  • The purpose of this study is modeling nursing competencies and reasoning out the core competencies, the ability for 20% of important actions for nursing jobs which can manage the rest 80% so that the competency-based nursing curriculum can be developed. A literature review of the vast studies regarding competencies was done to understand the concepts of competency-based curriculum, competency, and nursing competencies, identifying the relationships among each nursing competency categorized in accordance with those concepts. An exemplified concept map of core competencies for the competency-based nursing curriculum is suggested based on a thorough review of various competency modeling methodologies. The core competencies consist of base competency (theoretical/practical nursing knowledge and skills), practical competency (clinical judgment, patient education, communication, etc.), and personality competency (leadership, sense of responsibility, cooperation, etc.). The circular relationship among them can remain consistent through self-directed learning and critical thinking. Therefore, a nurse who have those core competencies is a knowledge worker, a self-directed learner, and also an effective, professional communicator. Further studies which solidify the concept of nursing competencies should be done, as well as the feedback procedures which evaluate the program outcomes and then reflect the evaluation results in the curriculum should be followed continuously.

For this purpose, the core competencies of adult college students were derived by analyzing domestic and foreign literature studies. And the Delphi survey was conducted for the validity of core competencies. The SPSS 18.0 program was used for analysis. As results of the analysis, there are 11 core competencies of adult college students derived: communication, problem-solving and meta, interpersonal, personal management and development, digital information literacy, major knowledge, citizenship, convergence, character, professional job, and global. The core competency model of adult college students was developed by assigning numbers from 01 to 11 based on the results of the Delphi survey. • Purpose: The study is to confirm the influence of self-efficacy, critical thinking disposition, self-leadership, and communication competency on the core competencies of the preceptor. Methods: Data were collected from August 27 to September 7, 2017 using structured questionnaires for 127 preceptors at a general hospital located in Korea. SPSS/Win 23.0 was used to analyze the frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean score of the core competencies of the preceptors was $3.94{\pm}0.35$ (range 1-5); self-efficacy was $3.88{\pm}0.49$; critical thinking disposition was $3.54{\pm}0.36$; self-leadership was $3.66{\pm}0.39$; communication competency was $3.71{\pm}0.35$. There were no statistically significant differences between the core competencies of the preceptor and general characteristics. The core competencies of the preceptors were significantly correlated with self-efficacy (r=.61, p<.001), critical thinking disposition (r=.69, p<.001), self-leadership (r=.59, p<.001), and communication competency (r=.58, p<.001). The core competencies of the preceptors were affected by critical thinking disposition (${\beta}=.54$, p<.001), followed by communication competency (${\beta}=.24$, p<.001). The explanatory power by the factors was 51% (F=63.66, p<.001). Conclusion: The results suggest that critical thinking disposition and communication competency are important predictors of the core competencies of the preceptors.

  • There was a great need to consider a core competency-based approach as a new direction of the science education for gifted students according to the value and vision of the 21st century knowledge-based societies. Therefore we developed a core competency model of scientist and examined its validity as a prerequisite for a core competency-based education of science gifted students. In order to this, the survey was conducted after developing questionnaire through the theoretical review of the various resources such as paper, book, and newspaper articles and the qualitative analysis of the behavioral event interview, and then an exploratory factor analysis was performed to validate the factor structure based on the results of the survey. The results revealed that the core competency model with the 5 cluster units of competency and the 15 core competencies was potentially constituted. And the reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity of the core competency model were verified through the confirmatory factor analysis. The cognitive cluster consisted of 5 competencies and they were as follows: creative, comprehensive, exploratory, analytical, and conceptual thinking competency. The achievement-orientation cluster consisted of 3 competencies and they were as follows: initiative, preparation & problem solving, and strategic influence competency. The scientific attitude cluster consisted of 3 competencies and they were as follows: flexible thinking & attitude, passion for research, and views about science competency. The personal effectiveness cluster consisted of 2 competencies and they were as follows: diverse experiences and global attitude competency. Finally, the networking cluster consisted of 2 competencies and they were as follows: personal understanding and communication competency. Findings were expected to provide the basic data for developing programs and establishing strategies based on the core competency as well as introducing the core competency model of scientist to science education for gifted students effectively.

  • Recently, competition in the interior remodeling business is fierce. However, the interior remodeling business is basically B2B, and in this business, sales are basically dictated by the capabilities of salespeople. Therefore, in this study, we intend to develop a model for the core competency of salespeople in the interior remodeling business. To this end, based on the research on the existing competency and competency modeling, the competency model of the salesperson was derived using Dubois' overlay method. A total of 12 core competencies could be defined through the first and second modeling. The subject of this study was focused on LG Hausys, the most representative interior remodeling company in Korea. Based on the core competencies developed in this way, overall sales competencies can be raised through the development of a training course to enhance the sales competencies of salespeople, and a more efficient and objective HR.

Methods: Three hundred two nurses participated in the study. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 20.0. Frequency, t-test, ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression were utilized. Results: The level of nurses' core competencies was 3.65 (${\pm}.40$) points, cognition of job competency of senior nurses was 4.02 (${\pm}.60$) points, and work performance was 4.04 (${\pm}.55$) points. In accordance with the participant's general characteristics, work performance was found to be significant in their age, marital status, educational level, total clinical experience, length of time on the present ward, and their income. Cognition of job competency of senior nurses was found to be the most effective factor in work performance, followed by core competencies and total clinical experience, and these factors accounted for 63.4%. Conclusion: The study suggested that work performance was highly affected by the nurses' core competencies and cognition of job competency of senior nurses.
