Galvanic coupling between GECM(graphite epoxy composite material) and metallic materials can facilitate corrosion of metals and alloys because GECM is noble and electrically conductive. Galvanic corrosion is affected by many factors including metallic materials, area ratio, surface condition, and corrosivity. This work aims to evaluate the effect of area ratio on galvanic corrosion between GECM and several metals. In the case of glavanic coupling of carbon steel and Al to GECM, corrosion rate increased with increasing area ratio. Corrosion rate of sensitized STS 316S stainless steel decreased a little at an area ratio 1:1 but increased at an area ratio 30:1. It is considered to be due to that area ratio affects galvanic corrosion more in less corrosion resistant alloys. However, in case of STS 316 and Ti, galvanic coupling reduces corrosion rate by the formation of passive film.
The piezoelectric materials convert from mechanical energy to electrical energy. The piezoelectric materials are used in various engineering applications such as piezoelectric ultrasonic actuators. Since the piezoelectric coupling characteristics of the actuator systems should be considered at the initial design stage, it is essential to analyze the piezoelectric coupling characteristics of the ultrasonic actuators. In this study, we analyzed the electromechanical characteristics of piezoelectric stacked actuator using the equivalent circuit model with modal mass stiffness parameters. It was compared the admittance of piezoelectric stack actuators with the analytical circuit model and the finite element model. Also, the coupling coefficient of piezoelectric stack actuator was discussed according to the number of stacks of actuators.
The rotor drive system in rotor-craft carries out power transmission from powerplant to rotors and the drive shafts are fallen into misaligned condition by the vibration of engine and shafts and the deformation of supporting structures. The high performance flexible coupling accommodates these misalignments of drive shafts. In this study, we compare the performance of the metalic flexible coupling with the composite flexible coupling through analytic method to develop the high performance flexible coupling used in the rotor drive system of UAV tilt-rotor.
The electrostatic layer-by-layer technique provides a convenient way to control the construction of ultrathin films at nano-scale ranges and can be easily obtained. It can be also applicable to fiber substrate with dye compounds. We have fabricated multilayer dye films using diazonium resin and three couplers, which are prepared by self-assembly approach. This method is based on layer-by-layer deposition using electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions. Beside, the diazo coupling reaction proceeded to form azo dye layer on the PET fibers the same time. The corresponding results of the multilayer films have been discussed on the level of color strength (K/S).
Surface-modified silica holds considerable promise in the development of advanced materials for good mechanical properties and stability. In this work, the surface and mechanical interfacial properties of silicas treated with silane coupling agents, such as Y-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane (MPS). Y-glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane (GPS), and Y-mercapto propyl trimethoxy silane (MCPS), are investigated. The effect of silane surface treatments of silica on the surface properties and surface energetics are studied in terms of surface functional values and contact angle measurements. And their mechanical interfacial properties of the silica/rubber composites are studied by the composite tearing energy ($G_{IIIC}$). As a result. the mechanical interfacial properties are improved in the case of silane-treated composites compared with untreated one. It reveals that the functional groups on silica surface by silane surface treatments play an important role in improving the degree of adhesion at interfaces in a silica-filled rubber system.
In order to increase the coupling strength between bisphenol-A type epoxy resin and filler SiO$_{2}$ it was treated to filler with silane coupling agent[KBM-603]. To observe how silane coupling agent effects on dielectric breakdown strength of Epoxy/SiO$_{2}$ compound material, specimens of eight type were made like following. (A-1, A-2), (B-1, B-2), (C-1, C-2), (D-1, D-2) (see 2-2. Specimen) Specimen treated with silane coupling agent had always bigger dielectric breakdown strength than non-treated specimen. Under the influence of silane coupling agent, increment ratio of dielectric breakdown strength at specimen manufactured by hand drill was very bigger than that of specimen inserted spherical electrode. Therefore, as the specimen shape was varied, it was studied on effect that silane coupling agent affects on dielectric breakdown strength of Epoxy/SiO$_{2}$ compound material.
Optimum conditions of fabrication and the effects of silane coupling agent on Glass-cloth/unsaturated Polyester composite materials were investigated. Dielectric strength and mechanical tensile strength were significantly improved in the sample with epoxy silane treatment, compared with the case without epoxy silane treatment. Treatment rate of interface coupling agent in composite materials were increased with increases of glass-fiber layers and content of glass fiber.
Neopentyl arenesulfonates reacted with primary alkylmagnesium halides in the presence of $(PPh_3)_2NiCl_2$ to produce the corresponding alkylarenes. The efficiency of this coupling reaction considerably depends on the nature of catalyst and solvent. Highest yield was obtained by using three equivalents of Grignard reagent to a mixture of $(PPh_3)_2NiCl_2$ and arenesulfonate in refluxing $Et_2O$. This reaction represents a novel method allowing the efficient and creative substitution of sulfur-containing groups in aromatic compounds. It also shows that the alkyloxysulfonyl group might be a suitable alternative to halides and triflate in some circumstances.
