  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence, and determine factors associated with metabolic syndrome risk among kidney transplantation recipients. This study data were collected by means of retrospective chart reviews for 111 kidney recipients at an organ transplantation center in South Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test or chi-squared test, and Pearson's correlation or Point biserial correlation. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in our subjects was 65.8%. Metabolic syndrome was related with age, body mass index of before and after Kidney transplantation, and smoking. Study results indicate that intervention for modifying individual lifestyle behaviors is required to prevent and reduce their prevalence of metabolic syndrome after kidney transplantation.

  • Background An abnormally obtuse cranial base angle, also known as platybasia, is a common finding in patients with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS). Platybasia increases the depth of the velopharynx and is therefore postulated to contribute to velopharyngeal dysfunction. Our objective was to determine the clinical significance of platybasia in 22q11DS by exploring the relationship between cranial base angles and speech resonance. Methods In this retrospective chart review at a tertiary hospital, 24 children (age, 4.0-13.1 years) with 22q11.2DS underwent speech assessments and lateral cephalograms, which allowed for the measurement of the cranial base angles. Results One patient (4%) had hyponasal resonance, 8 (33%) had normal resonance, 10 (42%) had hypernasal resonance on vowels only, and 5 (21%) had hypernasal resonance on both vowels and consonants. The mean cranial base angle was $136.5^{\circ}$ (standard deviation, $5.3^{\circ}$; range, $122.3-144.8^{\circ}$). The Kruskal-Wallis test showed no significant relationship between the resonance ratings and cranial base angles (P=0.242). Cranial base angles and speech ratings were not correlated (Spearman correlation=0.321, P=0.126). The group with hypernasal resonance had a significantly more obtuse mean cranial base angle ($138^{\circ}$ vs. $134^{\circ}$, P=0.049) but did not have a greater prevalence of platybasia (73% vs. 56%, P=0.412). Conclusions In this retrospective chart review of patients with 22q11DS, cranial base angles were not correlated with speech resonance. The clinical significance of platybasia remains unknown.

  • For the development of design chart for drilled shafts socketed into weathered zone, the 6 bi-directional pile load tests with load transfer measurements done in two in-situ sites were performed. Also, DCPTs were performed in each test point. Maximum unit skin frictions and maximum unit end bearing capacities from pile load test results were analyzed. Inter-relationships between DCPT's characteristics were also analyzed. In the soils, the inter-relationships of maximum unit skin friction and DCPT appeared so low. But in the weathered zones, inter-relationships between maximum unit skin friction / maximum unit end bearing capacity and DCPT were so high that the coefficient of correlation is over 0.70.

  • The 1986 AASHTO Guide for the Design of Pavement Structures introduced the resilient modulus as a definitive material property to characterize roadbed soil. Although the incorporation of resilient modulus represents a significant acvance in pavement design practice, the test procedure for resilient modulus is complicated and time-consuming. Therefore, it is necessary to develop data base of resilient modulus for the soils frequently encountered; and to develop the reliable correlations between resilient properties and parameters from simple routine tests, In this study, resilient modulus tests were performed on five cohesive soils sampled from in-service subgrades. The stress at 1 percent axial strain in unconfined compression test(su1.0%) was found as a good indicator of the resilient modulus, and unique relationship between Mg and Su1.0% was obtained. A simple chart to estimate the resilient modulus at different levels of confining stress and deviator stress was also developed.

  • Water hammer phenomena are important issues for the design and the operation of hydro power plants. Especially, if several reversible pump-turbines are coupled hydraulically there may be strong unit interactions. The precise prediction of all relevant transients is challenging. Regarding a recent pump-storage project, dynamic measurements motivate an improved turbine modeling approach making use of a Thoma number dependency. The proposed method is validated for several transient scenarios and turns out to improve correlation between measurement and simulation results significantly. Starting from simple scenarios, this allows better prediction of more complex transients. By applying a fully automated simulation procedure broad operating ranges of the highly nonlinear system can be covered providing a consistent insight into the plant dynamics. This finally allows the optimization of the closing strategy and hence the overall power plant performance.

  • In recent industry society, it is revealed that, as an increase in the use of automated manufacturing and process inspection technology, the data from mass production system exhibits some degrees of autocorrelation. The operation characteristics of traditional control charts developed under the independence assumption are adversely affected by the presence of serial correlation. Therefore, when autocorrelated construction contacted with time-series models explain, the time-series models are the Box-Jenkins forecast models which have been proposed as the best forecasting tool which allows for partitioning of variation into result from the autocorrelation structure and variation due to unusual but assignable causes. In this paper, for the AR(1) process of Box-Jenkins forecast models, when the constant term ξ are zero and different from zero, I want to analyze the sensitivity of (equation omitted), CUSUM and EWMA control chart for forecast residuals.

  • This paper is to propose model classification and evaluation of measurement uncertainty. In order to obtain type A and B uncertainty, variety of measurement mathematical models are illustrated by example. The four steps to evaluate expanded uncertainty are indicated as following; First, to get type A standard uncertainty, measurement mathematical models of single, double, multiple, design of experiment and serial autocorrelation are shown. Second, to solve type B standard uncertainty measurement mathematical models of empirical probability distributions and multivariate are presented. Third, type A and B combined uncertainty, considering sensitivity coefficient, linearity and correlation are discussed. Lastly, expanded uncertainty, considering degree of freedom for type A, B uncertainty and coverage factor are presented with uncertainty budget. SPC control chart to control expanded uncertainty is shown.

  • This study explores the relationship between the expression of material Sensibility properties and the meaning of tectonic in the architectural space of Kengo kuma. First of all, It can be derived that The sensibility of the material is based on phenomenological meaning of the tectonic after modern architecture that also Kengo kuma has been aware of. So it derived characteristics of sensibility by material expression and meaning from the Kengo kuma's works including critical books and collection of architecture works. All derived characteristics consist of sub-sections of the case analysis to figure out correlation with expression of Material Sensibility and tectonic meaning at the Kengo kuma's works. At the ends, it was analyzed through the relationship chart.
