Effects of Preemptive Analgesia with Parecoxib Sodium on Haemodynamics and Plasma Stress Hormones in Surgical Patients with Thyroid Carcinoma

  • Background: To investigate the effects of preemptive analgesia with parecoxib sodium on haemodynamics and plasma stress hormones in surgical patients with thyroid carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Fifty-seven patients with thyroid carcinoma who underwent thyroidectomy selectively in Laiwu Hospital Affiliated to Taishan Medical University and Binzhou People's Hospital were selected and randomly divided into three groups, 19 cases in each group. The control group was intravenously injected 0.9% sodium chloride injection before anesthesia induction; trial group I was intravenously injected with parecoxib sodium 20 min before anesthesia induction; based on trial group I, trial group II was injected with parecoxib sodium again 12 h after surgery. The levels of plasma norepinephrine (NE), cortisol (Cor) and blood glucose before, 12 and 24 h after surgery and changes of haemodynamics before surgery, at the end of surgery and 12, 24 and 48 h after surgery were compared in the three groups. Besides, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores were recorded 4, 8, 12 and 24 h after surgery. Results: 12 and 24 h after surgery, the levels of plasma NE and Cor in three groups rose dramatically (P<0.05 or (P<0.01); The levels of plasma NE and Cor in trial groups I and II were evidently lower than in control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01), and those in trial group II slightly lower than in trial group I. 12 h after surgery, the heart rates (HR) and systolic pressures (SBP) in trial groups I and II increased obviously by comparison to surgery before (P<0.05 or P<0.01), but gradually returned to the preoperative level. HR, SBP and diastolic pressures (DBP) in trial groups I and II at the end of surgery and 12 h after surgery were all lower than in the control group, and significant differences were present (P<0.05 or (P<0.01). At 4, 8, 12 and 24 h after surgery, VAS scores in trial groups I and II were markedly lower than in the control group (P<0.05 or (P<0.01), the scores in trial group II being the lowest. Conclusions: Combined application of parecoxib sodium for preemptive analgesia before anesthesia and after surgery can effectively reduce the levels of plasma stress hormones and improve analgesic effects in surgical patients with thyroid carcinoma, and without conspicuous impact on haemodynamics.

Effects of Bedding Material Composition in Deep Litter Systems on Bedding Characteristics and Growth Performance of Limousin Calves

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different litter mixture compositions on bedding system temperature, pH and volatile fatty acid and ammonia-N ($NH_3$-N) content, and the serum physico-chemical parameters and growth indices of calves. Thirty-two Limousin calves ($280{\pm}20kg$) were randomly assigned to four groups (n = 8 for each group) according to the bedding system used: i) control with soil only (CTR); ii) mixture with 50% paddy hulls (PH), 30% saw dusts (SD), 10% peat moss (PM) and 10% corn cobs (CC) (TRT1); iii) mixture with 15% PH, 15% SD, 10% PM, 40% CC, and 20% corn stover (CS) (TRT2); iv) mixture with 30% PH, 10% PM, 40% CC, and 20% CS (TRT3). The litter material combinations of different treatments were based on the cost of bedding system materials in China. The cost of four treatments from low to high: Control$NH_3$-N level (271.83 to 894.72 mg/kg) was lowest for TRT1 (p<0.0001) and highest for TRT2 (p<0.0001). The acetate, propionate and butyrate levels were highest for the control group (p<0.0001). In all the groups, the pH value (6.90 to 9.09) increased at the beginning and later remained stable at below 9.09. The temperature of deep litter increased at the first week and reached the maximum ($42.1^{\circ}C$) on day 38. 3,5,3'-Triiodothyronine ($T_3$) levels in the TRT1 group animals (p<0.0001) were lower than those in the control and TRT2 animals. 3,5,3',5'-Tetraiodothyronine ($T_4$) in the TRT1 group (p = 0.006) was lower than that in the other treatment groups. Cortisol (COR) in the control and TRT1 group was lower (p<0.0001) than that in the TRT2 and TRT3 groups. Corticosterone (CORt) in the control group was higher (p<0.0001) than that in the treatment groups. The findings indicate that the deep litter bedding systems provided better conditions for animal health and growth performance compared with the control system. Furthermore, the litter composition of TRT1 was found to be optimal among the three treatment groups.

Effects of photoperiod and light intensity on milk production and milk composition of dairy cows in automatic milking system

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of photoperiod and light intensity on milk production, milk composition, hormones levels and blood metabolites indices of Korean Holstein dairy cows in automatic milking system (AMS). A total of 24 Holstein dairy cows were selected and used to four subsequent treatments for the experimental periods of 60 days. The light programs consisted of (1) Control: the natural photoperiod with 14.2 h of the light period and 9.4 h of the dark period (below 10 Lux); (2) T1: 16 h of the long day photoperiod (LDPP) with 50 Lux of light; (3) T2: 16 h of LDPP with 100 Lux of light; and (4) T3: 16 h of LDPP with 200 Lux of light, respectively. Importantly, there was a significant difference in the thurl activity of dairy cows between the different light intensity programs (p < 0.05). Milk yield was higher in T1 and T2 (40.80 ± 1.71 and 39.90 ± 2.02 kg/d, respectively) than those of Control and T3 (32.18 ± 1.51 and 35.76 ± 2.80 kg/d, respectively) (p < 0.05), but DMI was lower in T1, T2, and T3 compared to Control (p < 0.05). Also, milk fat percentage, the contents of milk fat and total solids were higher in T2 than those in the others (p < 0.05). The average daily melatonin level in milk was high to T3 (28.20 ± 0.43 pg/mL), T2 (24.62 ± 0.32 pg/mL), T1 (19.78 ± 0.35 pg/mL), and Control (19.36 ± 0.45 pg/mL) in order (p < 0.05). Also, the cortisol levels in milk and blood were lower in treatment groups than in Control (p < 0.05). The results of this study showed that it will be effective to improve the milk yield and milk composition, and to reduce the stress of dairy cows when the light conditions regulate to extend the photoperiod to 16 h at a light emitting diode (LED) intensity of 100 Lux under the AMS in dairy farm.

Muscle oxygenation, endocrine and metabolic regulation during low-intensity endurance exercise with blood flow restriction

  • [Purpose] The present study investigated the effect of endurance exercise with blood flow restriction (BFR) performed at either 25% maximal oxygen uptake (${\dot{V}}O_2$ max) or 40% ${\dot{V}}O_2$ max) on muscle oxygenation, energy metabolism, and endocrine responses. [Methods] Ten males were recruited in the present study. The subjects performed three trials: (1) endurance exercise at 40% ${\dot{V}}O_2$ max without BFR (NBFR40), (2) endurance exercise at 25% ${\dot{V}}O_2$ max with BFR (BFR25), and (3) endurance exercise at 40% ${\dot{V}}O_2$ max with BFR (BFR40). The exercises were performed for 15 min during which the pedaling frequency was set at 70 rpm. In BFR25 and BFR40, 2 min of pressure phase (equivalent to 160 mmHg) followed by 1 min of release phase were repeated five times (5 × 3 min) throughout 15 minutes of exercise. During exercise, muscle oxygenation and concentration of respiratory gases were measured. The blood samples were collected before exercise, immediately after 15 min of exercise, and at 15, 30, and 60 minutes after completion of exercise. [Results] Deoxygenated hemoglobin (deoxy-Hb) level during exercise was significantly higher with BFR25 and BFR40 than that with NBFR40. BFR40 showed significantly higher total-hemoglobin (total-Hb) than NBFR40 during 2 min of pressure phase. Moreover, exercise-induced lactate elevation and pH reduction were significantly augmented in BFR40, with concomitant increase in serum cortisol concentration after exercise. Carbohydrate (CHO) oxidation was significantly higher with BFR40 than that with NBFR40 and BFR25, whereas fat oxidation was lower with BFR40. [Conclusion] Deoxy-Hb and total Hb levels were significantly increased during 15 min of pedaling exercise in BFR25 and BFR40, indicating augmented local hypoxia and blood volume (blood perfusion) in the muscle. Moreover, low-and moderate-intensity exercise with BFR facilitated CHO oxidation.

Marine-derived Ca-Mg complex influences lipid and glucose metabolism, serum metabolites, colostrum profile, and stress hormone in sows over four-parity periods

  • Minerals is required small amounts among various nutrients, but it has a significant impact on sow longevity and reproduction performance. This study was carried out to see the beneficial effects of marine-derived Ca-Mg complex on the reproductive performance of sows during four-parity periods. Seventy-two gilts ([Yorkshire × Landrace] × Duroc), with an average body weight of 181 kg, were randomly allocated to three groups; CON (basal diet), 0.3LC (CON - MgO - 0.3% limestone + 0.4% Ca-Mg complex), and 0.7LC (CON - MgO - 0.7% limestone + 0.4% Ca-Mg complex). During parity 3 and 4, the expression level of SCD gene was lower in the umbilical cord of piglets born to 0.3LC and 0.7LC sows compared with the CON sows. During parity 2, 3 and 4, SLC2A2 and FABP4 gene expressions were higher in the umbilical cord of piglets born to 0.7LC sows and the placenta of sows from 0.3LC groups, respectively. Ca-Mg complex increased (p < 0.05) Ca and Mg concentrations in sows and their piglets' serum as well as in colostrum regardless of parities. The serum vitamin D concentration was higher (p < 0.05) in their first parity, whereas serum prolactin and estrogen concentrations were higher (p < 0.05) during the fourth and third parity, respectively. The growth hormone concentrations were higher (p < 0.05) in the piglets born to sows during the first and second parity. The fat and immunoglobulin A (IgA) concentrations in colostrum were higher (p < 0.05) during the third and fourth parity, respectively. A reduction (p < 0.05) in salivary cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine concentrations was observed in 0.3LC and 0.7LC sow groups compared with CON after farrowing regardless of parity, however before farrowing, a reduction in norepinephrine was observed. Before farrowing, the epinephrine and norepinephrine concentrations were higher (p < 0.05) during the first and second parity. After farrowing, the concentration of these hormones was higher during the second parity. Taken together, sows' parity and dietary Ca-Mg complex supplementation influenced serum metabolites, colostrum nutrients, stress hormones as well as the gene expressions related to lipid and glucose metabolism.

가축에서 시기별 혈액 성분과 도체 형질에 대한 표현형 상관에 관한 연구 (Phenotypic Correlation between Carcass Traits and Serum Profiles taken Before and After Slaughter of Hanwoo Bulls and Steers)

  • 한우의 혈액성분과 도체형질간의 상관관계를 구명하여 도체 품질을 예측하고 예견되는 능력에 따른 사양관리로 도체품질을 향상시키고자 한우에서 도축 2개월 전과 수송전 그리고 도살시 혈청성분 농도와 도체 형질간의 표현형 상관을 분석한 결과는 아래와 같다. 1. 거세우의 도살 2개월 전 혈청 성분 농도와 도체 형질간의 상관에서 육량지수는 total protein (0.23), albumin(0.26), calcium(0.31)과 정의상관이나 BUN (-0.30)과는 음의 상관관계가 있었으며, 배최장근단면적은 BUN(0.17), globulin(0.16)과 정의 상관이 있었다. 등지방두께는 BUN(0.42) 및 inorganig phosphorus (0.20)와 정의상관관계이나 total protein(-0.23), albumin(-0.33) 및 calcium(-0.33)과 음의 상관관계가 있었다. 그리고 근내지방도는 BUN (0.28)과는 정의 상관관계가 그리고 IGF-I 및 calcium과는 음의 상관관계가 있었다. 2 거세우의 수송전 혈청성분 농도와 도체형질간의 상관관계를 살펴보면, 배최장근단면적은 TP(-0.16) 및 BUN(-0.15)과 음의 상관이었고, 등지방두께는 IGF-I(-0.21), glucose (-0.21), creatinine(-0.19) 및 inorganic phosphorus (-0.18)와 음의 상관을 나타내었으며, 근내지 방도는 creatinine (-0.16)과 음의 상관관계가 있었다. 3, 거세우의 도살시 혈청 성분 농도와 도체형질간의 상관에서 육량지수는 연령을 보정한 calcium과 정의 상관(0.31)이었고, 생체중은 BUN(0.17)과 정의 상관이었으며, 배최장근단 면적은 albumin(-0.19)과 음의 상관을 나타내었고, 등지방두께는 연령으로 보정되어 calcium(-0.38)과 음의 상관이었고, 근내지방도는 연령으로 보정 한 calcium(-0.17)과 음의 상관을 나타내었다. 4. 도살 2개월 전 혈청 성분 농도와 도체 형질들간의 상관에서 육량지수는 testosterone 및 caicium과 0.71 및 0.67로 높은 상관이었고 inorganic phosphate와 -0.71의 높은 음의 상관을 보였다. 생체중은 calcium과 0.67의 높은 정의 상관이었으나, 도체중은 glucose와 -0.69의 음의 상관이었다. 등지방두께는 cortisol 및 inorganic phosphate(IP)와 0.29 및 0.69)로 정의 상관이었으며, 근내지방도는 creatinine과 -0.81로 높은 음의 상관이었으나 BUN과는 0.87로 높은 정의 상관관계를 나타내었다. 수송 감량은 albumin 및 inorganic phosphate와 0.77, 0.83로 높은 수준의 정의 상관관계를 나타내었다. 5. 비거세우의 수송전 혈청 성분 농도와 도체 형질들 간의 상관에서 육량지수는 testosterone과 0.66으로 정의 상관이었고, 도체율은 globulin과 0.73으로 높은 상관을 나타내었다. 등지방두께는 testosterone과 -0.60의 음의 상관이었고. 배최장근단면적은 testosterone과 0.40의 정의 상관이었고 근내지방도와 creatinine 농도간에는 -0.55의 비교적 높은 음의 상관계수가 추정되었으나 유의성은 인정되지 않았다. 6. 한우 비거세우의 도살시 혈청 성분 농도와 도체형질과의 상관에서 육량지수는 연령에 대해 보정한 HDLC 농도와 -0.71의 음의 상관이었으며, 도체율은 globulin과 0.70의 높은 정의 상관이었고, 등지방두께는 연령으로 보정된 HDLC와 0.69로 정의 상관관계를 보였다. 도체중은 triglyceride와 0.51의 정의 상관, 배최장근단면적은 testosterone과 -0.91, 근내지방도는 creatinine 및 glucose와 -0.58의 비교적 높은 상관을 보였으나 유의성이 인정되지 않았다.

10주간 유산소와 저항성 운동의 다른 수행 순서에 따른 20대 남성의 신체조성, 신체기능과 호르몬에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Different Performance Sequences of Aerobic and Resistance Exercises for 10 Weeks on Body Composition, Physical Function and Hormones in Males aged 20s)

  • 본 연구는 20대 남성을 대상으로 10주간 저항운동과 유산소 운동을 순서가 다르게 실시한 후 신체조성, 운동수행능력 및 호르몬의 변화에 어떠한 영향을 주었는지에 관한 연구이다. 실험 참가자들 (N=30)은 무선할당 방식으로 유산소 운동 후 저항 운동그룹 (n=10, A+R), 저항운동 후 유산소 운동그룹(n=10, R+A)과 통제그룹 (n=10, CON)으로 나누었다. 10주간 유산운동(최대심박수 50-80%, 30분)과 저항운동(50-80% 1RM, 30분)으로 순서를 달리하여 주3회 한 회당 총 70-80분으로 운동을 수행하였다. 훈련 기간 전과 10주후에 신체조성, 운동수행능력, 호르몬이 측정되었다. 연구 결과는 신체조성에서 A+R의 골격근량(p=.015)은 증가하였고 체지방량(p=.042), 체지방률(p=.007)은 감소하였다. R+A의 골격근량(p=.001)은 증가하였고, 체지방량(p=.003)은 감소하였다. CON은 체중(p=.03)과 체지방량(p=.039)이 증가하였다. 운동수행능력에서 A+R에 유산소능력(p=.011)과 저항성능력(p=.001)이 증가하였고, R+A는 저항성능력(p=.0016)이 증가하였다. 호르몬에서 A+R에 에피네프린(p=.048), 노르에피네프린(p=.013), 코티졸(p=.045)이 증가하였고, R+A는 에피네프린(p=.046)이 증가하였다. CON에서는 인슐린(p=.007)이 증가하였다. 이러한 결과로 보면 두 운동 그룹(A+R & R+A)이 통제그룹(CON)에 비하여 우수하고, 그리고 두 운동 그룹 중에서는 A+R이 R+A보다 좀 더 효과적임을 나타내었다.
