  • In this paper, three-dimensional finite element approach to determining the number of blows in hammer forging is presented. Energy efficiency which is a major factor affecting the number of blows in hammer forging is assumed to decrease linearly as die-material contact area increases. The approach is applied to predicting the number of blows in counterblow hammer forging of large crank shaft for medium sized ship engine.

Flow Direction Characteristics in the Vicinity of the Spark Plug in an S. I. Engine

  • The flame speed may be decomposed into the burning speed and the flame transport speed. The flame transport speed is affected considerably by the flow direction, variation rate of flow direction, and flow speed in the combustion chamber. Especially, the flow direction and the variation rate of flow direction at the spark plug location during the ignition period have an important effect on the ignition process and the early flame propagation process. We measured the flow direction component and the variation rate of flow direction with a hot wire probe at the spark plug location. It was shown that the representative flow direction of ignition period is the right-vertical direction of crank shaft and it was used to investigate the variation rate of flow direction.

  • This study predicts the modified structural eigenvector and eigenvalue due to the change in the mass and stiffness of 2-dimesional continuous system by iterative calculation of the sensitivity coefficient using the original dynamic characteristic. The method is applied to examples of a crank shaft by modifing the mass and stiffness. The predicted dynamics characteristics are in good agreement with these from the structural analysis using the modified mass and stiffness.   • To keep up with the regulation of OBD II(on board diagnostics II), many detection methods for engine misfire have been developed. Among them, the method of using the crankshaft speed fluctuation is the most noticeable in the point of view of lower cost and easier installation than any others. On the basis of the results obtained from the previous engine-dynamometer test, the integrating torque index (ITI) has been introduced. In this research, the instrumental and the interfacing systems to engine control unit(ECU) are developed for the vehicle test. Therefore, the vehicle and chassis-dynamometer test can be carried out in addition to the rough road test. From this test, the previousproposed method proved that it can be applied to the real vehicle.

  • This paper summarizes a design procedure of radiated noise from engine blocks of marine engines. This air-borne noise is one of the significant noise contributors including the aeroacoustic noise due to intake and exhaust and the re-radiation due to structure-borne noise. Excitation forces by engine operations are evaluated taking into account the power generation mechanism from the burning process to the subsequence motion of internal parts; piston, connecting rod, and crank shaft. The acoustic transfer vector method is incorporated to effectively simulate the radiated noise field under the various operation conditions. A contribution analysis for the various excitations to the radiated noise is conducted. It is found that the firing pressure is the main source of the radiated noise, and so the structure of the cylinder can be modified to significantly reduce the radiated noise from the engine block.

  • There are many difficulties in designing the engine structure properly due to the strong conflicts between NVH characteristics and the high performance, light weight and low product cost. Many feasible noise reduction techniques should be carefully incorporated to meet such stringent noise requirements. It is also required that the engine development be carried out by introducing concurrent engineering, in which the analysis and test database are usefully applied to the detail designs from the 1st stage. This paper reviews the significance of the noise characteristics of the structure elements in relation to the combustion pressure. The mechanisms of the crank shaft rumbling, which is the main source having the bad influence on the sound quality, are also explained. The influences of dynamic behavior of engine structure on its noise are investigated, followed by discussions on experimental results of the features necessary for the design of low noise engine concepts.

선박 추진축의 종 비틂 연성진동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Axial and Torsional Coupled Vibration of Marine propeller shafts)

  • The axial and torsional coupled vibration of marine propeller shafts can be mainly caused by actual shape of the crank shaft and hydrodynamic forces and moments due to propellers : the former leads to stiffness matrix coupling and the latter leads to inertia and damping matrix coupling. In the present paper the characteristics of the coupled vibration of marine propeller shafts due to hydrodynamic coupling is investigated in details. First, the modelling procedure of the system and analysis technique are also developed. To verify the present method the numerical calculations were also performed. Finally, the results were compared with existing data in the literature and it was found to be in good agreement.

  • In the past two stroke low speed diesel engine were widely used for marine propulsion. these engine have many merit for example, higher thermal efficiency and durability. however, shaft vibration problem was continuously rise up due to large power of two stroke low speed diesel engine. specially, the initial stage engine revolution counter & stress has acculated. For that reason, sometimes occurred crankshaft crack accident. In this study, regarding the initial stage engine, trying to analyze what is cause the crack phenomenon using by latest torsional vibration calculation program & measurement equipment.

  • 본 논문은 자동변속기를 탑재한 차량에서 에어콘(air condition)을 작동시키고, 공 회전시 기어의 변속을 "D"단에 두었을 때 실내에서 발생하는 이상음의 원인규명 및 해결 방 법에 관한 연구 결과를 논하고자 한다. 이 이상한 소음의 원인을 규명하기 위하여 실린더 내부의 연소압력, 메인 베어링캡(main bearing cap)의 진동, 엔진 마운팅 보스의 진동 및 차 량의 실내소음을 동시에 측정하여 분석하였으며 이 결과에 의하면 이상음의 원인은 크랭크 샤프트(crank shaft)의 굽힘진동이 파워플랜트(power plant)를 가진하여 진동을 증가시키고, 이 진동이 마운팅 보스를 통하여 차량의 차체에 전달되며, 차체의 진동에 의해서 발생하는 고체 전달음(structure-borne noise)이었다. 또한 이상음의 주기는 주파수 성분은 200-400Hz 이었다. 이 이상음은 크랭크 샤프트의 댐퍼 풀리의 질량을 저감하여 크랭크 샤프트의 동특 성을 개선함으로서 해결가능하고, 혹은 점화시기를 지연하여 연소 압력을 낮춤으로서 해결 가능하다.

  • During the last decade, engine makers have developed new types or increasing power rate engines to enlarge theirs marketing shear in two stroke, low-speed diesel engines. As the results, these engines have increased the additional stresses due to torsional vibration more than old model engines. The torsional vibration dampers are necessary in order to reduce heigher additional stresses of intermediate and crank shaft in these engine. In this paper, the optimum designing of Geislinger type torsional Damper has been carried out, based on the theoretical conception. The dynamic characteristics and performance fo dampers are estimated by the measuring results obtained with the monitoring system of dampers and additional stresses of propulsion shafts.
