해양파이프라인 비파괴검사를 위한 와전류 센서 개발 (Eddy Current Sensor Development for Offshore Pipeline NDT Inspection)

  • Regular high-strength carbon steel is currently the most commonly used pipe material for onshore and offshore pipelines. The corrosion of offshore pipelines is a major problem as they age. The collapse of these structures as a result of corrosion may have a heavy cost is lives and assets. Therefore, their monitoring and screening is a high priority for maintenance, which may ensure the integrity and safety of a structure. Monitoring risers and subsea pipelines effectively can be accomplished using eddy current inspection to detect the average remaining wall thickness of corroded low-alloy carbon steel pipelines through corrosion scaling, paint, coating, and concrete. A test specimen for simulating the offshore pipeline is prepared as a standard specimen for an analysis and experiment with differential bobbin eddy current sensors. Using encircling coils, the signals for the defect in the simulated specimen are analyzed and evaluated in experiments. Differential bobbin eddy current sensors can diagnose the defects in a specimen, and experiments have been carried out using the developed bobbin eddy current sensor. As a result, the most optimum coil parameters were selected for designing differential bobbin eddy current sensors.

  • The solid-state reference electrodes made of polyaniline-coated MnO2 (SSRE-PAM) and their electrochemical characteristics were studied in simulated concrete pore solutions (SCPS) containing 0 and 3.5% NaCl. Saturated calomel electrodes (SCE) have been used to conduct electrochemical studies on the stability behavior of SSRE-PAM. Open circuit potential (OCP) and potentiodynamic polarization techniques were used to assess the corrosion performance of steel rebar exposed in SCPS with 0 and 3.5% NaCl using SSRE-PAM. The results demonstrate that the SSRE-PAM was capable of identifying steel rebar in a concrete environment that was either passive or active. Potentiodynamic polarization parameters such as Ecorr and Icorr for steel rebar in SCPS containing 0 and 3.5%)NaCl are greater than that of the passive condition (0% NaCl). All the studies validate the importance of using SSRE-PAM for corrosion monitoring applications in concrete structures.

  • In present, most of metallic structures (gas pipeline, oil pipeline, water pipeline, etc) are running parallel with subway in Seoul and Pusan.In this case, subway system make a stray current due to electrical corrosion on metallic structures. The owner of metallic structures has a burden of responsibility for the protection of corrosion and the prevention against big accident such as gas explosion or soil pollution and so on. So, they have to measure and analyze the data about P/S(Pipe to Soil) potential, amplitude of stray current, point of source of stray current and so on. In this paper, results of development about Wireless Remote Monitoring and Control System on Underground Pipeline in Stray Current Conditions are presented. And also field test data should be reporting.

주기적 염해 시험에 따른 소켓 타입 전극을 활용한 철근 콘크리트의 OCP 특성 (Characteristics of OCP of Reinforced Concrete Using Socket-type Electrodes during Periodic Salt Damage Test)

  • 콘크리트 구조물의 내부의 매립된 철근은 부동태 피막으로 인해 부식으로부터 보호된다고 알려져 있다. 구조물의 경제적인 내구수명 산정을 위해 부식 발생 시기를 지연시키거나 초기 부식 시점을 평가하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 3 가지 수준의 피복두께(60 mm, 45 mm, 30 mm), 물-시멘트 비(40.0%, 50.0%, 60.0%), 염화물 농도(0.0%, 3.5%, 7.0%)를 고려한 콘크리트 시편을 대상으로 부식 모니터링을 수행하였는데, 한천(Agar) 기반 소켓 형식 센서를 활용하여 OCP를 측정하였다. OCP 측정 시 습윤 조건에서는 전위가 감소하고 건조 조건에서는 감소된 전위가 일부 회복하는 거동을 확인하였다. 모든 물-시멘트 비에서 피복두께가 30 mm의 경우 가장 낮은 OCP값이 측정되었으며, 피복두께가 30 mm에서 45 mm로 증가할 때 빠르게 OCP가 회복하였다. 이는 피복두께가 염화물 이온의 침투에 효과적인 방어기구로 작용하기 때문이다. 염화물 농도가 증가함에 따라 물-시멘트 비의 영향보다 피복두께에 대한 영향이 더 지배적인 경향을 보이는 것으로 도출되었다. 시편의 해체 후 추가적인 모니터링과 염화물량의 평가를 수행하면 제안된 부식 모니터링 기법의 신뢰성을 높일 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Corrosion Behavior of Zn and Zn-AI Alloy Coated Steels under Cyclic Wet-dry Environments

  • Atmospheric corrosion behaviors of Zn, Zn-5%Al and Zn-55%A l coated steels have been investigated under cyclic wet-dry environments containing chloride ions. The wet-dry cycle was carried out by alternate exposure to immersion in 0.5 M (or 0.05 M) NaCl solutions and drying at $25^{\circ}C$ and 60 %RH. The polarization resistance $R_p$ and solution resistance $R_s$ were monitored by AC impedance technique. From the obtained $1/R_p$ and $1/R_s$ values, the corrosion rate of the coatings and the Time of Wetness (TOW) were estimated, respectively. Effects of chloride ions and TOW on the corrosion rates of Zn, Zn-5%Al, Zn-55%Al coatings and appearance of red rust (onset of underlying steel corrosion) under wet-dry cycles are discussed on the basis of the corrosion monitoring data.

Respondence Between Electrochemicl Fluctuations and Phenomenon for Localized Corrosion of Less-Noble Metals

  • We have been studying application of electrochemical noise (Fluctuation) analysis for localized corrosion. Foils of Zinc, Aluminum and Magnesium were used as specimens for electrochemical cell simulating localized corrosion. These specimens were dipped in sodium chloride solutions adjusted to each exponent of Hydrogen ion concentration (pH) condition of 5.5, 10, 12 respectively. Time variations of potential and current were measured in those solutions, and simultaneously the surfaces of specimens were observed using microscope with television monitor. Two types of electrochemical cells were arranged for experiments simulated localized corrosion. The fluctuations on trendy component of short-circuited potential and short-circuited current were appeared in synchronization. It was seemed that these fluctuations result from hydrogen evolution on the aluminum active site in the crevice from the microscopic observation. In the case of zinc and magnesium, fluctuations appeared on the trendy component of the corrosion potential. Two types fluctuation were detected. First one is the fluctuation varied periodically. The second one is the random fluctuation. It was seemed that these fluctuations result from generation of corrosion products and hydrogen evolution on the active site in the crevice of zinc and magnesium from the microscopic observation.

전기화학적 및 해수 건습반복 방법에 의한 콘크리트 내의 임계 염화물량 평가 (Estimation of Chloride Corrosion Threshold Value in Concrete by Using Electrochemical and Cyclic Wet and Dry Seawater Method)

  • It should be noted that the critical chloride threshold level is not considered to be a unique value for all conditions. This value is dependent on concrete mixture proportions, cement type and constituents, presence of admixtures, environmental factors, steel reinforcement surface. conditions, and other factors. In this study, the accelerated corrosion test for reinforcing steel was conducted by electrochemical and cyclic wet and dry seawater method, respectively and during the test, corrosion monitoring by half cell potential method was carried out to estimate the chloride corrosion threshold value when corrosion for reinforcing steel in concrete was perceived. For this purpose, lollypop and right hexahedron test specimens were made for 31.4$\%$, 41.5$\%$ and 49.7$\%$ of w/c, respectively and then the accelerated corrosion test for reinforcing steel was executed. It was observed from the test that the time to initiation of corrosion was found to be different with water-cement ratio and accelerated corrosion test method, respectively and the chloride corrosion threshold value was found to range from 0.91 to 1.43 kg/$m^{3}$.

해양 콘크리트구조물의 철근부식 모니터링을 위한 매크로셀 센서 시스템의 적용 (Application of Macrocell Sensor System for Monitoring of Steel Corrosion in Concrete Structure Exposed to Marine Environment)

  • 철근부식은 해양 콘크리트 구조물의 내구성능을 저하시키는 가장 중요한 인자 중 하나이다. 본 논문은 해양환경에 노출된 콘크리트 구조물의 부식거동을 평가하기 위하여 매크로셀 센서 기법 중 하나인 anode-ladder-system의 적용성을 평가한 것이다. 해양환경으로부터 유입되는 염화물의 침투, 확산에 의한 철근부식 위험성에 노출되어 있는 철근콘크리트 구조물의 전위 및 전류를 측정하여 철근의 부식거동을 정성적으로 평가하였다. 부식 모니터링 센서는 평균 해수면으로부터 각각 3.7, 6.0 및 8.2 m 높이에 매설하였으며, 애노드 단자의 부식특성은 평균해수면의 거리에 따라 다르게 거동함을 확인하였다. 또, migration 실험을 통하여 콘크리트 강도와 확산거동과의 관계를 고찰하였다. 결론적으로, 해양 콘크리트 구조물의 부식을 방지 및 완화하기 위해서는 적절한 콘크리트 피복두께의 확보 및 초기 콘크리트의 품질 개선이 중요한 것으로 조사되었다.

하이볼륨 플라이애시 콘크리트의 철근부식 및 염소이온 확산 특성 (Characteristics for Reinforcement Corrosion and Chloride Ion Diffusion of High Volume Fly Ash Concrete)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 하이볼륨 플라이애시(HVFA) 콘크리트의 강도수준 및 플라이애시의 혼입률별로 콘크리트 내의 철근부식 및 염소이온 침투 저항성을 평가하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 물-결합재비 및 플라이애시 혼입률에 따라 철근 상부를 노출시킨 원주형 공시체와 통상적인 원주형 공시체를 제작하였으며, 이들 각각에 대해 압축강도 및 염소이온 침투 저항성 시험과 전기화학적 방법에 의한 철근부식 촉진시험을 수행하였다. 실험 결과, 대체적으로 플라이애시 혼입률이 많을수록 HVFA 콘크리트의 압축강도는 감소하였으나, 철근부식 및 염소이온 침투 저항성은 크게 개선되는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Corrosion of embedded reinforcing bars is recognized as being the major cause of deterioration of reinforced concrete structures. With regard to maintenance strategies of concrete nuclear structures, the monitoring of cracking remains of primary importance. Recently, authors have developed a post-treatment technique to extract crack features from continuous computations. In this paper, such technique is applied to carry out a numerical analysis of an accelerated corrosion test. Obtained results allow highlighting specific propagation and failure mechanisms that characterize corrosion-induced cracking.
