  • Stress intensity factor of semi-infinite parallel crack propagation with constant velocity in dissimilar orthotropic strip under out-of-plane clamped desplacement is investigated. Using Fourier integral transforms the boundary value problem is derived by a pair of dual integral equation and finally reduced to a single Wiener-Hopf equation. By applying Wiener-Hopf technique the equation is solved. Applying this result the asymptotic stress fields near the crack tip are determined, from which the stress intensity factor is obtained in closed form. The more the ratio of anisotropy or the ratio of bi-material shear modulus increase in the main material including the crack, the more the stress intensity factor increases. Discontinuity in the stress intensity factor is found as the parallel crack approaches the interface. In special case, the results of isotropic materials agree well with those by the previous researchers.

  • In this research, the dynamic photoelastic experimental hybrid method for bimaterial is introduced. Dynamic biaxial loading device is developed, its strain rate is 31.637 s-1 and its maximum impact load is 20 ton. Manufactured methods for model of the dynamic photoelastic experiment for bimaterial are suggested. They are bonding method(bonding material: AW106, PC-1) and molding method. In the bonding method, residual stress is not occurred in the manufactured bimaterial. Crack is propagated along the interface or sometimes deviated from the interface. While in the molding method, residual stress is occurred in the manufactured bimaterial. Crack is always deviated from the interface and propagated in the epoxy region(softer materila). In order to propagate with constant velocity along the interface of bimaterial with arbitrary stiffer material, edge crack should be located along the interface of the acute angle side of the softer material in the bimaterial.

선박용 스프링강의 피로수명에 미치는 쇼트피닝의 영향 (A Effect of Shot Peening for Fatigue Life of Spring Steel for Vessel Application)

  • The lightness of components required in automobile and machinery industries is requiring high strength of components. Therefore this requirement is accomplished as the process of shot-peening method that the compressive residual stress is made on the metal surface as one of various improvement methods. Special research is, therefore, needed about compressive residual stress on the metal surface in the process of shot-peening method. Therefore, in this paper the effect of compressive residual stress of spring steel(JISG SUP-9) by shot-peening on fatigue crack growth characteristics in environmental condition(temperature) and mechanical condition(shot velocity, stress ratio) was investigated with considering fracture mechanics. By using the methods mentioned above, the following conclusions have been drawn. (1) The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of the shot-peened material was lower than that of the un-peened one. In high temperature range. fatigue crack growth rate decreased with increasing temperature range, while fatigue crack growth rate increased by decreasing temperature in low temperature. (2) Fatigue life shows more improvement in the shot-peened material than in the un-peened material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the shot-peen processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation.

수성환경에서 암석 내의 임계하 균열성장 연구 (Subcritical crack growth in rocks in an aqueous environment)

  • 임계하 균열성장(subcritical crack growth)은 암석 내에서 오랜 시간 동안 일어나는 균열시스템 발달의 주된 원인으로 그 중요성이 매우 크다. 본 연구에서는 증류수(pH = 5-7)와 수산화나트륨(NaOHaq, pH = 12)용액으로 포화된 암석과 건조암석에서의 임계하 균열성장에 대해 고찰하였다. 아울러 공극유체의 수소이온농도(pH)의 영향도 함께 살펴보았으며, 안산암과 화강암이 연구에 사용되었다. 연구방법은 온도가 조절된 환경에서 이중-비틀림 실험(double-torsion test)을 실시하여 균열성장속도와 응력확장계수와의 상관관계를 파악하였다. 연구의 결과 수성환경에서 균열성장속도가 건조한 경우보다 크게 나타났으며, 이는 기존 연구에서 물이 첨가되었을 때 균열성장속도가 빨라지는 결과와 잘 일치한다. 증류수와 수산화나트륨 사이의 결과에서는 수소이온농도의 차이에도 불구하고 균열성장속도의 차이가 나타나지 않았으며 이는 수산화이온이 균열성장을 가속한다는 기존의 결과와는 차이를 보였다. 따라서 균열의 첨단부(crack-tip)에서의 수소이온농도의 차이는 균열의 성장에 영향을 미치지만, 공극유체의 전체적인 수소이온농도(bulk pH)의 영향은 매우 적다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다.

  • The development of new materials with light weight and high strength has become vital to the machinery, aircraft and auto industries. However, there are a lot of problems with developing such materials that require such expensive tools, as well as a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, the improvement of fatigue life through, the adoption of residual stress, is the main focus. The compressive residual stress was imposed on the surface according to each shot velocity(1800, 2200, 2600, 3000rpm) based on Shot-peening, which is the method of improving fatigue life and strength. By using the methose mentioned above, we arrived at the following conclusions; 1. The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of the Shot-peened material was lower than that of the Un-peened material. In stage I, $\Delta$K$_{th}$, the threshold stress intensity factor, of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts, unlike the Un-peened material. Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the Shot-peened material was higher than of the Un-peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN. 2. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peened material. Compressive residual stress of the surface on the Shot-peen processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation.

동적모드 I 상태에서 직교 이방성체의 이방성비가 등속전파 균열선단의 응력성분과 변위성분에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Anisotropic Property Ratio of Orthotropic Material on Stress Components and Displacement Components at Crack tip Propagating with Constant Velocity Under Dynamic Mode I)

  • When the crack in orthotropic material is propagating under dynamic model I load, influences of anisotropic property ratio $E_{L}$/ $E_{T}$ on stress and displacement around propagating crack tip are studied in this paper. When M<0.55 and .alpha.=90.deg.(.alpha.; the angle of fiber direction with crack propagating direction, M; crack propagation velocity/shear stress wave velocity), the influence of $E_{L}$/ $E_{T}$ on stress .sigma.$_{x}$, .sigma.$_{y}$, .tau.$_{xy}$ and .sigma.$_{\theta}$ is the greast on .sigma.$_{y}$. Except M<0.55 and .alpha.=90.deg., it is the greast on .sigma.$_{x}$ in any situation. Increasing $E_{L}$/ $E_{T}$, stress components are increased or decreased. When maximum stress is based, the stress .sigma.$_{x}$(.alpha.=90.deg.), .sigma.$_{y}$(.alpha.=0.deg.) and .tau.$_{xy}$ (.alpha.=90.deg.) are decreased with increment of $E_{L}$/ $E_{T}$ in M=0. any stresses except .sigma.$_{*}$x/(.alpha.=0.deg.) are decreased with increment of $E_{L}$/ $E_{T}$ in M=0.9. When .alpha.=90.deg., the influence of $E_{L}$/ $E_{T}$ on displacement U and V is V>U in any velocities of crack propagation, when .alpha.=0.deg., it is VU in M>0.75 and when $E_{L}$/ $E_{T}$ is increased, U and V are decreased in any conditions.sed in any conditions.tions.tions.tions.

  • This paper describes the dynamic fracture behavior of brittle materials under impact loading by using INSAMCR program with instrumented charpy test machine. To calculate the Dynamic Stress Intensity Factor The finite element analysis methods program, INSAMCR, was used. Dynamic fracture characteristic was researched to verify a relationship between Dynamic Stress Intensity Factor and crack tip propagation velocity in WC-6%Co. The relationship between Dynamic Stress Intensity Factor and crack tip velocity revealed typical .GAMMA. shape. INSAMCR was run to verify experimental results in WC-6%Co and shows a good coincidence.

  • Cracks of concrete structure must be analyzed and estimated synthetically in order to have a maintenance and to insure the safety and the durability of structure. Concrete cracks have to be surveyed with respect to depth, width, shape and direction etc, but crack depth among these items is not measured easily. Occasionally, it needs to measure the crack depth of concrete structure for the purpose of evaulating the safe capacity and the necessity of repair. Therefore, this research is performed to verify the applicability and the accuracy of Ultra-sonic Pulse Velocity Technique(Tester), in non-destructive testing methods of concrete crack depth.

복합적층판의 층간파괴에 미치는 충격하중속도의 효과 (Effects of Impact Loading Rate on the Delamination Behavior of Composite Laminates)

  • The delamination behavior of multidirectional carbon-fiber/epoxy composite laminates under 10NA intermediate and high rates of test, up to rate of about 11.4m s has been investigated using the double cantilever beam specimens. The mode I loading under rates above l.0m/s showed considerable dynamic effects on the load-time curves and thus higher values of the average crack velocity than that expected from a simple proportional relationship with the test rate. The modified beam analysis utilizing only the opening displacement and crack length exhibited an effective means for evaluating the dynamic fracture energy $G_{IC}$. Based on the assumption of constant flexural modulus, values of $G_{IC}$ at the crack initiation and arrest were decreased with an increase of the test rate up to 5.7m/s, but the maximum $G_{IC}$ was increased at 11.4m/s.

Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the Shot-peened material was higher than that of the Un-peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN. 2.
