가스압 소결된 질화규소의 R-Curve 거동 (R-Curve Behavior in a Gas-Pressure Sintered Silicon Nitride)

  • R-curves, fracture resistance (KR) as a function of crack extension (Δa), of a gas-pressure sintered monolithic Si3N4 were determined by controlled flaw/strength technique. Rising R-curve behavior was observed, confirming the operation of microstructural toughening process during crack growth. The R-curve parameters, k and m in the equation, KR=k(Δa)m, were determined to 30.301 and 0.1146, respectively. Microstructural observation of growing crack revealed that the bridging in the crack wake by unbroken ligament of large elongated ${\beta}$-grains was the mechanism primarily for the rising R-curve behavior.

Consideration of Methods Evaluating the Growing Process of Stress Corrosion Cracking of the Sensitized 18-8 Austenitic Stainless Steel in High Temperature Water Based on Electric Circuit Theory: The Effects of Stress Factors

  • The effect of stress factors on the growing process of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of the sensitized 18-8 stainless steel in high temperature water was investigated using equations of crack growth rate derived from applying electric circuits to SCC corrosion paths. Three kinds of cross sections have to be considered when electric circuit is constructed using total current. The first is ion flow passage area, $S_{sol}$, of solution in crack, the second is total dissolving surface area, $S_{dis}$, of metal on electrode of crack tip and the third is dissolving cross section, $S_{met}$, of metal on grain boundary or in base metal or in welding metal. Stress may affect each area. $S_{sol}$ may depend on applied stress, $\sigma_{\infty}$, related with crack depth. $S_{dis}$ is expressed using a factor of $\varepsilon(K)$ and may depend on stress intensity factor, K only. SCC crack growth rate is ordinarily estimated using a variable of K only as stress factor. However it may be expected that SCC crack growth rate depends on both applied stress $\sigma_{\infty}$ and K or both crack depth and K from this consideration.$\varepsilon(K)$ is expressed as ${\varepsilon}(K)=h_2{\cdot}K^2+h_3{\cdot}K^3$ when $h_{2}$ and $h_{3}$ are coefficients. Also, relationships between SCC crack growth rate, da/dt and K were simulated and compared with the literature data of JBWR-VIP-04, NRC NUREG-0313 Rev.2 and SKIFS Draft. It was pointed out in CT test that the difference of distance between a point of application of force and the end of starter notch (starting point of fatigue crack) may be important to estimate SCC crack growth rate. An anode dissolution current density was quantitatively evaluated using a derived equation.

  • 본 논문은 강형식 기반의 MLS 차분법에 Rayleigh 감쇠효과를 적용한 동적균열진전 해석기법을 제시한다. Rayleigh 감쇠 효과가 반영된 동적 평형방정식과 구성방정식을 도출하고, MLS 미분근사식을 이용하여 지배방정식들을 이산화하였다. 평형방정식뿐만 아니라 구성방정식에서도 감쇠효과를 적절하게 고려하여 기존의 무요소 강정식화 기법에서 고려하지 못했던 비례감쇠 알고리즘을 구현하였다. 시간관련 항을 포함한 동적 평형방정식은 중앙차분법(central difference method)을 이용하여 시간적분 하였고, 속도에 대한 차분식을 lagging시켜 이산화 방정식을 간소화시켰다. 균열의 기하학적 특성은 표면력 '0'인 자연경계 조건을 균열면에 놓인 절점들에 부과하여 묘사하였으며, 균열성장으로 인해 해석단계마다 변하는 절점의 생성 및 이동 효과를 계방정식 구성에 반영하였다. 단일균열과 다중균열을 갖는 수치예제를 통해서 제안된 수치기법의 정확성을 검증하였으며, 비례감쇠 효과의 고려가 동적균열진전 해석결과에 미치는 영향을 보였다.

  • 혼합모드 피로하중을 받는 균열을 갖은 CTS 시편에 대하여 균열경로 예측이론과 Tanaka 의 등가 응력확대계수식을 적용하여 피로균열진전거동을 평가하였다. 새롭게 생성되는 균열선단의 응력확대계수 산정은 ANSYS 를 이용한 유한요소법을 통해 이루어졌고, 균열경로와 균열증분은 마이크로소프트 엑셀에 프로그래밍한 균열경로예측식과 Paris 식으로 계산되었다. 균열증분으로 새롭게 생성된 균열선단의 기하학적인 정보는 엑셀의 기능을 이용해 ANSYS 의 KSCON 명령어가 인식할 수 있게 변화시켜 균열모델링을 용이하게 하였다. 반복적인 균열해석을 위해 유한요소법과 엑셀을 결합한 FECTUM(Finite Element Crack Tip Updating Method)을 개발하였다. 개발된 FECTUM 을 편측 3 점 굽힘을 통해 혼합모드의 구현이 가능한 SENB 시편(Single Edge Notched Bend Specimen)에 적용해본 결과, 균열경로는 물론 파단될 때까지의 피로하중 반복수의 차이가 3% 미만으로 잘 일치하는 모습을 보여, 개발된 기법의 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • Nowadays, many components used in machinery industry is required lightness and high strength. Therefore, the effects of compressive residual stress by shot-peening which is method to improve fatigue lift of spring steel (JISG SUP-9), which used in suspension of automobile, on fatigue crack growth characteristics was investigated with considering fracture mechanics. So, we can obtain followings 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the size of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, fatigue life does not improve than when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.

The shot-peening method is used in order to improve the fatigue life of spring steel(JIS G SUP-9) which is used in suspension of automobile. The compressive residual is induced in this shot-peening process. This paper investigated the effect of the residual compressive stress on the fatigue crack growth characteristics. Main results are summarized as follows. 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the level of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, it does not improve the fatigue life comparing when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.

인공해수중에서 연강 용접부의 표면구열 성장거동 (Study on Surface Crack Propagation Behaviour of Mild Steel Weldment in Synthetic Sea Water)

  • It was known that the fracture incidences of offshore structure were mostly originated from the surface defects. Especially, in the case of the welded structures, since the welded region has some defects and incomplete beads which are apt to behave like the surface cracks, it has been necessary to evaluate the environmental effects on crack growth at HAZ for the design crack growth behaviour at multi-pall HAZ for SWS41 steel under free corrosion and cathodic protection(-0.9V vs Ag/Agcl) conditions. The results are summarized as follows ; (1) Crack growth rate of the as weld in air was faster than that of the parent and PWHT specimens over all .DELTA.K rang. (2) In free corrosion test, surface crack growth rate of the as welded was decreased in comparison with that of the parents. (3) In fatigue test under cathodic protection, cathodic electric potential(-0.9V vs Ag/Agcl) for the SWS41 steel parent was effective, while for the as welded ineffective. (4) There was a tendency that the exponent(m) of the Paris' equation was decreased in order of microhardness magnititude in air and under cathodic protection conditions and vise versa in free corrosion. (5) Fracture surface has dimples and ductile striations in air test, but transgranular cracks and brittle striations under cathodic protection test.

강용접부의 표면균열 성장거동에 관한 연구 1

  • Generally, as the welded region of weld structures has the incomplete bead and welded deposit which are able to behave like the surface cracks occasinally, there is a high possibility that the fatigue fracture of the weld structures is due to the surface cracks on the wlded region. This study was done to investigate the effects of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) on the fatigue behaviors of the surface crack of the heat affected zone (HAZ) for the multi-pass welds under the repetitive pure bending moment. The obtained results are summarized as follows : 1. The crack grows to the depth direction initially as the number of cylces increase, the amount of crack length is increased for the surface dir3ction and cive versa for the depth direction. 2. The fatigue life is increased in a order of as weld, PWHT specimens and parent. 3. As the number of cycles increase, the crack length is increased to th surface direction. The increase of the depth length is blunted at the center of specimen thickness. 4. The fatigue crack growth of PWHT specimens to the surface direction is dependent upon the holding time and applied stress during PWHT. In order words, the crack growth rate decreases with the holding time and increases with the applied stress during PWHT. 5. As the crack grows, the aspect formed in the course of crack propagation approaches to semicircle for parent and ellipse with the largest semidiameter for PWHT ($1/4hr, 15kgf/mm^2$) 6. At depth direction, it is difficult to apply to the paris' equation because of the scattered data between the crack growth rate and the stress intensity factor range.

선체 용접부의 균열진전 및 피로수명 예측에 관한 연구(I) (A Study of Crack Propagation and Fatigue Life Prediction on Welded Joints of Ship Structure(I))

  • The fatigue life of ship structure under cyclic loading condition is made up of initiation and propagation stages. In this study, crack growth test is carried out on large scale structure test specimens and fracture mechanical analysis is performed. The fatigue lives measured from fatigue tests are compared with DNV, Matsuoka and BS 5400 S-N curve. And to predict the crack initiation life, S-N curve, corresponding to crack length 20mm at welded joint, is developed based on hot spot stress range. Also crack propagation life is calculated using crack growth equation. Consequently, computed crack propagation life is compared with experiment results.

  • Rencentely, the request for the light weight is more incresed in the area of industrial environment and machinery and consistent effort is needed to accomplish high strength of material for the direction of light weight. we got the following characteristic from crack growth test carried out in the range of stress ration of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.6 by means of opening mode displacement. At the content stress ratio, the threshold stress intensity factor crack range ${\Delta}K_{th}$in the early stage of fatigue crack growth (Region I) and dtress intensity factor range ${\Delta}K$ in the stable of fatigue crack growth (Region II) with an increase in ${\Delta}K$. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peening material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot peening processed operate resistance force of fatigue. So we can obtain fallowings. (1) The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the size of compressive residual stress and is depend on Paris equation. (2) Although the maxium compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, fatigue life does not improve than when maxium compressive residual stress is formed in surface. (3) The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress.
