The fatigue growth behavior of short cracks were studied various load ratios. Computer-aided unloading elastic compliance method was employed to measure the closure and the length of short cracks. In the dc/dN-$\Delta$K relationships. the decreasing behavior of the growth rate of short cracks is due to the decrease of crack opening ratio with increasing crack length. Irrespective of load ratio. the growth rate of short cracks can be well decribed in terms of the effective stress intensity factor range $\Delta$K$_{eff}$, which is calculated on the base of crack closure. dc/dN-$\Delta$K$_{eff}$ relationships of short cracks are found to coincide well with the corresponding long crack relationships. accordingly. the growth rate of short cracks can be predicted using that of long cracks.ort cracks can be predicted using that of long cracks.cks.

In order to investigate the effect of delayed compaction on the strength of the lime soil mixtures, labroatory test with two kind of soils was performed at four levels of lime content, at five levels of water content, and at six love's of delayed times. The results are summarized as follows; 1. Maximum dry density and optimum moisture content decreased with increase of the delayed times. The decreasing rate of those values at the earlier delayed time were large, and those values showed almost constant after about four hours of delayed time. 2. According to the increase of the delayed time, the decreasing rate of maximum dry density and optimum moisture content was large ia S-2 sampl, but was a little in S-1 sample. 3. Unconfined compressive strength of lime soil mixtures decreased with the increase of the delayed time, and the decreasing rate of its strength increased with the increase of the lime content. 4. Water content corresponding to the maximum strength was a little higher than the optimum moisture content along the increase of lime content and delayed time but its value was large in fine soil.

In this paper, we present a video rate control scheme for storage and delivery in which the time-varying viewing interests are controlled by human gaze. To track the gaze, the pupil's movement is detected using the three-step process : detecting face region, eye region, and pupil point. To control bit rates, the quantization parameter (QP) is changed by considering the static parameters, the video object priority derived from the pupil tracking, the target PSNR, and the weighted distortion value of the coder. As results, we achieved human interfaced visual model and corresponding region-of-interest rate control system.

Semiempirical MO calculations using the PM3 method are performed on the reactions of acetate esters with substituted phenolate anions. The mechanistic change from rate-limiting formation to breakdown of the anionic intermediate is shown to occur in the gas-phase, especially for meta-nitrophenyl acetate. However the mechanistic change-over takes place at a lower basicity ($pK_0$) of the anion nucleophile than found for the corresponding formate. This lowering of $pK_0$ has been ascribed to the electron donating effect of the methyl group in the acetate. For the reactions involving rate-limiting breakdown of the intermediate, the large Bronsted coefficients, ${\beta}_X({\beta}_{nuc})$, are expected in general, but the magnitude increases to a larger value and the pK0 is lowered accordingly, when an electron-donating nonleaving group, like $CH_3$, is present. This type of nonleaving group effect provides a necessary condition for the carbonyl addition-elimination mechanism with rate-limiting breakdown of the intermediate.

In this paper, we propose an efficient superposition coding multiplexing(SCM) method based on power allocation in descending order for fading broadcast channels in which per-user minimum and maximum rate constraints are considered in order to maximize the transmission effectiveness. It consists of three steps as follows. In the first step, a user group is selected to maximize the number of users with whom a transmitter can communicate instantaneously. In the second step, per-user power allocation for each user is done in descending order of transmit power by determining a maximum allowable interference power from all subsequent interfering users in order to guarantee its corresponding minimum rate, and then a residual power is calculated. The final step is performed if some power remains even after the second step. In this step, additional power allocation is performed up to the maximum transmit power to provide the maximum rate to the corresponding user, again in ascending order, starting from the last user in descending order. But, this method does not require power reallocation to subsequent users because tentative power allocation in the second step has been performed in descending order to guarantee the minimum rate for each user, taking into account the maximum allowable interference power from all the subsequent users. Therefore, the proposed method gets more efficient in term of computational complexity when per-user minimum as well as maximum rate constraints exist, especially as the number of users increases.
This study suggested quantitative models to calculate a royalty rate as an important input factor of the relief from royalty method which has the characteristics of income approach method and market approach method that are generally used in the valuation of intangible assets. This study built a royalty rate regression model by referring to the patent infringement damages cases based on royalties, i.e., by using the royalty rates as a dependent variable and the patent indexes of the corresponding patent right as independent variables. Then, a logistic regression model was constructed by referring to inter-partes review cases of patent rights, i.e. by using not-unpatentable results as a dependent variable and the patent indexes of the corresponding patent right as independent variables. A final royalty rate was calculated by matching the royalty rate from the royalty rate regression model with a not-unpatentable probability from the logistic regression model. The suggested royalty rate was compared with the royalty rate obtained by the traditional methods to check its reliability.

This paper aims at designing a selective demodulation scheme based on Log-likelihood Ratio threshold (SDLT) instead of the conventional adaptive demodulation (ADM) scheme, by using rateless codes. The major difference is that the Log-likelihood ratio (LLR) threshold is identified as a key factor to control the demodulation rate, while the ADM uses decision region set (DRS) to adjust the bit rate. In the 16-QAM SDLT scheme, we deduce the decision regions over an additive white Gaussian channel, corresponding to the variation of LLR threshold and channel states. We also derived the equations to calculate demodulation rate and bit error rate (BER), which could be proven by simulation results. We present an adaptation strategy for SDLT, and compare it with ADM and adaptive modulation (AM). The simulation results show that our scheme not only significantly outperforms the ADM in terms of BER, but also achieves a performance as good as the AM scheme. Moreover, the proposed scheme can support much more rate patterns over a wide range of channel states.
This study was conducted to evaluate the one-year survival rate of patients with primary malignant central nervous system (CNS) tumors after surgical treatment in Kazakhstan. Retrospective data of patients undergoing operations in the Department of Central Nervous System Pathology in the JSC National Centre for Neurosurgery in the period from 2009 to 2011 were used as the research material. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed with the following information: gender, date of birth, place of residence, diagnosis according to ICD-10, the date of the operation, the morphological type of tumor, clinical stage, state at the end of the first year of observation, and the date of death. The study was approved by the ethical committee of the JSC National Centre for Neurosurgery. The overall one-year overall survival rate (n=152) was 56.5% (95% confidence interval (CI): 50.2-62.7), and 79.5% (95% CI 72.2-86.8) and 33.1% (95% CI: 21.0-42.3) for Grades I-II (n=76) and Grades III-IV (n=76), respectively. Significant prognostic factors which affected the survival rate were age and higher tumor grade (Grades III-IV), corresponding with results described elsewhere in the world.

A new super compact condenser(SCC), which has been developed recently is especially suitable for an alternative refrigerant HFC-134a due to its high performance and compactness. The SCC is composed of two pipe headers, baffles, narrow multi-rectangular channels, and louvered fin arrays. Alternating inlet and outlet by the inserted baffles in pipe headers guide refrigerant to and from the narrow multi-rectangular channels. Since the flow rate and its lengh are changed depending on the number and location of baffles, the corresponding pressure drop and heat transfer rate are changed. The present study aims to theoretically and experimentally investigate the effects of baffle location and its number on the pressure drop and thermal performance of the SCC with 40 multi-rectangular channels. The results show that the present method provides an acceptable prediction of pressure drop and heat transfer rate for a 4 pass SCC. However, the model significantly under predicts the performance of a 3 pass SCC, which may be attributed to the phase separation of refrigerant flowing through header pipes. Pressure drop is more signifi- cantly influenced than heat transfer rate by the baffle location.

The performance of the cold latent heat storage is investigated by experiment and by a simplified analytic approach. The heat storage tank has eight horizontal circular tubes and one path of refrigerant evaporating tube. The phase change material in the heat storage tank is water which is frozen by evaporating refrigerant of refrigeration system and melts by the warm air in the heat storage tank. In the experiment, the performance has been studied by the various conditions including the initial water temperature on solidification and flow rate and temperature of air. The rate of recovered heat has been simulated by a simplified model and the results shows a good agreement. In solidification process, initial water temperature causes time delay corresponding to the sensible heat and it is found that the shape of evaporator is important. In melting process, the recovered heat rate from the heat storage tank is proportional to $Re^{0.8}(T_{bi}-T_f)$ of air where $T_{bi}$ and $T_f$ indicate temperatures of inlet air and phase change, respectively. And the deminishing rate of the recovered heat is higher for the higher heat rate.
