굴참나무 수피(樹皮)의 화학적(化學的) 성질(性質) (The Chemical Properties of the Oak Cork(Bark of Quercus variabilis Blume))

  • The rate of utilization of the oak cork (bark of Quercus variabilis Blume) ranges only 40-50%. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the chemical properties of the oak cork for increasing the utility. 1) The contents of alkali extractives, organic solvent extractives and ash in the oak cork are similar to those of other barks, but hot and cold water extractives and lignin contents are lower than those of the wood. The carbohydrate (cellulose and hemicellulose) content of the oak cork is similar to that of other barks. The suberin contents in the first and the second bark of the oak cork are 34.8 and 32.2% respectively, in the dry weight. 2) Inorganic component contents of the first bark are similar to those of the second. The pH of the first and the second bark are 3.9 and 4.2%. The caloric values of the first and second bark are 6,263 Kcal/kg, and 5,828 Kcal/kg, respectively, and these caloric values are higher than those of other barks. The sclerencymatous cell content of the first bark which is related to the quality of the oak cork is lower than that of second bark, the contents of the sclerenchymatous cell and lignin show the positive correlation. 3) In the dimension of the cross sectioned cork cell, the first bark is bigger than that of the second. The shape of the cork cell is globular shape in the early bark and discoid shape in the late bark. The cross and the radial section are the same shape, but the tangential section shows difference from the other section.

폐수의 인산염 제거를 위한 굴참나무수피의 활용 (Use of Cork Oak Bark for Phosphorous Removal from Wastewater)

  • The feasibility of using cork oak bark for phosphorus removal from wastewater was evaluated in this study. Recently, development of more cost-effective media while maintaining high efficiency in pollutants removal has received concern. Barks have a negative surface charge and, hence, tend to show a high affinity to bind cations, and they need to undergo chemical modification to increase their adsorption capacity of anions. Bark was hydrolyzed by HCl solution and it received modification using an aqueous solution of high molecular weight polyethylenimine(PEI). Surface modification with HCl and PEI resulted in a decrease of specific surface area of the bark from $1.932 m^2/g$ to $1.094 m^2/g$. The adsorption experiments were carried out in batch tests and the data were fitted to the Langmuir isotherm and Freundlich isotherm equations. Phosphate removal rate was higher at the lower solution pH possibly due to the form of phosphate ion in solution. For the initial phosphate concentration of 10 mg/L, maximum adsorption was 20.88 mg P/g at pH 3 and 12.02 mg P/g at pH 5. Mechanism of phosphorus sorption onto the HCl-PEI bark was examined through FT-IR spectrometer. Ion exchange between $NH^+$ and $H_2PO_4{^-}$ appeared to be a key mechanism of phosphate adsorption onto the HCl-PEI bark surface.

리그노셀룰로오스 섬유-기반 3층 섬유판과 한지로 구성된 실내외 대기 오염물질 정화용 필터세트의 개발 (Development of Filtering Sets Composed of Lignocellulosic Fiber-based 3-layers Fiberboard and Traditional Korean Paper for the Purification of Indoor and Outdoor Air Pollutants)

  • 본 연구는 리그노셀룰로오스 섬유와 굴참나무 수피-기반 활성탄(COA)으로 제조한 3층 섬유판에 한지를 조합하여 제작한 섬유판 필터세트의 미세먼지(PM), 휘발성 유기화합물(TVOC), 폼알데하이드(HCHO) 여과능을 조사하기 위하여 수행하였다. 단백질계 접착제를 적용하여 표층에 목섬유 그리고 심층에 재생섬유/COA로 제조한 섬유판(WRF)과 한지로 제작한 섬유판 필터세트는 일반향의 연소에 의하여 발생하는 상기 오염물질을 효과적으로 여과하였다. 섬유판 제조에 있어 표층/심층에 적용되는 접착제의 함지율을 4%/4%, 5%/3%, 6%/2%로 조절하여 WRF를 제조한 후, 이를 한지와 함께 WRF-기반 필터세트 제작에 이용하였다. 이 필터세트의 PM, TVOC, HCHO 여과능은 심층의 함지율이 감소함에 따라 향상되었다. 한편 WRF-기반 필터세트 구성에 있어 45 g/m2 평량의 한지보다 25 g/m2 평량의 한지(KP-25g)를 사용하여 제작한 필터세트에서 여과능이 우수하였다. 표층에 재생섬유와 심층에 목섬유/COA로 제조한 섬유판(RWF)과 KP-25g로 구성한 섬유판 필터세트의 여과능은 WRF와 비교하여 높았다. 소형 실내공간 및 대형 옥외공간에 WRF-기반 섬유판 필터세트 및 무필터 조건과 함께 측정한 PM 및 TVOC 여과능은 RWF-기반 섬유판 필터세트에서 높았다. 따라서 RWF와 KP-25g를 조합하여 제작한 섬유판 필터세트가 실내외 공간에 존재하는 PM, TVOC 여과용 필터로서 적용이 가능할 것으로 생각한다.
