The marginal integrity at the composite resin-tooth interface has been analyzed in real time through acoustic emission (AE) monitoring during the polymerization shrinkage of composite resin subjected to the light exposure. It was found that AE signals were generated by the polymerization shrinkage. Most AE hit events showed a blast type signal having the principal frequency band of 100-200kHz. Bad bonding states were indicated by many hit events in the initial curing period of 1 minute with high contraction rate. The quantity of hit events for the human molar dentin specimen was much less than that for the steel ring specimen but more than that for the PMMA ring specimen. The better the bonding state, the less the AE hit events. The AE characteristics were related with the tensile crack propagation occurring in the adhesive region between the composite resin and the ring substrate as well as the compressive behavior of the ring substrate, which could be used for a nondestructive characterization of the marginal disintegrative fracture of the dental restoration.
One of the primary factors limiting the application of composite-metal adhesively bonded joints in structural design is the lack of a good evaluation tool for the interfacial strength to predict the load bearing capacity of boned joints. In this paper composite-steel adhesion strength is evaluated in terms of stress intensity factor and fracture toughness of the interface corner. The load bearing capacity of double lap joints, fabricated by co-cured bonding of composite-steel adherends has been determined using fracture mechanical analysis. Bi-material interface comer stress singularity and its order are presented. Finally stress intensities and fracture toughness of the wedge shape bi-material interface corner are determined. Double lap joint failure locus and its mixed mode crack propagation criterion on $K_1-K_{11}$ plane have been developed by tension tests with different bond lengths.
New techniques, technologies, and materials should be used to design and build sports stadiums. Since this century, much progress has been made in covering the roofs of sports stadiums, and the possibility of accurate computer calculation has been provided for stadiums, so by choosing a new structure, we can double the beauty and resistance of these stadiums. A stadium has an excellent and valuable design when its structure, shell, building, materials, and joinery follow a high architectural idea at all levels and scales. This article examines the mechanical performance of polymer cement strength in the construction of football stadiums, along with their structural knowledge in the form of the best examples in the world. Portland cement is one of the most used materials for constructing football stadiums. However, its production requires spending a lot of money, wasting energy, and damaging the environment. Considering the disadvantages in the production and consumption of concrete in different environments, it is necessary to find alternative materials. It should be used with cheaper, simpler technology, abundant primary resources, energy saving, less environmental damage, and better chemical and physical properties in concrete. High-strength concrete technology is considered a new development in the construction industry of concrete structures. In hardened concrete, strength and durability are two main factors, and as the compressive strength of concrete increases, concrete becomes more brittle. As a result, its tensile strength does not increase in proportion to the increase in compressive strength and has less strain tolerance. For this reason, the need to use is evident from the fibers in high-strength concrete. Fibers are used in concrete to increase tensile strength, prevent crack propagation, and significantly increase softness. The increase with the change of these resistances depends on the strength of concrete without fibers, the shape of fibers, and the percentage of fibers. This cement is obtained from the wastes of chemical and petrochemical industries and the wastes from coal combustion, which have the properties mentioned as substitutes for Portland cement.

We investigated experimentally the static behavior of an orthotropic bridge deck which is made from glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) and polyurethane foam. The bridge deck consists of many unit cells with rectangular holes which are filled with the foam to improve its structural behavior in its weak axis. It is found that although the elastic modulus of the foam compared to that of the GFRP is about the order of, the structural behaviors in the weak axis such as nominal strength, stiffness, etc. are greatly improved. Owing to the low mass density of the foam used in this study, the bridge deck is still light enough with the improved structural properties. Webs of the cells filled with the foam did not significantly contribute to the strength development of the deck. However, the propagation of a crack initiated in a cell is caught by the webs and limited to the inside of that cell only, which makes the load-displacement behavior of the foam-filled GFRP deck less brittle.

This study dealt with the behavior of pile-abutment joints in integral abutment bridges. Two types of pile-abutment joints were proposed to strengthen its rigid action. One was fabricated with transverse rebars which penetrated the H-pile in the abutment. The other was composed of stud shear connectors on the flanges of the H-pile. Three half scaled pile-abutment joint specimens were fabricated and loading tests were performed to evaluate the behavior of proposed joints. The results showed that the initial stiffness in elastic region of all specimens was sufficient to be applied for the integral abutment bridges. However, the performances of the proposed joints were shown to be more effective in rigid action compared to the joints types suggested by the Integral Bridge Design Guideline. The results from stiffness, strength, rotation and crack propagation tests supported this matter.

This paper proposed a nonlocal anisotropic damage model to simulate the behavior of plain and reinforced concrete structures that are predominantly tensile and compressive load. This model based on continuum damage mechanics, used a symmetric second-order tensor as the damage variable. For quasi-brittle materials, such as concrete, the damage patterns were different in tension and in compression. These two damage states were modeled by damage evolution laws ensuring a damage tensor rate proportional to the total strain tensor in terms of principal components. To investigate the effectiveness of proposed model, the double edge notched specimen experimented by nooru-mohamed and reinforced concrete bending beam were analyzed using the implementation of the proposed model. As the results for the simulation, the nonlocal anisotropic damage model with an adequate control of rupture correctly represented the crack propagation for mixed mode fracture. In the structural failure of reinforced concrete bending beam, the proposed model can be showed up to a very high damage level and yielding of the reinforcements.
The point load test (PLT) is a widely-used alternative method in the field to determine the uniaxial compressive strength due to its simple testing machine and procedure. The point load test index can estimate the uniaxial compressive strength through conversion factors based on the rock types. However, the mechanism correlating these two parameters and the influence of the mechanical properties on PLT results are still not well understood. This study proposed a theoretical model to understand the mechanism of PLT serving as an alternative to the UCS test based on laboratory observation and literature survey. This model found that the point load test is a self-confined compression test. There is a compressive ellipsoid near the loading axis, whose dilation forms a tensile ring that provides confinement on this ellipsoid. The peak load of a point load test is linearly positive correlated to the tensile strength and negatively correlated to the Poisson ratio. The model was then verified using numerical and experimental approaches. In numerical verification, the PLT discs were simulated using flat-joint BPM of PFC3D to model the force distribution, crack propagation and BPM properties' effect with calibrated micro-parameters from laboratory UCS test and point load test of Berea sandstones. It further verified the mechanism experimentally by conducting a uniaxial compressive test, Brazilian test, and point load test on four different rocks. The findings from this study can explain the mechanism and improve the understanding of point load in determining uniaxial compressive strength.

Steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) exhibits enhanced strength and superior energy dissipation capacity compared to normal concrete, and it can also reduce crack propagation and fragmentation of concrete even when subjected to blast loads. In this study, the parameters defining failure surface and damage function of the K&C concrete nonlinear model were proposed to be applied for the properties of SFRC in LS-DYNA. Single element analysis has been conducted to validate the proposed parameters in the K&C model, which provided very close simulations on the compressive behavior of SFRC. In addition, blast analysis was performed on SFRC columns with different volume fractions of steel fibers, and the blast resistance of SFRC columns was quantitatively analyzed with Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency (KOSHA) guidelines.

For demolition of offshore facilities, traditional methods such as jackhammer and explosive methods have been often used in construction industry. However, prohibitions for use of those methods are becoming more rigorous especially in environmentally and historically sensitive areas. It was also reported that the explosive demolition method on maritime bedrock can cause a disturbance of ecosystem. For those reasons, use of soundless chemical demolition agent(SCDA) is getting the spotlight. However, researches regarding the mechanical point of SCDA have seldom performed. There is no industrial standard for use of SCDA yet. In this study, a pilot experimental study in order to measure the required expansive pressure that could be generated from SCDA was conducted. Numerical models were developed in order to estimate the required expansive pressures of SCDA for initiating cracks depending on selected key parameters. Obtained results indicate that the required pressure does not decrease linearly as increasing the hole diameter, the number of holes, and the ratio of hole-distance to hole-diameter.
