of dynamic compaction method for the improvement of waste landfill was proved.

  • We present the numerical implementation, simulation, and validation of the high-velocity impact experiments that have been described in the companion article. In this part, numerical investigations and simulations performed to mimic the tests are presented. The experiments were analyzed by the explicit integration-based software ABAQUS for improved simulations. Targets were modeled with a damaged plasticity model for concrete. Computational results of residual velocity and crater dimensions yielded acceptable results.

  • Jeju Island is formed by lava flow streams with the Mt. Halla in the center. The Mt. Halla‘s crater or other parasitic volcano produced lava flows creating lava plateau in this area. There are one thousand volcano caves in the world, and 50% of them are located in the west coast of United States. There are 186 volcano caves in Italy, 100 in Mt. Fuji, Japan, and 70 in Jeju Island. Jeju Island‘s east-west axis four sides are world-renown volcano zones with basalt strata that feature low viscosity and fluidity.

  • This paper presents results from a study concerning the capability afforded by the RKPM (reproducing kernel particle method) meshfree analysis formulation to predict responses of concrete and UHPC components resulting from projectile impacts and blasts from nearby charges. In this paper, the basic features offered by the RKPM method are described, especially as they are implemented in the analysis code KC-FEMFRE, which was developed by Karagozian & Case (K&C).

2020 Taal Volcano Eruption (필리핀 따알 화산의 2020년 분화 해설)

  • An eruption of Taal Volcano in the Philippines began on January 12, 2020. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) subsequently issued an Alert Level 4, indicating that "a hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days." It was a phreatic eruption and phreatomagmatic eruption from the main crater that spewed ashes to Calabarzon, Metro Manila, some parts of Central Luzon, and Pangasinan in Ilocos Region, resulting in the suspension of classes, work schedules, and flights. By January 26, 2020, PHIVOLCS observed inconsistent, but decreasing volcanic activity in Taal, prompting the agency to downgrade its warning to Alert Level 3. After February 14, Alert status was set to Level 2 because of overall decreasing trend of volcanic activities, but it does not mean that the threat of an eruption has disappeared. In addition, the Alert Level can be raised to Alert Level 3 if there is a symptom of increasing unrest at any time.

Fracture Property of Concrete on Spherical and Flat Nose Shape Projectile Impact (반구형과 평탄형 선단 비상체의 충돌을 받는 콘크리트의 파괴특성)

  • In this study, projectiles with 2 kinds of nose shape: spherical and flat were impacted into normal concrete and fiber reinforced concrete panels. The fracture depth and form, crater diameter, tensile strain at rear face were evaluated. It was confirmed that smaller projectile nose areas resulted in deeper penetrations associated with concentrated impact forces and small front-face crater diameters in impact test. Conversely, larger projectile nose areas resulted in shallower penetrations and larger front-face fracture diameters. Similar front-face failure and strain distribution relationships based on the projectile nose shape were observed for normal and fiber-reinforced concrete although the rear-face tensile strain and scabbing were significantly reduced by the fiber reinforcement. In addition, a direct relationship was confirmed between the penetration depth based on the projectile nose shape and the tensile strain on the rear face. Thus the impact strain behavior is required to predict the scabbing behavior with penetration depth.

  • ZnO:Al 투명전도막을 유리기판위에 in-line RF-magnetron sputtering법으로 증착온도 및 증착압력에 따라 제조하고, 습식식각에 따른 박막의 표면형상 및 광학적 특성변화를 조사하였다. 초기박막은 육방정계(Hexanonal wurtzite)의 결정 구조와 (002)면의 c-축 우선배향성을 갖으며 가시광 영역에서 높은 광 투과도(T $\geq$ 80%)와 낮은 비저항($\rho\;=\;5.2{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$)의 특성을 나타내었다. 습식 식각 후 박막의 표면형상은 식각 전 박막의 결정성에 큰 의존성을 보이며 본 연구에서는 1 mTorr의 낮은 증착압력과 $350^{\circ}C$의 높은 증착온도에서 증착된 결정성이 우수한 막에서 높고 균일한 형태의 crater를 갖는 표면형상을 얻을 수 있었다. 균일한 crater를 형성하는 ZnO:Al 박막은 hill 형태의 표면형상을 갖는 상용 Asahi-U glass에 비하여 높은 Haze ($T_{diffused}/T_{total}$)값과 넓은 산란각을 나타내어 향상된 광 산란특성을 갖으며 이는 실리콘 박막 태양전지내로 입사된 광의 산란경로를 증가시켜 태양전지 성능을 크게 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Accuracy Improvement of Surveying & Mapping for Seabed Facilities (해저시설물 조사성과의 정확도 제고)

  • Recently, the seabed facility is gradually being increased based on the development of harbor and the coastal area. However, the comparison between the survey data with the chart still shows the significant differences leading to various disasters over sea accident. Therefore, in this study, the investigation on the seabed facility were performed in 5 areas through an accuracy analysis using an up-to-date surveying equipment(MBES, SSS and SBP). Based on the study more systematic management on the seabed facility, more accurate method on the surveying, and some considerations on the related policies are suggested. Through the study, we obtained more accurate measurement on depth and seabed piping forms in Jakdo and Pyong-tack, on sunken ship in a Mok-po, on seabed crater in Je-ju. In addition, it was possible to present the method for the construction of information infra and a connection with the seabed facility. The criteria on the equipment's specification, surveying method and procedures are set by the experiments and the investigation and surveying accuracy on the seabed facilities are also suggested.
