In this study, the compounds of Prunus persica Flos were extracted with 70.0% acetone and were purified using a sephadex-LH-20 column chromatography. As a result, eight fractions were isolated. For whitening effects, the tyrosinase inhibitory activity was determined to be 92.2% in Fr.-8 isolated from P. persica Flos at 1.000 ppm. The melanoma cell-originated tyrosinase inhibitory effect of Fr.-8 from P. persica Flos was approximately 63.4% at 100 ppm. The inhibitory activity on melanin synthesis by Fr.-8 isolated from P. persica Flos was about 71.7% at 100 ppm concentration. For anti-wrinkling effects, the elastase inhibition activities by Fr.-5, 7 isolated from P. persica Flos were around 71.4 and 74.5% respectively at 1,000 ppm. The collagenase inhibition activity and collagen synthesis by Fr.-8 isolated from P. persica Flos was about 80.0% at 100 ppm. All these findings suggested that the fractions of P. persica Flos have great potential as cosmeceutical ingredients with whitening and anti-wrinkling effects.
The purpose of this study was to examine the anti-oxidative activity of pectin and other polysaccharides in order to develop a cosmeceutical base having anti-oxidative effects towards retinyl palmitate (RP). The anti-oxidative stabilizing effects of pectin and other polysaccharides on RP were evaluated by DPPH assay and then the stabilizing effect of pectin on RP was examined as a function of time. Among the polysaccharides we examined, pectin exhibited a considerably higher anti-oxidative activity, with an approximately 5-fold greater DPPH radical scavenging effect compared to other polysaccharides. The DPPH radical scavenging effect of pectin increased gradually with increasing concentrations of pectin. At two different RP concentrations, 0.01 and 0.1% in ethanol, addition of pectin improved the stability of RP in a concentration dependent manner. The stabilizing effect of pectin on RP was more effective for the lower concentration of RP (0.01%, v/v). Further, degradation of RP was reduced following the addition of pectin as measured over 8 hours. From the results obtained, it can be suggested that pectin may be a promising ingredient for cosmeceutical bases designed to stabilize RP or other pharmacological agents subject to degradation by oxidation.

The extracts of isolated from Coptis Radix conducted an antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans by disc diffusion method and measure clear zone. As a result, it was confirmed that antimicrobial activity against S. aureus and candida. A was observed in all samples except Fr 1. The activity of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging and The activity of 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) cation radical scavenging were determined by antioxidant assay according to the concentrations (50, 125, 250) ${\mu}g/mL$ of extracts of isolated from Coptis Radix. As a result, DPPH radical scavenging activity of Fr 1, 2, 3, 4 at $250{\mu}g/mL$ was 11.4%, 30.3%, 42.0% and 53.1%, respectively and $ABTS^+$ radical scavenging activity was 28.6%, 96.2%, 98.6% and 97.1% at the same concentration, respectively. Fr. 3 and 4 showed higher radical scavenging activity than the positive the control group BHT at the same concentration. In the WST assay results of measuring the cytotoxicity of Coptis Radix, except for Fr. 4, Fr. 1, 2 and 3 did not show toxicity. As a result, the fractions isolated from Coptis Radix can be regarded as a cosmetic material having antimicrobial activity and antioxidant ability.
Objectives : HRHDT has been known as a useful prescription with antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative and immunosuppressive activity. To evaluate anti-inflammatory effect of HRHDT, we treated HRHDT-skin in Balb/c mice model induced contact hypersensitivity. Methods : Contact hypersensitivity, a local inflammatory respinse of skin, was induced by spreading the back skin of Balb/c mice with 1% DNCB. HRHDT-skin was prepared by dissolving 3% 1,3-butylene glycol extract of HRHDT in solution and treated 2 weeks on the back skin. Results: HRHDT-skin significantly reduced TEWL and erythema by 0.4-1% of DNCB treatment compared with control group. HRHDT-skin reduced IgE on serum obtained from blood of DNCB-treated Balb/c mice. Histopathological examination showed that thickening of the epidermis, hyperkeratosis and the infiltration of inflammatory cells were found in Balb/c mice under conventional circumstances. Conclusions : These results showed that HRHDT-skin could be used as a pharmaceutical material with antiinflammatory effects by reducing IgE in contact hypersensitivity dermatitis Balb/c mice by DNCB.
In this study, the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of water extract (ASSW) and 70% ethanol extract (ASSE) of Allium sativum L. stems were investigated using Raw 264.7 cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). ABTS radical scavenging activities of ASSW and ASSE at $1000{\mu}g/mL$ concentration were 96.9% and 97.8%, respectively. In order to investigate the potential anti-inflammatory effects of ASSW and ASSE, nitric oxide (NO), pro-inflammatory cytokines, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor including ${\alpha}$ (TNF-${\alpha}$), interleukin-$1{\beta}$ (IL-$1{\beta}$), and prostaglandin-E2 (PGE2) were measured. ASSW and ASSE at $100{\mu}g/mL$ concentration showed inhibitory effects against NO production by 18% and 23%, respectively. Production of IL-$1{\beta}$ and IL-6 after treatment with ASSW and ASSE at $100{\mu}g/mL$ decreased by approximately 28% and 15% for ASSW and 17% and 12% for ASSE, respectively. In addition, production of TNF-${\alpha}$ after treatment of $100{\mu}g/mL$ of ASSW and ASSE decreased by 24% and 23%, respectively. In addition, the treatment of $100{\mu}g/mL$ of ASSW and ASSE showed inhibitory expressions against PGE2 by 45.47% and 33.87%, respectively. These results suggested that ASSE showed greater inhibitory activity than that of the ASSW by the suppression of inflammatory mediators, including NO, IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$ and PGE2 production, and the expressions of iNOS and COX-2 in macrophages. In conclusion, ASSW and ASSE may have some ancillary effects on inflammatory factors as potential anti-inflammatory agents.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of ethanol extracts from Perilla frutescens var. acuta by varying the concentration of ethanol at 30, 50, 70, and 90% to utilize the effective extract of Perilla frutescens as a cosmetic and pharmaceutical material. In the DPPH antioxidant activity test, the 70% ethanol extract showed the highest activity with an IC50 of 680.98ppm. ABTS showed a high activity in the 50% ethanol extract and the 70% ethanol extract with an IC50 of 646.94 and 661.94 ppm, respectively. Each ethanol extract showed antioxidant activity at a certain concentration (100-10000 ppm), but did not show any significant relationship with the ethanol extract concentration. In RAW 264.7 macrophages induced by LPS, each of the ethanol extracts showed reduced NO production in all extracts, and more than 50% ethanol extract (10000ppm) inhibited nitric oxide formation by 85% or more. In particular, the 70% ethanol extract showed 90% or more nitric oxide production inhibition. In addition, the MTT assay showed no cytotoxicity at all concentrations (1250-10000 ppm) of each extract. In this study, the ethanol extract of Perilla frutescens var. acuta has antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory activity that is dependent on the concentration at each extraction concentration.

In this study, fermented Lycium chinense (L. chinense) extract was used to analyze the efficacy of nitric oxide (NO) and anti-aging inhibition to verify its usefulness as a functional cosmetic material. L. chinense was extracted with hydrothermal and 70% ethanol as a solvent, fermented, concentrated, and freeze-dried to prepare a sample, followed by MTT assay, NO inhibition assay, western blot assay, and UPLC analysis. As a result of the analysis of NO inhibitory efficacy, fermented L. chinense water extract (FLW) and fermented L. chinense 70% ethanol extract (FLE) showed excellent NO inhibitory efficacy of 47.96% and 56.71%, respectively. As a result of measuring the expression patterns of the wrinkle-related proteins MMP-1, and TRPV-1 through Western blot, both FLW and FLE confirmed the inhibitory efficacy of MMP-1 and TRPV-1. Based on the results of the experiment, the fermented L. chinense extract is expected to have a high application value as a functional cosmetic material related anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging.
Objectives : This study was conducted to determine if Scutellaria baicalensis can be used in cosmetic emulsion cream for patients with atopic dermatitis. Methods : Scutellaria baicalensis extract was obtained with the use of butylene glycol through the pressurized solvent extraction(PSE). The antioxidative activity was assessed through SOD-like activity measurement and skin irritating potential was tested using human patch test. Antimicrobial activity was measured by the clear zone formed against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and the rheological effects on the emulsion creams were examined using oscillation test. Results : The SOD-like activity increased dose-dependently and was about 90% at 1,000ppm of Scutellaria baicalesis extract. And Scutellaria baicalensis extract did not show any potential to be irritating to the human skin, but it could not be used as an antimicrobial agent for its poor antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The complex modulus decreased by 1,000 pascals and the loss angle also decreased by 20% with the addition of Scutellaria baicalensis extract into the cosmetic emulsion creams, that is, the extract can confer more elastic property on the vehicle. Conclusion : From those results, Scutellaria baicalensis extract can be effectively used as an antioxidant and reinforces the elastic skincare film formed by the application of cream for patients with atopic dermatitis.
The solvent extracts of Sanguisorbae officinalis L. were investigated for the activities of antioxidants as a functional ingredient for cosmetic products. The electron donating effect of ethyl acetate layer and n-butyl alcohol layer was appeared similar activity with positive control butylated hydroxy anisole (BHA) at all concentrations. In addition, in 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) radical scavenging assay, ethyl acetate layer, n-butyl alcohol layer and water layer were over 99% effect at all concentrations and higher than that of BHA. Also in hydrogen peroxide scavenging assay, ethyl acetate layer and n-butyl alcohol layer were higher than that of positive control ascorbic acid. The measured superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity of n-butyl alcohol was more than 50% at concentration of 1,000 ${\mu}g/mL$ and superoxide anion radical scavenging ability showed more than 45% at 1,000 ${\mu}g/mL$ of n-butyl alcohol layer. All these findings suggested that ethyl acetate layer and n-butyl alcohol layer have a great potential as a cosmeceutical ingredient with an antioxidant effect.
