Tropical forests constitute almost half of the global forest cover, account for 35% of the global net primary productivity and thereby have potential to contribute substantially to sequester atmospheric $CO_2$ and offset climate change impact. However, deforestation and degradation lead by unsustainable management of tropical forests contribute to the unprecedented species losses and limit ecosystem services including carbon sequestration. Sustainable forest management (SFM) in the tropics may tackle and rectify such deleterious impacts of anthropogenic disturbances and climatic changes. However, the existing dilemma on the definition of SFM and lack of understanding of how tropical forest sustainability can be achieved lead to increasing debate on whether climate change mitigation initiatives would be successful. We reviewed the available literature with a view to clarify the concept of sustainability and provide with a framework towards the sustainability of tropical forests for enhanced carbon stock and climate change mitigation. We argue that along with securing forest tenure and thereby reducing deforestation, application of reduced impact logging (RIL) and appropriate silvicultural system can enhance tropical forest carbon stock and help mitigate climate change.
From the PSA point of view, the Fukushima accident of Japan in 2011 reveals some issues to be re-considered and/or improved in the PSA such as the limited scope of the PSA, site risk, etc. KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) has performed researches on the development of an integrated risk assessment framework related to some issues arisen after the Fukushima accident. This framework can cover the internal PSA model and external PSA models (fire, flooding, and seismic PSA models) in the full power and the low power-shutdown modes. This framework also integrates level 1, 2 and 3 PSA to quantify the risk of nuclear facilities more efficiently and consistently. We expect that this framework will be helpful to resolve the issue regarding the limited scope of PSA and to reduce some inconsistencies that might exist between (1) the internal and external PSA, and (2) full power mode PSA and low power-shutdown PSA models. In addition, KAERI is starting researches related to the extreme external events, the risk assessment of spent fuel pool, and the site risk. These emerging issues will be incorporated into the integrated risk assessment framework. In this paper the integrated risk assessment framework and the research activities on the emerging issues are outlined.

SVM (Support vector machine) analysis was performed after applying a deep learning technique based on an Inception-based model (GoogLeNet). The accuracy of automatic image classification was analyzed using an SVM with multiple virtual grid sizes. Six classes were selected from a standard land cover map. Cars were added as a separate item to increase the classification accuracy of roads. The virtual grid size was 2-5 m for natural areas, 5-10 m for traffic areas, and 10-15 m for building areas, based on the size of items and the resolution of input images. The results demonstrate that automatic classification accuracy can be increased by adopting an integrated approach that utilizes weighted virtual grid sizes for different classes.

In the 20th Century, the genera1 hospitals in Korea had changed in Qualitative and Quantitative aspects, The former would include such as the development of medical skills, equipments, and network system, The expansion of hospital space, increased numbers of hospitals and greater demands of medical attention from the public would be included in the latter, These various changes have been related to external forces such as the growth of the population, the changes in medical policy, the growth of G.N.P, the continuing discovery of new illnesses, the changes in architecture policy, and et cetera. Particularly, the hospitals built in 1970's and 80's have been expanded and renovated to cover the shortage of space, aged facilities, and the changes in hospital atmosphere. Thus, we hope that this study would provide appropriate data for master plans for new medical facilities as well as expansion and renovation data for old ones.

Traditional clustering methods are usually based on the bag-of-words (BOW) model. A disadvantage of the BOW model is that it ignores the semantic relationship among terms in the data set. To resolve this problem, ontology or matrix factorization approaches are usually used. However, a major problem of the ontology approach is that it is usually difficult to find a comprehensive ontology that can cover all the concepts mentioned in a collection. This paper proposes a new document clustering method using semantic features and fuzzy relations for solving the problems of ontology and matrix factorization approaches. The proposed method can improve the quality of document clustering because the clustered documents use fuzzy relation values between semantic features and terms to distinguish clearly among dissimilar documents in clusters. The selected cluster label terms can represent the inherent structure of a document set better by using semantic features based on non-negative matrix factorization, which is used in document clustering. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performance than other document clustering methods.
The study utilizes remote sensing as the main monitoring means. With different spatial high-resolution, multichannel ASTER remote sensing image as the main information in Beijing city zone; with regional border and statistical data as auxiliary factor a study between the thermal space distribution character and the underground medium is analyzed based on the GIS logical algorithm and synthetic analysis technology. Results show thermal forming mechanism and the rule of distribution is mainly related to the underground medium and the change of the city distribution. Different underground medium has different degree and intensity influence on the thermal space distribution. Furthermore, urban greenbelt and water areas can reduce the thermal effect and large-scale greenbelt creates green island effect. In addition, Road net, residential area, population density, heat resources and so on have some positive effect on the thermal distribution, which increase the local temperature and intensity on the other hand. It is important to study the thermal distribution and its related factors, which contributes to the plan, construction and development of the city.
The Fukushima Dai-Ichi accident in 2011 has affected various aspects of the nuclear society worldwide. The accident revealed some problems in the conventional approaches used to ensure the safety of nuclear installations. To prevent such disastrous accidents in the future, we have to learn from them and improve the conventional approaches in a more systematic manner. In this paper, we will cover three issues. The first is to identify the key issues that affected the progress of the Fukushima Dai-Ichi accident greatly. We examine the accident from a defense-in-depth point of view to identify such issues. The second is to develop a more systematic approach to enhance the safety of nuclear installations. We reexamine nuclear safety from a risk point of view. We use the concepts of residual and unknown risks in classifying the risk space. All possible accident scenarios types are reviewed to clarify the characteristics of the identified issues. An approach is proposed to improve our conventional approaches used to ensure nuclear safety including the design of safety features and the safety assessments from a risk point of view. Finally, we address some issues to be improved in the conventional risk assessment and management framework and/or practices to enhance nuclear safety.
The Jordan Research and Training Reactor (JRTR) is the first research reactor in Jordan, the commissioning of which is ongoing. The reactor is a 5-MWth, open-pool type, light-water-moderated, and cooled reactor with a heavy water reflector system. The neutron measurement system (NMS) applied to the JRTR employs a wide-range fission chamber that can cover from source range to power range. A high-sensitivity boron trifluoride counter was added to obtain more accurate measurements of the neutron signals and to calibrate the log power signals; the NMS has a major role in the entire commissioning stage. However, few case studies exist concerning the application of the NMS to a research reactor. This study introduces the features of the NMS and the boron trifluoride counter in the JRTR and shares valuable experiences from lessons learned from the system installation to its early commissioning. In particular, the background noise relative to the signal-to-noise ratio and the NMS signal interlock are elaborated. The results of the count rates with the neutron source and the effects of the discriminator threshold are summarized.
An approach for collapse risk assessment is proposed to evaluate the vulnerability of electric cabinet in nuclear power plants. The lognormal approaches, namely maximum likelihood estimation and linear regression, are introduced to establish the fragility curves. These two fragility analyses are applied for the numerical models of cabinets considering various boundary conditions, which are expressed by representing restrained and anchored models at the base. The models have been built and verified using the system identification (SI) technique. The fundamental frequency of the electric cabinet is sensitive because of many attached devices. To bypass this complex problem, the average spectral acceleration $S_{\bar{a}}$ in the range of period that cover the first mode period is chosen as an intensity measure on the fragility function. The nonlinear time history analyses for cabinet are conducted using a suite of 40 ground motions. The obtained curves with different approaches are compared, and the variability of risk assessment is evaluated for restrained and anchored models. The fragility curves obtained for anchored model are found to be closer each other, compared to the fragility curves for restrained model. It is also found that the support boundary conditions played a significant role in acceleration response of cabinet.
The AP1000 reactor coolant pump is a vertical shielded-mixed flow pump, is the most important coolant power supply and energy exchange equipment in nuclear reactor primary circuit system, whose steadystate and transient performance affect the safety of the whole nuclear island. Moreover, safety demonstration of reactor coolant pump is the most important step to judge whether it can be practiced, among which software simulation is the first step of theoretical verification. This paper mainly introduces the fluid-solid coupling simulation method applied to reactor coolant pump, studying the feasibility of simulation results based on workbench fluid-solid coupling technology. The study found that: for the unsteady calculations of the pure liquid media, the average head of the reactor coolant pump with bidirectional fluid-solid coupling decreases to a certain extent. And the coupling result is closer to the real experimental value. The large stress and deformation of rotor under different flow conditions are mainly distributed on impeller and idler, and the stress concentration mainly occurs at the junction of front cover plate and blade outlet. Among the factors that affect the dynamic stress change of rotor, the pressure load takes a dominant position.
