  • Model-based methods are generally used for small area estimation. Recently Shin and Lee (2003) suggested a method which used spatial correlations between areas for data set including some auxiliary variables. However in case of absence of auxiliary variables, Direct estimator is used. Even though direct estimator is unbiased, the large variance of the estimator restricts the use for small area estimation. In this paper, we suggest new estimators which take into account spatial correlation when auxiliary variables are not available. We compared Direct estimator and the newly suggested estimators using MSE, MAE and MB.

  • A big data processing method to predict solar power generation using systems engineering approach is developed in this work. For developing analytical method, linear model (LM), support vector machine (SVN), and artificial neural network (ANN) technique are chosen. As evaluation indices, the cross-correlation and the mean square root of prediction error (RMSEP) are used. From multi-variable comparison test, it was found that ANN methodology provides the highest correlation and the lowest RMSEP.

  • NDVI has been used to estimate several ecological variables including leaf area index (LAI). Global MODIS LAI data are partially produced by empirical model that is based on the assumption of high correlation between NDVI and LAI. This study attempts to evaluate the MODIS empirical model by comparing with the result obtained from field LAI measurement and Landsat ETM+ reflectance. MODIS LAI product and ancillary data were analyzed over a small forest watershed near the Seoul metropolitan area. The relationship between NDVI of ETM+ and field measured LAI did not correspond to MODIS LAI estimation. Since the study area is mostly covered by very dense and fully closed forest, the correlation between NDVI and LAI might not be high. Although MODIS LAI product has great potential for global environment studies, it needs to be cautious to use them in regional and local area in particular for the forest of dense canopy situation.

  • The Bootstrap method proposed by Efron is non-parametric method which doesn't depend on the estimation of prior distribution refer to population. A typical statistical process control chart which is generally used is developed under the assumption that observations follow mutually independent and identically distributed within a sample and between samples. However, autocorrelation greatly affect the developed control chart under the assumption that observations are mutually independent. Many researchers showed that the result which was analyzed by using a typical control chart for the observations which has the correlation violated to the independence assumption can not be true. Therefore, we compared the standard method with bootstrap method and then evaluated them for x control chart and EWMA control chart by using bootstrap method which was proposed by Efron in the AR(1) model when the observations have correlation.

  • This research performed strength improvement analysis after evaluating strength characteristics by estimated temperatures to evaluate the real time strength performance of 50 to 80 MPa high performance concrete equipped with heat resistance, and the results are as follows. The lesser W/B and the lesser target slump flow value difference, compression strength was shown to increase, and the more curing temperature becomes, the strength increased accordingly. According to the correlation review result of strength improvement analysis by estimated temperature change performed using logistic analysis model, the compression strength value predicted with logistic curve expression and the compression strength value measured in experiment were shown to have similar correlation, and the strength improvement analysis value by logistic model was shown to be estimated good when W/B is high.

  • This paper presents a blind watermark detection scheme for an additive watermark embedding model. The proposed estimation-correlation-based watermark detector first estimates the embedded watermark by exploiting non-Gaussian of the real-world audio signal and the mutual independence between the host-signal and the embedded watermark and then a correlation-based detector is used to determine the presence or the absence of the watermark. For watermark estimation, blind source separation (BSS) based on independent component analysis (ICA) is used. Low watermark-to-signal ratio (WSR) is one of the limitations of blind detection with the additive embedding model. The proposed detector uses two-stage processing to improve the WSR at the blind detector; the first stage removes the audio spectrum from the watermarked audio signal using linear predictive (LP) filtering and the second stage uses the resulting residue from the LP filtering stage to estimate the embedded watermark using BSS based on ICA. Simulation results show that the proposed detector performs significantly better than existing estimation-correlationbased detection schemes.

  • The analysis of maximum diversity order and coding gain for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems over time-and frequency-selective (or doubly-selective) channels is addressed in this paper. A novel channel time-space correlation function is developed given the spatially correlated doubly-selective Rayleigh fading channel model. Based on this channel-model assumption, the upper-bound of pairwise error probability (PEP) for MIMO-OFDM systems is derived under the maximum likelihood (ML) detection. For a certain space-frequency code, we quantify the maximum diversity order and deduce the expression of coding gain. In this wort the impact of channel time selectivity is especially studied and a new definition of time diversity is illustrated correspondingly

  • Propeller shaft is one of the main excitation source in the vehicle driveline. This paper presents the correlation of the propeller shaft and axle vibration. 10 D.O.F. lumped mass model is constructed to simulate the dirveline. Experimental apparatus is constructed to verify the simulation model and to measure the vibration signal of lthe driveline. The results of simulation and experiments show that propeller shaft excitation is 2nd harmonic of the rotational frequency. Axle housing vibration signal shows that axle resonate with 2nd harmonic of excitation frequency due to universal joint effect.

  • We investigate noise-induced transitions in active rotator model with a fluctuating threshold in the presence of an additive noise. The fluctuation of the threshold depends on the additive noise in a nonlinear fashion. In the white-noise limit of the fluctuation, the Fokker-Planck equation of the system reduces to that of the system with correlated linear fluctuation implying that the nonlinearity may be transformed into the correlation of linear noises. We also investigate the system with a nonlinear colored noise which depends on the additive noise as its square. The system shows a single peak, two peaks, and three peaks in its steady state probability distribution according to the noise intensities and the correlation time whose change leads to peak-creating, peak-splitting, and peak-merging transitions.

  • Through the analysis of many experimental post-dryout data, it is shown that the most probable flow regime near dryout or quench front is not annular flow but churn-turbulent flow when the mass flux is low. A correlation describing the initial droplet size just after the CHF position at low mass flux is suggested through regression analysis. In the post-dryout region at low pressure and low flow, it is found that the suggested one-dimensional mechanistic model is not applicable when the vapor superficial velocity is very low, i.e., when the flow is bubbly or slug flow regime. This is explained by the change of main entrainment mechanism with the change of flow regime. Therefore, the suggested correlation is valid only in the churn-turbulent flow regime ( $j_{g}$ $^{*}$=0.5~4.5).).
