금궤요략.폐위폐옹해수상기병맥증치제칠에 대한 연구 (Study on the 'Diagnosis and Treatment of the Atrophy of lung.pulmonary abscess.Lung-distension' in Synopsis of Golden Chamber)

  • The Atrophy of lung among chronic asthenia disease is a kind of tuberculosis. It is divided in two types. One is the Atrophy of lung with consumptive fever, the other is the Atrophy of lung with consumptive cold. Four prescriptions can be used treat this disease. Pulmonary abscess(肺癰) is infected by poisonous fatcors of wind and heat. It's symptoms like coughing, chest pain, fever and phlegm with pus after coughing are appeared generally, in case of serious condition, pyemia after coughing can be appeared. This disease is applicable to lung abscess, bronchiectasis, lung gangrene. Six prescriptions can be used to treat this disease. Coughing and congestion of the head(咳嗽上氣) is called Lung-distension(肺腸). Its symptom is dyspnea caused by more expiration rather than inspiration. This disease is divided into two types like chronic asthenia type and inflammatory type. Seven prescriptions can be used to treat this disease.

  • Objective : Allergic rhinitis is an allergic reaction characterized by sneezing, coughing, itchy nose, mouth and throat, congestion and/or nasal discharge. We aim to observe effect of Sinichengpae-um on protective effects of nasal mucosal tissue in th allergic rhinitis. Method : For this purpose, we oberserved number of leukocyte and erythrocyte in blood, ratio of neutrophil and lymphocyte in leukocyte, activity of GOT and GPT, and histopathologic change of nasal mucose. Result and Conclusion : Sinicheogpae-um showed effects on immune reaction with no harms liver. And in histopathologic change of nasal mucosal tissue, Sinichengpae-um showed significant protective effet against allergic rhinitis.

보중익기탕이 알레르기 비염 유발 白鼠의 과립구 및 조직학적 변화에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Bojungikgi-tang on the Nasal Tissue in Allergic Rhinitis of Ovalbumin0inhalation Rats.)

  • Allergic rhinitis is an allergic reaction characterized by sneezing, coughing, itchy nose, mouth and throat, congestion and/or nasal discharge. The offending allergens are usually pollens, molds, dust mites and animal allergens. We aimed to observe inhibitory effects of Bojungikgi-tang on incerase of the number of eosinophil and neutrophil, and protective effects of nasal mucosal tissue in the allergic rhinitis. 1. In Inhibitory Effect of Bojungikgi-tang on Increase of the number of Eosinophil in Serum, Bojungikgi-tang showed significant effects.(p〈0.05) 2. In Inhibitory Effect of Bojungikgi-tang on Increase of the number of Neutrophil in Serum, Bojungikgi-tang showed significant effects.(p〈0.05) 3. In histopathologic change of nasal mucosal tissue, Bojungikgi-tang showed significant protective effects. Depending upon above results, it is considered that Bojungikgi-tang has the inhibitory effects on the process of allergic rhinitis and that it could be used in reliving patients of the symptoms caused by allergic rhinitis.

옥병풍산합소청룡탕(玉屛風散合小靑龍湯)이 알레르기 비염 모델 흰 쥐에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of the Okbyeongpung-san Plus ocheongryong-tang on the Rat Model with Ovalbumin-induced Allergic Rhinitis)

  • Background : Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa which is characterized by sneezing, coughing itchy nose, mouth and throat, congestion and/or nasal discharge. Object : We have studied effects of the Okbyeongpung-san plus Socheongryong-tang on the change of the amounts of IL-4, II-5, $IFN-{\gamma}$ and total IgE in rats OVA-induced allergic rhinitis. Method : The 15 rats were divided into three groups ; normal group, control group, and sample group. To induce allergic rhinitis in control group and sample group , rats were sensitized intraperitoneally with 0.1% ovalbumin(OVA) solution 3 times at intervals of 1 week. Then intranasal sensitization was performed by diffusing 0.1% ovalbumin(OVA) solution 3 times at intervals of 2 days. After that time, rats in the sample group were oral administration treated by Okbyeongpung-san plus Socheongryong-tang 28 days. We observed the change of the amounts of IL-4, II-5, $IFN-{\gamma}$ and total IgE in rats in each grout. Result : 1. In Total IgE study, the treated group was proved significant inhibitory effect(p<0.05) 2. In Interleukin-4(IL-4) study, the treated group was proved significant inhibitory effect(p<0.001> 3. In IL-5 study, the treated group was proved significant inhibitory effect(p<0.001> 4. In Interferone-${\gamma}(IFN-{\gamma})$ study, the treated group was proved significant inhibitory effect(p<0.005) Conclusion : According to the above results, it is considered that the Okbyeongpung-san flus Socheongyong-tang has inhibitory effects on the allergic rhinitis of rats.

사상체질에 따른 신체적 증상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Constitution Type-Specific Presentation of Physical Symptoms)

Objectives: This clinical study was conducted to understand the differences between Sasang constitutional types and to identify the physical symptoms presentation specific to each Sasang constitutional type. 2. Methods: In this descriptive study, 2,629 subjects (1,061 Taeeum-type, 683 Soeum-type, 885 Soyang-type) were surveyed between Nov 1, 2007 and Jul 31, 2010. The subjective symptoms experienced by the subjects were collected using a Physical Symptoms questionnaire, and the subjects were interviewed by Sasang specialists who determined the subjects' constitutional type. The data (in crude number and percentage) was analyzed on the general characteristics, Sasang constitutional type, and physical symptoms using the SPSS 17.0 software. The symptomatic presentation in men and women were analyzed on Sasang constitutional distribution using the chi-square test. 3. Results: 1) The physical symptoms specific to each Sasang constitutional type were as follows: 'frequent aphthous lesions in the oral cavity', 'lingering fatigue after sleep', 'headache', 'common cold symptoms presenting as loss of appetite or indigestion', and 'physical deterioration presenting as problems with digestion' in the Soeum type; 'physical deterioration presenting as problems in perspiration' and 'swelling and puffiness' in the Taeeum type; and 'excessive forgetfulness' in the Soyang type. 2) The physical symptoms specific to each Sasang constitutional type in men were as follows: 'Unilateral or bilateral headaches, 'frequent aphthous lesions in the oral cavity', 'common cold symptoms presenting as rhinorrhea or nasal congestion', 'common cold symptoms presenting as loss of appetite or indigestion', and 'physical deterioration presenting as problems with digestion' in the Soeum type; and 'swelling and puffiness' in the Taeeum type. 3) The physical symptoms specific to each Sasang constitutional type in women were as follows: 'common cold symptoms presenting as headaches', 'common cold symptoms presenting as loss of appetite or indigestion', 'physical deterioration presenting as problems with digestion' in the Soeum type; and 'pain in knees', 'redness of eyes', 'dryness of mouth', 'common cold symptoms presenting as coughing', 'physical deterioration presenting as problems in perspiration', 'swelling and puffiness' in the Taeeum type. 4. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that physical symptoms present in constitutional type-specific patterns. Understanding of the personal Sasang constitutional type and systematic, personalized healthcare based on constitutional typology is anticipated to contribute to improved health management strategy.

Kriging Analysis for Spatio-temporal Variations of Ground Level Ozone Concentration

  • Exposure of high concentration of ground-level ozone (GLO) can trigger a variety of health problems including chest pain, coughing, throat irritation, asthma, bronchitis and congestion. There are substantial human and animal toxicological data that support health effects associated with exposure to ozone and associations have been observed with a wide range of outcomes in epidemiological studies. The aim of the present study is to estimate the spatial distributions of GLO using geostatistical method (ordinary kriging) for assessing the exposure level of ozone in the eastern part of Texas, U.S.A. GLO data were obtained from 63 U.S. EPA's monitoring stations distributed in the region of study during the period January, 2012 to December, 2012. The descriptive statistics indicate that the spatial monthly mean of daily maximum 8 hour ozone concentrations ranged from 30.33 ppb (in January) to 48.05 (in June). The monthly mean of daily maximum 8 hour ozone concentrations was relatively low during the winter months (December, January, and February) and the higher values observed during the summer months (April, May, and June). The higher level of spatial variations observed in the months of July (Standard Deviation: 10.33) and August (Standard Deviation: 10.02). This indicates the existence of regional variations in climatic conditions in the study area. The range of the semivariogram models varied from 0.372 (in November) to 15.59 (in April). The value of the range represents the spatial patterns of ozone concentrations. Kriging maps revealed that the spatial patterns of ozone concentration were not uniform in each month. This may be due to uneven fluctuation in the local climatic conditions from one region to another. Thus, the formation and dispersion processes of ozone also change unevenly from one region to another. The ozone maps clearly indicate that the concentration values found maximum in the north-east region of the study area in most of the months. Part of the coastal area also showed maximum concentrations during the months of October, November, December, and January.
