A Study on the Analysis of 89Sr and 90Sr with Cerenkov Radiation and Liquid Scintillation Counting Method (첼렌코프광과 액체섬광계수법을 이용한 89Sr 및 90Sr 분석에 대한 연구)

  • An accurate and simple analytical technique for $^{89}Sr$ and $^{90}Sr$, overcoming the demerits of the conventional method, has been developed with extraction chromatography and liquid scintillation counting. The Sr fraction was separated from hindrance elements with oxalate coprecipitation or cation exchange resin and purified with Sr-Spec column. With liquid scintillation counter, $^{89}Sr$ was measured by Cerenkov radiation method, and $^{90}Sr$ was measured by spectrum unfolding method. The developed radioactive strontium separation method was validated by application to the IAEA-reference material (IAEA-375, Soil) and radioactive waste samples.

Di(propylene glycol) Methylether (DPGME) Sensing Characteristics of SnO2-ZnO Sensor (SnO2센서의 ZnO 첨가량에 따른 di(propylene glycol) methylether (DPGME)에 대한 반응 특성)

  • Respectively the powder made of ZnO added $SnO_2$ was prepared by coprecipitation method and the thick film gas sensor was fabricated by screen-printing technique, The morphology and phase of the powder and film was investigated by SEM and XRD. The specific area of the particle was linearly increased with ZnO contents. Target gas was di(propylene glycol) methylether ($CH_3$($OC_3$$H_{6}$ )$_2$OH, DPGME), which is simulant gas of blister gas. The gas sensing characteristics for DPGME were examined with flow type measurement system and the concentrations of target gas were controlled from 500 ppb to 1500 ppb. ZnO (2 wt%) added $SnO_2$ showed maximum sensitivity to DPGME at $300^{\circ}C$.

Crystal and Block Structures of Hexagonal Ferrites (육방정 페라이트의 결정과 Block 구조)

  • It has been studied the crystal and block structures of the hexagonal ferrites with M, W, Y and Z types prepared by various coprecipitation-oxidation method. The structures have been refined with a Rietveld analysis of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern with high precision ($R_{WP}$ <0.09, $R_I$ <0.03). The density difference between the S-blocks was proportioned to the cobalt contents in hexagonal ferrites, but that between the R or T-blocks was relatively small. Compared with the blocks and cation-oxygen polyhedra in BaM ($BaFe_{12}O_{19}$), those were bulky to the normal direction for the c-axis in $Co_2W$ ($BaCo_2Fe_{16}O_{27}$) and to the parallel direction for the c-axis in $Co_2Y$ ($Ba_2Co_2Fe_{12}O_{22}$) and $Co_2Z$ ($Ba_3Co_2Fe_{24}O_{41}$). The S-blocks of $Co_2W$, $Co_2Y$, and $Co_2Z$ were unstable and distorted. Because the T-block of $Co_2Z$ was unstable, the T-block was decomposed into the Ba-rich phase and $Co_2W$ at high temperatures above $1200^{\circ}C$. A standard powder X-ray diffraction pattern for $Co_2Z$ was proposed as well.

  • The oxygen flux of SDC ($Sm_2O_3\;doped\;CeO_2$) solid electrolyte membranes with electronic and oxygen ion-ic conductivities has been investigated as a basic research in order to develop the conversion process of na-tural gas to syngas using the ceramic membrane reactor. Tube type membranes(1 mm thickness) were fa-bricated by slip casting of SDC powders prepared by the oxalate coprecipitaion method. Dense oxygen per-meation membranes(0.1 mm thickness) could be synthesized via sintering at $1450^{\circ}C$ for 2h and their re-lative density was over 95% The oxygen flux through SDC membranes doped 20mol% $Sm_15$ was about $1.13{\times}10^{-5}\;mol/m_2{\cdot}sec$ at low temperature around $800^{\circ}C$. In addition the SDC membranes showed a good thermaal stability for a long period of service.

  • A method to determine the trace level of arsenic in scalp hair by the hydride generation(HG)-inductively coupled plasma(ICP) spectrometry is described. The optimum conditions for the generation of arsine($AsH_3$), and the interference effects from the concomitant ions were studied. Severe interference effect from Ni(II) is circumvented by the coprecipitation of arsenic with $La(OH)_3$. The detection limit of arsenic is 0.3ppm and the arsenic contents in scalp hair ranged 10~20ppb.

  • A $Ba_{2}Co_{2-x}Zn_{x}Fe_{12}O_{22}(x\;=\;0.0~2.0,\;Co_{2-x}Zn_{x}Y)$ powder was prepared by a oxidation--coprecipitation method and sintered at $1150~1250^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. The microstructures and magnetic properties(saturation magnetization, Curie temperature), complex permeability of sintered body were measured As increasing Zn content from x = 0 to 2.0 in $Co_{2-x}Zn_{x}Y$, the real value of complex permeased from 7 GHz to 1 GHz. Because of resonance in few GHz range, Y-type hexagonal ferrite is rmre applicalble than spinel ferrite in high frequency range, and more research would be necessary to find the mechanism of the second resonance observed in higher frequency.

Selective DNA Adsorption on Layered Double Hydroxide Nanoparticles

  • We investigated the selective deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) adsorption on layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoparticles via studying the interaction between positively charged LDH nanoparticle as adsorbent and negatively charged adsorbates such as methyl orange (MO), fluorescein (FL), and DNA strands. The size controlled LDH $(Mg_{0.78}Al_{0.22}(OH)_2(CO_3)_{0.11}{\cdot}mH_2O)$ was prepared by conventional coprecipitation method, followed by the hydrothermal treatment. According to the adsorption isotherms, the adsorbed amounts of MO and FL were similar, however, that of DNA were much larger. The adsorption behaviors were well fitted to Freundlich adsorption model. The concentration dependent adsorption behavior on LDH surface was described in order to verify the selective DNA separation ability. The result showed that the LDH has advantages in selective adsorption of DNA competing with single molecular anions.

Effects of Composition on Magnetic Hyperfine Field of Acicular Fe-Co Alloy Particles (침상형 Fe-Co 합금입자에서 조성이 초미세자기장에 미치는 효과)

  • Acicular Fe-Co alloy particles are one of the candidates for high-density magnetic recording media. We examined the effects of Co additions on the magnetic properties of Fe-Co alloy particles by using M$\'{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy, TEM, and X-ray diffraction. Acicular $Fe_n$Co (n=5, 4, 3, 2) alloy particles coated with silica, were prepared by a chemical coprecipitation method and subsequent H $_2$ reduction. The crystal structure was found to be cubic in all n ranges. The lattice constant $a_0$ decreases with increasing Co contents. Analysis of $^{57}Fe$ M\'{o}$ssbauer effect data in terms of the local configurations of Co atoms has permitted the influence of magnetic hyperfine interactions to be monitored.

  • Magnetite in the use of magnetic fluid seal was synthesized by coprecipitation method. Mean particle size of magnetite was measured about 12 nm by using dynamic light scattering(DLS). As a result of XRD test, along with the $NH_4OH$ concentration was increased, the crystallinity of magnetite was increased. The zeta potential of dispersed ferrofluid in water was measured in the range from -49.3 mV to -26.2 mV by DLS. The shape of magnetite particle was sphere form, and the spiking effect of aqueous and oily ferrofulid was confirmed.

  • The crystallization behavior and structural change of amorphous $PbTiO_{3}$ precursors prepared by coprecipitation method were investigated by XRD, Raman spectra, TEM, and RDF. The precursors were prepared at $45^{\circ}C$ and pH of 9 from a mixed solution of lead nitrate and titanium tetrachloride derived using $H_2O_2$ or $NH_4NO_3$ as an ion stabilizer. The activation energy and temperature for crystallization of the coprecipitate prepared using $NH_4NO_3$ as an ion stabilizer were lower than that derived from the solution containing $H_2O_2$ stabilizer. The amorphous coprecipitate transformed to transient phase and then to crystalline $PbTiO_{3}$. Average interatomic distances of amorphous states decreased with increasing heat-treatment temperature.
