This study attempted to examine how participation in a cooperative learning extracurricular program affects the improvement of college students' self-directed learning abilities. In order to operate a cooperative learning extracurricular program, students were recruited voluntarily through the school system. A total of 128 students were selected. They formed groups according to the number of participants and participated in the cooperative learning extracurricular program for 9 weeks. Before the program was implemented and after the program was terminated, a survey was conducted on the self-directed learning ability of participating students through a questionnaire. The effectiveness of the program was examined through pre-post tests of the experimental group. The results are as follow. First, the self-directed learning ability scores of students who participated in the cooperative learning extracurricular program significantly improved. Second, in order to closely analyze self-directed learning ability, the sub-elements of self-directed learning ability were examined, and the scores of self-awareness and learning strategy, which are sub-elements of self-directed learning ability, were found to have significantly increased. However, although scores for learning motivation and learning situations improved, the levels were not found to be statistically significant. Based on these results, we presented discussions for improving college students' self-directed learning ability and ways to revitalize cooperative learning in universities.

Purpose: We analyzed the characteristics of women who gave birth at an obstetrician and those who received oriental medicine postpartum care, and investigated the level of their satisfaction to obtain fundamental data for Oriental-Western cooperative medicine treatment for postpartum care. Methods: The review was based on a 5-months' data, from August 1 through December 31, 2009. Information on age, labor record, level of education, and occupation of the patients who had received postpartum oriental-western cooperative medicine treatment was based on Electric Medical Record(EMR) of O O Oriental Medicine Hospital. The questionnaires were completed by the patients at the time of their discharge from the hospital. Results: The patients who were admitted to oriental medicine hospitals tended to be primiparae, and they were more likely to be younger women with higher education levels. The level of satisfaction on postpartum care program of oriental medicine hospitals was high. Conclusion: It is necessary to specialize the facilities, dietary formula, and staff training of oriental medicine hospitals through a survey of postpartum patients' demand and satisfaction level. In oriental-western cooperative medicine hospitals, it is needed to specialize the postpartum program for creating demand of premature delivery mothers.
Debt and credit problems in Korea have been escalated during the past decade. The number of people with debt and credit problems is in its historic high. In May 2008, about 2.48 million debtors are officially classified as bad debtors and 7.20 million people have low credit scores. People with low credit scores are in disadvantageous situation in the financial market thus their financial transactions and activities are limited. In 2004, Korean government introduced various credit rehabilitation programs. However, most of these problems are remedial in nature and preventive programs such as credit counseling and debtor education are lacking. The purpose of this review is to examine US credit counseling and debtor education programs to obtain insights for preventive credit program developments in Korea. The review focused on programs offered through National Foundation for Credit Counseling, Jump Start, and Cooperative Extension Services from two large land grant Universities. From the program review suggestions and recommendations for educational contents, program and educator developments, and program quality control were discussed.

To examine the effect of creativity and scientific attitude by the program, 40 students of elementary science gifted children group in the Busan national university of education were selected for an experimental group. The review result is that, Firstly, the program affected positively creativity improvement of elementary science gifted children, Secondly, the program affects positively scientific attitude improvement of them as well. In conclusion, the program affects positively their creativity and scientific attitude.
There has been increasing evidence of the positive effects in informal science programs to promote the youths' positive development. However, relatively a small number of informal science programs target specific student populations such as youth in poverty with little research done about the important program factors. This case study presents an exemplary informal science education program (focusing on Earth Science Education or more specifically, water in urban environments) for youth in poverty in a midwest city of the United States. This study explored the most important characteristics of the program that could lead to positive development for the youth. Through a number of observations of the program and interviews with the participants, this study employs inductive and interpretive research methods. Findings show that the program managers' beliefs about the youths' knowledge and experiences, their relationship building skills, and their cooperative work are very important. A concrete mission for the program and structured institutional support to hire the youth as paid museum staff are also important in assuming their responsibility and building identity as an active social member.
The 21st century is called as the "Age of knowledge flood", and thus the importance of the ability which can use knowledge creatively is more emphasized. Also, not only individual problem solving but also solving problems through effective communication skills with group members are needed, and therefore, it is requested to train potential gifted learner working together with others to practice cooperation and eventually grown up as a competitive human resource to adapt successfully in future environment. In this paper, to show the effectiveness of cooperative learning in gifted learners, members for cooperative learning group has been selected using whole brain theory from the 42 gifted middle school students who participated in summer gifted learner vacation program. From the analysis of the learners' learning motivation and frequency of interactions whole brain based cooperative learning is effective for enhancing both learning motivation and interactions. Therefore, the whole brain based cooperative learning is an effective pedagogy for enhancing the motivation as well as facilitating interactions within gifted learners.
The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of mathematical disposition and attitude through the foster self-confidence and learning motivation by STAD cooperative learning. In this paper, Capstone Design Education Program Learning Model was developed and recommended in order to foster convergent talents armed with practical competences and real cooperative capabilities. In this era of convergence and creativity, the fashion world needs human resources with cooperative skills and true professional abilities. A case analysis, an in-depth interview, and 1,2 test method were used for data acquisition and analysis. The summary of this study is described below. First, this program needs to complement the NCS fashion design learning module. Second, material changes to creativity and practical competencies - knowledge, skills, and attitudes - of the students are assessed after applying Capstone Design to the NCS fashion design learning model. Third, the process of converging fashion curriculum with IT and electronic technology, developing a fashion design learning program, and applying the Capstone Design was tested to prove the effectiveness of convergent fashion design education. Among the changes observed between the trial and control groups, it was confirmed that sub-factors of creative personality, i.e. self-assurance and openness, were increased along with knowledge, core competences including communication capability, and self-directed learning capability. The greatest improvement on the technological side was observed in IT literacy while ability to respond to changes was also increased. Besides, effects were demonstrated in behavioral factors such as initiative, spirit of challenge, experience, and openness. Lastly, the Capstone Design Education Program Learning Model was proposed in order to foster convergent talents in the fashion world.
This study introduces the development and application of instructional materials for a micro-UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) design and manufacturing program in university education for freshman/sophomore students. The ADDIE methodology was applied to the development of educational materials, which consist of 15 lessons including the aircraft design theory, 3D CAD modeling, 3D printing production, and UAV flight control. The validity of the program was evaluated with 8 expert panels. A total of 82 participants from engineering and social science grouped the 16 teams for the creative UAV wing design and cooperative interactions. The results of overall program satisfaction survey was measured highly as the average 4.54 (out of 5), so that the students were content with the professional engineering knowledge, 3D digital tools, and the opportunity to design and manufacture airplanes on their own. In conclusion, it can be confirmed that the developed program is effective for UAV education for junior level college student.
We explored the possibilities of science field experience in Jongmyo Shrine in this study. To understand the educational value of self-leading science activities in Jongmyo Shrine, one of the World Heritage, we developed science program and applied it to the elementary students participating in a gifted education center. We collected and analyzed various data of opinionnaire survey before and after the program, field activity sheets, field observation, and individual- and group interview. The results showed the lack of students' spatial ability and proposed educational interests in science education. Also, a lot of students felt the difficulty in applying school science knowledge into the real life context. Students found the meaning of science learning through cooperative activities in the historically meaningful place. A proper use of smart device in science field experience was recommended. We found that activities with too much smart device might impede various scientific process skills.
