A Power Estimation Method for ASIPs Considering Data Types of Variables in Application Programs

  • This paper proposes an efficient and accurate power estimation method for Application Specific Instruction set Processors (ASIPs). Proposed method takes advantage of the data types of variables in application program to be executed on the ASIP. According to the experimental results, the efficiency of proposed method was more than 1000 times as high as that of conventional RTL based power estimation method, and the estimation error was within 10% compared to a conventional gate-level accurate power estimation method

  • 본 연구는 스마트워크 환경 하에서의 바람직한 기업문화를 창출하는데 있다. 정부의 탄소배출 억제 정책과 기업의 효율적인 비용절감, 생산성 극대화 그리고 개인의 일과 가정의 양립조건을 만족시킬 수 있는 스마트워크에 대한 관심이 확대되고 있다. 이러한 관심과 정보통신기술의 급격한 발전으로 스마트워크의 현실적인 여건이 마련되었으나 법률검토 및 제도장치 마련 등 충분한 사전 준비 없이 진행되다보니 많은 혼란과 도입하는 기업이 저조하다. 정부, 기업, 종업원 등 이해관계자의 조정을 통한 사회적 합의가 도출되어야 하며, 개인과 조직이 동반성장할 수 있는 WIN-WIN 방안을 연구하고, 스마트워크 환경의 새로운 기업문화의 방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 스마트워크는 단순한 '원격근무' 이상의 의미를 갖는다. 똑똑하게 일하는 방식의 스마트워크는 일을 하기위한 이동을 최소화하고 일과 사람이 함께 움직이는 새로운 패러다임으로의 전환을 의미하며, 일 중심의 문화에서 사람중심의 문화로의 변화를 의미한다. 본 논문에서는 성공적인 스마트워크 도입을 위하여 정부 및 기업의 역할을 정리하였으며, 강력한 추진력을 가진 정부차원의 '스마트워크 활성화 추진위원회(가칭)'를 두어 행정안전부, 노동부, 여성가족부, 방송통신위원회 등과 조율하여 스마트워크의 새로운 문화를 창출하고, 민간협의체를 구성하여 민간 기업 부문의 스마트워크 기업문화 창출 및 확산을 지원해 나갈 것을 제안하였다.

The Effects of Contestability of Control on Korean's Firm Performance

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship power distribution among several blockholders (contestability) and firm performance. We use a sample of 646 firms listed in the security markets of Korea from 2005 to 2007. Using different measures of contestability, we verify advance research literature by examining that, when power dispersion among several blockholders (contestability) increases, firm performance is enhanced. The results show that, when the possibility of a controlling coalition being formed among several blocks increases, the corporate value decreases. We also find that this relationship is even more significant in KOSDAQ. However, the smaller the competition of voting rights among blockholders, the higher the corporate performance in KOSPI. The reason for this seems to be that the two markets are different in terms of ownership and governance. This suggests that the effects of contestability among blockholders on firm performance depend on the type of the stock market. The results of this study expand the existing governance literature by analyzing the relationship between contestability among blockholders and firm performance in emerging markets such as Korea. Our findings contribute to policymakers and investors who are interested in the relationship between contestability of control and firm performance in the Korea stock market.

기업의 사회공헌에 관한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study on the Corporate Social Activities of Business)

  • This research tried to grasp present condition of domestic corporation's society contribution activity and grope desirable direction of society contribution activity hereafter. As analysis result, establishment of the responsible department or human power in charge for society contribution activity is insufficient, and depend on contribution activity of simple donation than to administer program directly, result of contribution activity is not linked with corporation's purpose or result and practical use of network with similar organization for society contribution was proved by low. Desirable direction of domestic corporation society contribution activity is as following hereafter based on analysis result. First, corporation must put in good order inside system with an establishment of the responsible department for society contribution, security of human power in charge and introducing education program for training specialist. Second, corporation must select specific field with capacity that corporation is holding and improve result of society contribution activity as concentrated investment. Third, corporation must construct network with various similar groups and organizations including NPO/NGO and heighten consummativeness of society contribution activity through mutual interchange and cooperation.

  • The automatic quiescent power cut-off receptacles(QPCR from now on) have achieved a noticeable energy saving so far. The government is preparing a new code for wider promotion of the QPCRs. This paper presents a new QPCR that adopts the latch relay instead of the conventional coil-operated relay. Measurement results of the prototype have shown up to 0.22W improvement of quiescent power compared with existing products.

  • Recently, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) have become increasingly popular in the last few decades, and overseas' M&A are particularly increasing to sharpen corporate competitiveness on a global scale. Previous studies showed that one of the main reasons attributes to failures of mergers was the lack of attention to merging information systems. In recent years, both academy and industry have more focused on Post-Merger Integration (PMI) and the integration of information systems (IS) between two companies is one of the critical success factors of corporate. This paper focused on Post-Merger IT (Information Technology) Integration Methodology of Cross-Border M&A. We followed a single-site qualitative case study method in order to investigate the type of phenomenon in M&A's natural setting. Moreover, we examined a typical energy and power company case in order-based industry, so that other industry players may have different results to determine post-merger IT integration method and scope.

CNT Emitter Coated with Nanoparticles for FED Application

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have used as an electron field emitter of the field emission display (FED) due to their characteristics of high-electron emission, rapid response and low power consumption. However, to commercialize the FED with CNT emitter, some fundamental problems regarding life time and emission efficiency have to be solved. In this study, we investigated the metal coated CNT as a field emitter on which metal nanoparticles were coated by chemical modification. Metal nanoparticles, such as Ru, Pd, were synthesized by solution reduction method. The size of the metal nanoparticle has the range of 2 - 5 nm. Surface was modified chemically with the use of ionic surfactant which changed the surface charge of nanoparticles.

외식기업 문화와 리더십이 경쟁 우위에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Organization Culture and Leadership on Competitive Advantage in Food Service Companies)

  • In order to cope with the severe business environment and possess the competitive advantage in the food service industry, the effect of organization culture and leadership on competitive advantage in food service companies was investigated. The friendly culture was regarded as important in relation between corporate culture and leadership. And the tendency to participate was shown to be highly correlated to leadership. Leadership and competitive advantage were influenced by the tendency to participate, differentiation and competence. The corporate culture and competitive advantage were affected by the friendly culture, differentiation and competence. Especially, the organization culture was more important than leadership. Therefore, it is necessary to execute the tendency to participate, differentiate products, service and management, and attract customers. And the maintenance of competitive power is required to develop a new product, evaluate customer satisfaction, and improve decision making, problem solving and crisis management.

Impact of the Expansion of Private Brands on Korean Retail and Manufacturing

  • The private brands (PB) of corporate retailers are booming in Korea. This paper examines the effect of the rise of PB on Korean retail and manufacturing. By utilizing both store-level data and firm-level data, I find that the expansion of PB elevates the profits of corporate retailers but does not significantly affect, and in some cases even reduces, those of subcontracting manufacturers. This occurs not only because sales of national brands (NB) decline due to the launch of similar PBs but also because the imbalance in the bargaining positions of the two parties has caused retail margins to be set high while manufacturers' operating profits are set low. The paper provides policy recommendations for fair contracts and cooperative development between retail and manufacturing companies.

A Test on the Pecking Order Theory of Financing : Considering Chaebol Affiliation

  • This paper tests the validity of pecking order theory by Myers(1977) and Myers and Majluf(1984) on Korean manufacturing firms listed in the KRX for the years of 1994 to 2003. We also want to see if there is any difference in financing behavior between chaebol affiliated firms and non-chaebol affiliated firms. We develop testable hypotheses from the idea that established relationship between bank and firm mitigates the problem of information asymmetry (Kang and Lim, 2001), and thus makes it easier for firms to raise funds through banks. The test result of the first stage shows that firms prefer cash reserves to debt financing, and prefer debt to equity. Chaebol affiliated firms are found to behave as if they already exploit internal capital markets. The second stage of the test carried out by dividing debt capital into bank loans and corporate bonds also shows a consistent pattern of financing behavior. Firms are testified to prefer cash to bank loans, bank loans to corporate bonds, and corporate bonds to equity. In this case chaebol affiliation seems to make firms behave as if they already establish internal capital markets. Further analysis shows that some, though not in every case, difference of ordering around the occasion of Korean financial crisis exists. It may be from the change of attitude of Korean firms to risk, or from weakened influence of internal capital market along with strengthened market power in the post-crisis period.
