  • This study (1) explored spatio-temporal population distribution patterns in Jeonju by using emerging hot spot analysis and (2) identified the influential factors to determine the spatio-temporal patterns by using multinomial logit model. The major findings are as follows. First, the results of emerging hot spot analysis indicated that the 100*100m grid in the urban area of Jeonju was found to have a category of hot spots, whereas most of the cold spot series was concentrated in the outskirts of the city. Also, new towns such as Jeonju Eco City, Jeonbuk Innovation City, and Hyocheon District were persistent or intensifying hot spots, Third, the results of multinomial logit model revealed that the factors influencing deterrmining the spatio-temporal patterns were accessibility to schools, hospitals, parks, and walfare services. This study offered a deeper understanding of urbanization and regional changes in Jeonju, and important information for urban planning.

  • In this study, physics based K-DRUM(K-water Distributed RUnoff Model) using GIS spatial hydrologic data as input data was developed to account for the temperature variation according to the altitude change considering snow melt and cover. The model was applied for Pakistan Kunhar River Basin($2,500km^2$) to calculate long-term discharge considering snow melt and cover. Time series analysis of the temperature and rainfall data reveals that temperature and rainfall of the river basin differs significantly according to altitude change compared to domestic basin. Thus, applying temperature and altitude lapse rate during generate input data generation. As a result, calculated discharge shows good agreement with observed ones considering snow melt and accumulation characteristic which has the difference of 4,000 meter elevation above sea level. In addition, the simulated discharge strongly showed snow melting effect associated with temperature rise during the summer season.

  • ln this study, a natural gas pipeline network model was established using STONER. First a map of natural gas pipeline network was drawn on STONER and then the length and diameter of the pipe were inputted. And as the specific gravity of gas flowing in the pipeline which is the value of natural gas was inputted. Finally in order to decide the pipeline variables and gas temperature, through the verification with observed real data, the possible error was minimized. For the verification, the pipeline variables and gas temperature were assumed and the pipeline network analysis was accomplished with real demand data. The square deviation of analysed pressure from observed pressure was calculated and the minimum case was selected for the optimum pipeline variables and gas temperature. Thus a proper natural gas pipeline network model for real network was established.

  • For efficient turbid water management a SWAT model was established for the Imha-Andong watershed where serious turbid water problems have frequently occurred. To evaluate soil loss combined with rainfall runoff process, the analysis focused on comparing the daily runoff discharge and concentration of suspended sediment (SS) using measured data sets. The results of annual SS load analysis for each sub-basin using the calibrated model showed that in the entire target watershed the soil loss ranged from 0.7 to 5.9 tons/ha in year 2005 and from 3.0 to 34.0 tons/ha in year 2003 when the typhoon 'Maemi' severly affected the area. In the future, it is suggest to increase model simulation accuracies supported by a long-term and extensive monitoring to enhance basin-wide suspended sediment estimation and management.

  • Objectives: This study used the characteristics of the knowledge discovery and data mining algorithms to develop hypertension predictive model for hypertension management using the Korea National Health Insurance Corporation database(the insureds' screening and health care benefit data). Methods: This study validated the predictive power of data mining algorithms by comparing the performance of logistic regression, decision tree, and ensemble technique. On the basis of internal and external validation, it was found that the model performance of logistic regression method was the best among the above three techniques. Results: Major results of logistic regression analysis suggested that the probability of hypertension was: - lower for the female(compared with the male)(OR=0.834) - higher for the persons whose ages were 60 or above(compared with below 40)(OR=4.628) - higher for obese persons(compared with normal persons)(OR= 2.103) - higher for the persons with high level of glucose(compared with normal persons)(OR=1.086) - higher for the persons who had family history of hypertension(compared with the persons who had not)(OR=1.512) - higher for the persons who periodically drank alcohol(compared with the persons who did not)$(OR=1.037{\sim}1.291)$ Conclusions: This study produced several factors affecting the outbreak of hypertension using screening. It is considered to be a contributing factor towards the nation's building of a Hypertension Management System in the near future by bringing forth representative results on the rise and care of hypertension.

  • For efficient turbid water withdrawal in the Imha reservoir, a selective withdrawal facility was recently installed and operated during summer season of year 2006. In this research, CE-QUAL-W2 model was utilized to assess the efficiency of the selective withdrawal facility, in comparison with the original surface withdrawal, on turbid water management. Model calibration was carried out using data observed at four automatic monitoring stations in the reservoir. It was found that the model appropriately simulated, with the RMSE less than 5.2 NTU, the observed vertical and horizontal distributions of water temperature and turbidity as well as the location of maximum turbid water at each monitoring station. The analysis results showed that selective withdrawal is more effective in removing high turbid water than surface withdrawal as selective withdrawal contributed to reducing $35Mm^3$ of high turbidity water (> 100 NTU) in the reservoir by increasing outflows of high turbid water. Therefore, effective management of turbid water in the reservoir can be achieved by changing locations of intake depending on turbid water distribution conditions. The results of this study will provide some basic information for establishing better operation strategies to cope with turbid water problems.

  • Borehole Data is geotechnical information provided so that workers can safely perform construction at the field. It creates 3D data and supports viewing as a 3D image. Currently, all Korean companies that develop programs using 3D visualization use the MVS program developed by C Tech Development Corporation. However, the MVS program is a commercial program, and it is difficult to use MVS in 3D related programs developed by Korean Companies. In this paper, we propose to develop a program that can replace MVS to generate a 3D stratum model from clustered borehole information using Python's Gempy open-source. The 3D stratum model program can creates point data for each stratum and can creates a surface for each stratum through interpolation. Then, the 3D stratum model program is completed by merging the surfaces of each stratum. It was confirmed that there was no difference when a 3D model was created and compared with the MVS program and the proposed program from the borehole data of a Goyang area.

  • To effectively implement the integrated water management policy outlined in the National Water Management Act, it is essential to analyze agricultural water supply and demand at both basin and water district levels. Currently, agricultural water is primarily distributed through open canal systems and controlled by floodgates, yet the utilization-to-supply ratio remains at a mere 48%. In the case of agricultural water, when analyzing water balance through existing national basin water resource models (K-WEAP, K-MODISM), distortion of supply and regression occurs due to calculation of regression rate based on the concept of net water consumption. In addition, by simplifying the complex and diverse agricultural water supply system within the basin into a single virtual reservoir, it is difficult to analyze the surplus or shortage of agricultural water for each field within the basin. There are limitations in reflecting the characteristics and actual sites of rural water areas, such as inconsistencies with river and reservoir supply priority sites. This study focuses on the development of a model aimed at improving the deficiencies of current water balance analysis methods. The developed model aims to provide standardized water balance analysis nationwide, with initial application to the Anseo standard watershed. Utilizing data from 32 facilities within the standard watershed, the study conducted water balance analysis through watershed linkage, highlighting differences and improvements compared to existing methods.

  • This paper deals with verification of the theoretical model for dynamic behavior of Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG) traveling through high pressure natural gas pipeline. The dynamic behavior of the PIG depends on the differential pressure across its body. This differential pressure is generated by injected gas flow behind the tail of the PIG and expelled gas flow in front of its nose. To analyze the dynamic behavior characteristics such as gas flow in pipeline, and the PIG position and velocity, not only the mathematical models are derived, but also the theoretical models must be certified by actual pigging experiment. But there is not any found results of research on the experimental certification for dynamic behavior of the PIG. The reason is why the fabrication of the PIG as well as, a field application are very difficult. In this research, the effectiveness of the introduced solution using the method of characteristics (MOC) was certified through field application. In-line inspection tool, 30" geometry PIG, was fabricated and actual pigging was carried out at the pipeline segment in Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) high pressure system, Incheon LT (LNG Terminal) -Namdong GS (Governor Station) line. Pigging is fulfilled successfully. Comparison of simulation results with experimental results show that the derived mathematical models and the proposed computational schemes are effective for predicting the position and velocity of the PIG with a given operational conditions of pipeline.

  • Bicationic minerals such as calcium and magnesium are known to protect the skin barrier. The principal objective of this study was to evaluate the skin barrier protective effects of mineral water, which is composed of calcium, magnesium, manganese, and fluorine. UVB irradiation induces a destruction of tight junction (TJ) components. The TJ permeability barrier was also disrupted by UVB irradiation. We employed a skin equivalent model to assess the efficacy of mineral water in this regard. Mineral water maintained the structure of the skin equivalents following UVB irradiation. The results of the TJ permeability assay showed that mineral water helped to maintain the TJ permeability barrier after UVB irradiation in skin equivalent model. Mineral water supported the structure of TJ components and restored the occludin protein level in differentiated normal human keratinocytes after UVB irradiation. In conclusion, we found out the protective effect of mineral water against UVB irradiation.
