This paper discussed the effect of ammonia concentration adsorbed on fly ash for the ammonia emission as AAFA (Ammonia Adsorbed Fly Ash) produced from coal fired plants due to operation of NOx reduction technologies was landfilled with distilled or sea water at closed and open systems, respectively. Ammonia bisulfate and sulfates adsorbed on fly ash is highly water soluble. The pH of ammonium bisulfate and sulfate solution had significant effect on ammonia odor emission. The effect of temperature on ammonia odor emission from mixture was less than pH, the rate of ammonia emission increased with increased temperature when the pH conditions were kept at constant. Since AAFA increases the pH of solution substantially, $NH_3$ in the ash can release the ammonia order unless it is present at low concentration. $NH_4{^+}$ ion is unstable in fly ash and water mixtures of high pH at open system, which is changed to nitrite or nitrate and then released as ammonia gas. The proper conditions for < 20 ppm of ammonia concentration released from the AAFAs landfilled in ash pond were explored using an open system with sea water. It was therefore proposed that optimal operation to collect AAFA of less than 168 ppm ammonia at the electrostatic precipitator were controlled to ammonia slip with less than 5 ppm at SCR/SNCR installations, and, ammonia odor released from mixture of fly ash of 168 ppm ammonia with sea water under open system has about 20 ppm.

Hydrogen town in Republic of Korea was established in 2013. Hydrogen as a byproduct produced by various processes of factories is used in hydrogen town facilities. As cell performance is affected by contaminations in fuel gas, various standards about impurities of fuel have been determined by many countries. This study shows performance degradation of single cell with impurities concentrations. Traces of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$)can cause considerable cell performance losses. For comparing the performances by poisoning of CO, acceleration test, I-V curve, constant current are performed. Both the CO and $H_2S$ poisoning rate are a function of their concentration. With the higher concentrations the higher poisoning rates are observed. And, it was confirmed that, oxidation behavior and side reaction generation are not affected. Under the lower $H_2S$ concentration condition, the poisoning rate is much higher than that of CO because of its different adsorption intensity. It can be possible that the result of this study can be used for enacting regulation as a baseline data.
This study was performed to identify the optimal operating conditions and to evaluate the xylene removal efficiency, applying in-situ soil flushing with the low concentrated solution of 'Tween 80' at the xylene contaminated site. The pilot scale test site ($5m{\times}5m{\times}3m$), was mainly composed of 'sandy loam', with the average hydraulic conductivity of $9.1{\times}10^{-4}cm\;s^{-1}$. The average xylene concentration of the site was 42.1 mg $kg^{-1}$, which was more than 2.5 times higher than Korea soil pollution warning limit (15 mg $kg^{-1}$). For the soil flushing, 7,800 L of 0.1~0.2% surfactant solution was injected into three injection wells at the average injection time of 9 hr $d^{-1}$ for 10 days, followed by the additional only groundwater injection of 6,000 L. The same amount of the effluent solution was extracted from three extraction wells. From the analysis for xylene concentration of all effluent at 3 extraction wells, total 166 g of xylene was removed by in-situ surfactant flushing. Even though the residual xylene concentrations of 7 soil sampling locations in the test site were different due to the soil heterogeneity, from the comparison of xylene concentration at 7 locations before/after the feasibility test, 53.9% of the initial xylene in the site was removed from three extraction wells (mainly Ext-N and Ext-M well). The results showed that the in-situ soil flushing by using low concentrated 'Tween 80' solution had a great potential to remediate the xylene contaminated site.

The background concentrations of heavy metals in Korean coastal sediments were estimated using heavy metal data for 495 sediments obtained from 'National Marine Ecosystem Survey (Coastal ecosystem) in 2016-2017' and the extent of contamination was assessed. Al, Cs, and Li are chosen as appropriate indicators for sediment grain size. In the relationships between heavy metal and indicators concentrations, the lowest slope data were selected through the outlier removal and residual analysis, and the background concentrations were presented as a linear regression line between metal and indicator. Comparing the previous studies for the background concentrations of heavy metals in Korean coastal sediments, concentration levels were generally consistent but those for As and Cd were presented for the first time, and the background concentration using Li as the indicator was presented for the first time.
In recent years, Zn-Al-Mg alloy galvanized steel sheets have been widely used as coated steel sheets to support social capital in the infrastructure field. A feature of Zn-Al-Mg alloy-coated steel sheets is that they provide a better corrosion protection period than Zn-coated steel sheets. In this study, the corrosion resistance of a new Zn-Al-Mg alloy-coated steel sheet was investigated and compared to that of conventional commercially available coated steel sheets. The investigation confirmed that increasing the Mg concentration in the Zn-Al-Mg-coated steel sheet improved corrosion resistance, which was more than 10 times that of the galvanized steel sheet specified in JIS G 3302. The study findings also confirmed that the corrosion resistance reached more than twice that of the coated steel sheet specified in JIS G 3323. If such galvanized steel sheets are applied to social infrastructures that are exposed to severely corrosive environments, the service life of the infrastructure might be extended.

KEPCO installed AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) metering system for low-voltage customers from 2008. AMI metering system of KEPCO has operated 2.55 million customers and will plan to operate 22 million customers until 2020. KEPCO developed AMI NMS (Network Management System) to operate the meter reading network efficiently. NMS monitors the network status of DCUs (Data Concentration Unit) and modems. NMS provides functionalities of data collection and analysis. It collects property data of network device, network topology information, communication performance information, fault information, and etc. It analyzes collected data and controls network devices by remote access. AMI NMS collects about 370 MIBs (Mangement Information Bases) using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). This paper introduces main functionalities, designed context, and implemented service screen.
This study was conducted to investigate if the supplement formula may improve alcohol metabolism in healthy adult men. In a double-blinded, randomized, crossover study, subjects were administrated yeast extract mixtures (YEM, n=15), Hovenia dulcis mixtures (HDM, n=15), placebo (PLA, n=15), and control (CON, n=15) in an oral dose followed by one week washout periods. At each visit (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 week), subjects drank 450 mL, 20.1 percent alcohol after administered mixtures. Blood was drawn periodically (0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6, 15 hours). Fifteen subjects completed the protocol and were included in the analysis. Plasma ethanol concentration was lower in YEM (10 percent) and the HDM (5 percent) groups. The area under the curves (AUC) and $C_{max}$ for plasma ethanol were significantly decreased only in the YEM group, when compared with the CON group. The AUC and $C_{max}$ for plasma acetaldehyde concentration were significantly decreased in the YEM (45 and 54 percent) and the HDM (35 and 53 percent) groups respectively, when compared with PLA (p<0.01). Together, these findings validate that YEM or HDM improved alcohol metabolism and hangover syndromes, leading to reduce alcohol concentration and acetaldehyde concentration without adverse effects.
An episode of corona is a heterogeneity-caused electric discharge that occurs when electric fields are formed layer on layer and concentrated on an electrode. Electric wires built at the tip of 154kV private facilities use dead end clamp spawns corona from homogeneity caused by field concentration. Corona induces power loss, noise, insulator failure and more. In this research, we've studied the characteristics of coronas that take place in porcelain insulators and terminal electric wires of supporting hard wares (dead end clamp) that are set up as spares in the 154kV private facilities use hydroelectricity installations to support electric wires. Corona, which cannot be identified by regular methods, was measured utilizing UV image camera. As the result of measuring corona via UV image camera, we've confirmed that the depletion of insulators was accelerated following the wire end treatment method and validated the stress intensity of insulators at various lengths of bare wires caused by electric fields via FEMLAB. We have also proposed a new model for relieving homogeneity-caused field concentration, and after analyzing the proposed model via FEMLAB, we've confirmed that the concentration of field distribution was indeed reduced. Such results are exploited in installation of private facilities use equipments, maintenance of insulators and hard wares as well as safety enhancement, and are anticipated to be effectively utilized in corona prevention measures.

Biological exposure indices (BEI) of toluene, perchloroethylene (PCE) and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) for Korean workers were studied respectively. Environmental exposures in workplace to organic solvent were measured by personal sampling. Blood toluene, blood perchloroethylene, urinary trichloroacetic acid and urinary MEK were determined by headspace gas chromatography. Urinary hippuric acid were determined by HPLC and corrected by creatinine. BEIs for Korean workers were calculated as the levels of determinants which are correspond to permissible exposure limits in Korea. Blood toluene level of 2.2mg/l and urinary hippuric acid level of 1.7g/g creatinine are correspond to an exposure of 100 ppm toluene. Blood PCE concentration of 1.6mg/l and urinary trichloroacetic acid concentration of 2.9mg/l are correspond to an exposure of 50ppm PCE. Urinary MEK concentration of 1.0mg/l is correspond to an exposure of 200ppm of MEK. BEIs for Korean workers determined in this study are very different to ACGIH's BEI as urinary determinants are much lower and blood determinants are much higher than ACGIH's BEI.
