Fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) coated NiCrAl alloy foam is fabricated using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition (USPD). To confirm the influence of the FTO layer on the NiCrAl alloy foam, we investigated the structural, chemical, and morphological properties and chemical resistance by using USPD to adjust the FTO coating time (12, 18, and 24 min). As a result, when an FTO layer was coated for 24 min on NiCrAl alloy foam, it was found to have an enhanced chemical resistance compared to those of the other samples. This improvement in the chemical resistance of using USPD NiAlCr alloy foam can be the result of the existence of an FTO layer, which can act as a protection layer between the NiAlCr alloy foam and the electrolyte and also the result of the increased thickness of the FTO layer, which enhances the diffusion length of the metal ion.
Nb-doped $TiO_2$(NTO) coated NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrogen production is prepared using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition(USPD) method. To optimize the size and distribution of NTO particles based on good physical and chemical stability, we synthesize particles by adjusting the weight ratio of the Nb precursor solution(5 wt%, 10 wt% and 15 wt%). The morphological, chemical bonding, and structural properties of the NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam are investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy(XPS), and Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM). As a result, the samples of controlled Nb weight ratio exhibit a common diffraction pattern at ${\sim}25.3^{\circ}$, corresponding to the(101) plane, and have chemical bonding(O-Nb=O) at 534 eV. The NTO particles with the optimum weight ratio of N (10 wt%) show a uniform distribution with a size of ~18.2-21.0 nm. In addition, they exhibit the highest corrosion resistance even in the electrochemical stability estimation. As a result, the introduction of NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam by USPD improves the chemical stability of the NiCrAl alloy foam by protecting the direct electrochemical reaction between the foam and the electrolyte. Thus, the optimized NTO coating can be proposed for excellent protection of NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrocarbon-based steam methane reforming(SMR).
The effects of Mn and Cr on the crystallization behaviors of Fe-bearing intennetallics in A356 alloy were studied. Coarse and acicular ${\beta}-Al_{5}$FeSi phase in A356-0.20wt.%Fe alloy was modified into small ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Mn)Si and ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Cr)Si phases in response to Mn and Cr addition, respectively. Increasing of Mn addition amount elevates the crystallizing temperature of ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Mn)Si and the Mn/Fe ratio in the ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Mn)Si. Cr is more effective to modify ${\beta}-Al_{5}$FeSi in comparison with Mn. ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Mn)Si phase had BCC/SC dual structure.

Effects of plasma-nitriding on the pitting corrosion of Fe-30at%Al-5at%Cr alloy containing Ti, Hf, and Zr were investigated using potentiostat in 0.1M HCl. The specimen was casted by the vacuum arc melting. The subsequent homogenization was carried out in Ar gas atmosphere at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 7days and phase stabilizing heat treatment was carried out in Ar gas atmosphere at $500^{\circ}C$ for 5 days. The specimen was nitrided in the $N_2$, and $H_2$, (1:1) mixed gas of $10^{-4}$ torr at $480^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs. After the corrosion tests, the surface of the tested specimens were observed by the optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). For Fe-30at%Al-5Cr alloy, the addition of Hf has equi-axied structure and addition of Zr showed dendritic structure. For Fe-30at%Al-5Cr alloy containing Ti, plasma nitriding proved beneficial to decrease the pitting corrosion attack by increasing pitting potential due to formation of TiN film. Addition of Hf and Zr resulted in a higher activation current density and also a lower pitting potential. These results indicated the role of dendritic structure in decreasing the pitting corrosion resistance of Fe-30Al-5Cr alloy. Ti addition to Fe-30Al-5Cr decreased the number and size of pits. In the case of Zr and Hf addition, the pits nucleated remarkably at dendritic branches.

In this study, the coating of an Al-Cr layer on the surface of a Zircaloy-4 alloy was carried out through plasma pretreatment coating and a laser surface melting process. Two different conditions for laser treatment, severe or minimal surface melting of the Zr alloy substrate, were applied to form the final coating. When there was significant surface melting of the Zr alloy, the solidification microstructure of the newly formed coating layer was mainly composed of needle-shaped $Al_3Zr$, Al(Cr) and $Al_7Cr$ phases. On the other hand, the solidification microstructure of the coating layer was mainly composed of Al(Cr) and $Al_7Cr$ phases when there was minimal surface melting of Zr base in the laser process. However, when the coating was maintained at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, significant inter-diffusion occurred between the phases in the coating. As a result, the upper part of the coating layer was observed to mainly consist of $Al_3Zr$ and $Al_8Cr_5$ phases, regardless of the laser treatment conditions.
The effect of alloying elements of Ag-Cu-Zr-X brazing alloy on the microstructure and the bond strength of $Al_2O_3/Ni-Cr$ brazed steel joint was investigated. The reaction layer, $ZrO_2$ (a=5.146 ${\AA}$ , b=5.213 ${\AA}$ , c=5.311 ${\AA}$ )was formed at the interface of $Al_2O_3/Ni-Cr$ steel joint by the redox reaction between alumina and Zr. The addition of An and Al to the Ag-Cu-Zr brazing alloy gave rise to changes in the thickness of the reaction product layer and the morphology of the brazement. Sn caused the segregation of Zr was decreased b Al the $ZrO_2$ layer formed at the Ag-Cu-Zr-Al alloy was thinner than that of $ZrO_2$ formed at the Ag-Cu-Zr-An alloy. The fracture shear strength was strongly dependent on the microstructure of the brazement. Brazing with Ag-Cu-Zr-Sn alloy resulted in a better bond strength than with Ag-Cu-Zr or Ag-Cu-Zr-Al alloy.

Recently, heat-resistant aluminum alloy has been re-focused as a downsizing materials for the internal combustion engines. Heat-resistant Al alloy development and many researches are still ongoing for the purpose of improving thermal stability, high-temperature mechanical strength and fatigue properties. The conventional principle of heat-resistant Al alloy is the precipitation of intermetallic compounds by adding a variety of elements is generally used to improve the mechanical properties of Al alloys. Heat resistant aluminum alloys have been produced by CrW homogeneous solid solution to overcome the limit of conventional heat resistant aluminum alloy. From EPMA, it is found that CrW homogeneous soild solution phases with the size of $50-100{\mu}m$ have been dispersed uniformly, and there is no reaction between aluminum and CrW alloy. In addition, after maintaining at high temperature of 573 K, there is no growth of hardening phase, nor desolved, but CrW still exists as a homogeneous solid solution.

In the present study, microstructural evolution in CuCrFeNi, CuCrFeNiMn, and CuCrFeNiMnAl alloys has been investigated. The as-cast CuCrFeNi alloy consists of a single fcc phase with the lattice parameter of 0.358 nm, while the as-cast CuCrFeNiMn alloy consists of (bcc+fcc1+fcc2) phases with lattice parameters of 0.287 nm, 0.366 nm, and 0.361 nm. The heat treatment of the cast CuCrFeNiMn alloy results in the different type of microstructure depending on the heat treatment temperature. At $900^{\circ}C$ a new thermodynamically stable phase appears instead of the bcc solid solution phase, while at $1,000^{\circ}C$, the heat treated microstructure is almost same as that in the as-cast state. The addition of Al in CuCrFeNiMn alloy changes the constituent phases from (fcc1+fcc2+bcc) to (bcc1+bcc2).
Brazing of Fe-Cr-Al alloy was carried out at $1200^{\circ}C$ in vacuum furnace using nickel-based filler metals : BNi-5 powder(Ni-Cr-Si-Fe base alloy} and MBF-50 foil (Ni-Cr-Si-B). The effect of boron content on the stability of oxide scale on the brazed joint was investigated by means of cyclic oxidation test performed at $1050^{\circ}C$ and $1200^{\circ}C$. Apparently, the joints brazed with MBF-50 containing boron showed relatively stable oxidation rates compared to boron-free BNi-5 at both temperatures. However, it was considered that the slower weight loss of MBF-50 brazed specimen wasn’t resulted from the low oxidation rate but from the spallation of oxide layer. The oxide layer consisted of thick spinel oxide on the surface and $Al_2 O_3$ internal oxide layer along the interface between mother alloy and braze, the mother alloy was also eroded seriously by the formation of spinel oxides such as $FeCr_2 O_4$ and $NiCr_2 O_4$ on the surface, likely to be induced by the change of oxide forming mechanism due to diffusion of boron from the braze. On the contrary, the joint brazed with BNi-5 showed the good oxidation resistance during the cyclic oxidation test. It seems that the oxidation can be retarded by the formation of stable $Al_2 O_3$ layer at the surface.

CrN film coated by AIP method, improved the mechanical properties (Hardness, Roughness, wear and fatigue) of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The properties were studied using GXRD, XPS, Hardness, Roughness, wear and fatigue testers. CrN thin film thickness was about 7.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ and grew with (111) orientation. Hardness of CrN thin film was very high (Hv 1390) and roughness of the surface layer was greatly improved (Ra=0.063$\mu\textrm{m}$) compared with matrix alloy (Ra=0.321$\mu\textrm{m}$). Such changes of hardness and roughness could be contributed to improving the wear resistance and fatigue life. Striation like pattern with dimples and voids, a typical fatigue fracture mode, was observed throughout the specimen.
