When a braun tube becomes wider, one of the major problems to be experienced is the non-uniform coating along the four diagonal directions on its surface. This non-uniformity in the coating thickness has a deep relation with the fluid flow on the surface of a braun tube. In order to control the fluid flow properly, we install the plate to block fluid flow at the corner of a braun tube. In the present study, we investigate the effects of the geometry of plate to control the fluid flow and coating uniformity and determine the optimal shape of plate to improve the quality of coating uniformity.
Heat engine and fluid machinery in the plant have to linked with various ducts network and the corresponding design have to be concerned about effectiveness and stability of system of plant. To optimum control and design system concerning stability, economization, operating effectiveness we have to exact analysis flow properties of a duct applying to fluid machinery, heat exchanger, cooling machine, air conditioning equipment. therefore, it is necessary to research the duct, heat transfer equipment, for increasing overall effectiveness of air conditioning system by suggesting basic data of the duct resulting from organic research. So we can contribute to technical development of the duct. In case of speeding up the flow rate of the duct, lots of wave velocity components are occurred the value of boundary layer resulting from developing the boundary layer at both walls of duct.
Aerodynamic characteristics of three-dimensional wings in ground effect for Aero-levitation Electric Vehicle(AEV) are numerically investigated for various fairing shapes at the junctions of 3D Wings. Numerical results show that a sizeable three-dimensional comer flow separation occurs with formation of an arch vortex at the junction of main and vertical wings, and also that this is predicted the main cause of the high lift-to-drag(L/D) reduction rate of the main wing. To avoid the comer flow separation, the main idea of this study is to reduce the cross section gradient of the comer flow tube near the trailing edge for various fairing shapes. Improvements on L/D ratios of the wings are pursued by breaking the coherence of superimposed adverse pressure gradients at the wing junction when the cross section gradient is changed slowly at the trailing edge.
This paper is concerned with the analysis of material flow characteristics of combined tube extrusion using pipe. The analysis in this paper concentrated on the evaluation of the design parameters for deformation patterns of tube forming, load characteristics, extruded length, and die pressure. The design factors such as punch nose radius, die corner radius, friction factor, and punch face angle are involved in the simulation. The combined tube extrusion is analyzed by using a commercial finite element code. This simulation makes use of pipe material and punch geometry on the basis of punch geometry recommended by International Cold Forging Group. Deformation patterns and its characteristics in combined forward and backward tube extrusion process were analyzed for forming loads with primary parameters, which are various punch nose radius relative to backward tube thickness. The results from the simulation show the flow modes of pipe workpiece and the die pressure at the contact surface between pipe workpiece and punch. The specific backward tube thickness and punch nose radius have an effect on extruded length in combined extrusion. The combined one step forward and backward extrusion is compared with the two step extrusion fer forming load and die pressure.
The objective of this study is to get simulation data about pulsatile flow of a non-Newtonian fluid through a bifurcated tube. All the process was based on CFD method, with a commercial FVM code, SC/Tetra ver. 6.0 for solving, and with CATIA R16 for generating geometries. To define a non-Newtonian fluid, the following viscous models are used; the Powell-Eyring model, the modified Powell-Eyring model, the Cross model, the modified Cross model, the Carreau model, the Carreau-Yasuda model and the modified Power Law model. The flow calculation data using each model were compared with the other data of a existing paper. Finally, the Carreau model was recognized to give the best result with the SC/Tetra code, and the succeeding simulations are made with the model. For the pulsating flow condition, the sine wave type velocity profile is given as the inlet boundary condition. To investigate the effect of geometries and mesh, the pre-test is carried out with various curvature conditions of the bifurcated corner, and then with various mesh conditions. The final process is to calculate flow variables such as the wall shear stress (WSS) and the wall shear stress gradient (WSSG). To validate all the result, the simulation is compared with the existing data of the other papers. Generally speaking, there is a noticeable difference in the maximum and minimum value of WSS. It is not sure that the values in each data are on the exactly same location. However, the overall trend is similar. The next study needs to investigate the same situation by experimental method. Furthermore, if the flow is simulated with more pulsatile conditions, more data of flow field through a bifurcated tube could be achieved.

An unexpected error is produced in calculating the transmission probability of a multipartite duct because of beam and shadow effects, if using a simple summation rule like the Oatley's equation. Particles moving in a tube are directed more or less towards the axis of the tube by the beam effect, and the length of a compound tube shortens virtually by the shadow effect originated from a reduction in the number of particles reaching the corner between two tubes of different cross-sections. Both effects make the transmission probability of the tube connected behind and consequently of the whole duct increase slightly. In this paper sources of the error in the calculation of the transmission probability are analyzed quantitatively and variations in the error depending on the dimensions of cylindrical tubes are calculated.
Multi-pass shape drawing is used to manufacture long products of arbitrary cross-sectional shapes. This process allows smooth surface finishes and closely controlled dimensions of the cross-sectional shape. Tube shape drawing for hollow type products provides material savings and weight reduction. The intermediate die shapes are very important in multi-pass tube shape drawing. In the current paper, the design method for the intermediate dies in a tube shape drawing process is developed using a die offset for corner filling (DOCF) method. Underfill defects are related to the radial velocity distribution of each divided section in the deformation zone. The developed intermediate die shape design was applied to the two-pass tube shape drawing with fixed mandrel for manufacturing a hollow linear motion (LM) guide rail. The proposed design method led to uniform and steady metal flow at each divided section. FE-simulations and experiments were conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in multi-pass tube shape drawing process.
Many studies of heat transfer on the swirling flow or unswirled flow in a abrupt pipe expansion are widely carried out. The mechanism is not fully found evidently due to the instabilities of flow in a sudden change of the shape and appearance of turbulent shear layers in a recirculation region and secondary vortex near the corner. The purpose of this study is to obtain data through an experimental study of the swirling flow and heat transfer downstream of an abrupt expansion in a circular pipe with uniform heat flux. Experiments were carried out for the turbulent flow nd heat transfer downstream of an abrupt circular pipe expansion. The uniform heat flux condition was imposed to the downstream of the abrupt expansion by using an electrically heated pipe. Experimental data are presented for local heat transfer rates and local axial velocities in the tube downstream of an abrupt 3:1 & 2:1 expansion. Air was used as the working fluid in the upstream tube, the Reynolds number was varied from 60, 00 to 120, 000 and the swirl number range (based on the swirl chamber geometry, i.e. L/d ratio) in which the experiments were conducted were L/d=0, 8 and 16. Axial velocity increased rapidly at r/R=0.35 in the abrupt concentric expansion turbulent flow through the test tube in unswirled flow. It showed that with increasing axial distance the highest axial velocities move toward the tube wall in the case of the swirling flow abrupt expansion. A uniform wall heat flux boundary condition was employed, which resulted in wall-to-bulk temperatures ranging from 24.deg. C to 71.deg. C. In swirling flow, the wall temperature showed a greater increase at L/d=16 than any other L/d. The bulk temperature showed a minimum value at the pipe inlet, it also exhibited a linear increase with axial distance along the pipe. As swirl intensity increased, the location of peak Nu numbers was observed to shift from 4 to 1 step heights downstream of the expansion. This upstream movement of the maximum Nusselt number was accompanied by an increase in its magnitude from 2.2 to 8.8 times larger than fully developed tube flow values.
In this study, simulation of weak shock waves are peformed by a two-dimensional thermal fluid or compressible fluid model of the lattice Boltzmann method. The shock wave represents an abrupt change in fluids properties, in which finite variations in pressure, internal energies, and density occur over the shock thickness. The characteristics of the proposed model with a simple distribution function is verified by calculation of the sound speeds, and the shock tube problem. The reflection of a weak shock wave by wedge propagating in a channel is performed. The results agree well with those by finite difference method or by experiment. In the simulation of unsteady shock wave diffraction around a sharp corner, we show a flow field of vortical structure near the comer.
