Optimization study was conducted for preparation of uncompressed soy protein isolate(SPI) tofu in the aspects of water addition ratio, second heating temperature and amounts of oil and dextrin added. The SPI tofu was prepared without compression step with SPI-oil-dextrin mixture and $CaSO_4-GDL$ mixed coagulants. The data were statistically analyzed by multiple regresstion and response surface methodology(RSM). Addition of dextrin increased the hardness of tofu, particularly for the second heating at $85^{\circ}C$ and 8 times of water to SPI. RSM figure showed that the effect of dextrin on hardness became to be less as the heating temperature increased. The hardness increase effect was no significant except addition of 25% oil and 8 times of water and second heating at $85^{\circ}C$. The addition of 25% oil and $10{\sim}15%$ dextrin and second heating at $90^{\circ}C$ for $45{\sim}60$ minutes resulted hardness and cohesive tofu. The optimal method proposed for uncompressed SPI tofu on the basis of textural and sensory properties was first heating of homogenized SPI-oil-dextrin(100:25:15) with addition of 8 times of water(on the basis of SPI) at $100^{\circ}C$ for 6 minutes, cooling to $40^{\circ}C$, additon of mixed coagulants of $CaSO_{4}-GDL$(0.07 g, 0.0075 g/SPI) and second heating at $90^{\circ}C$ for 45 minutes.
The experiments were carried out to elucidate the varietal variation of retrogradation in aged cooked rice and its association with some physicochemical properties of milled rice. The fifteen rice materials were selected from forty-three low-amylose japonica and Tongil-type rice cultivars based on palatability and retrogradation of cooked rice stratified by preliminary sensory evaluation of warm and cooled cooked rice. One japonica glutinous rice variety was included for comparison of retrogradation of cooked rice. The $\alpha$-amylase-iodine method was adopted for checking the varietal difference in retrogradation of cooked rice. The desirable checking time for evaluating the varietal difference in deterioration of aged cooked rice was four hours after storing in room temperature and two hours after preserving in refrigerator based on the largest coefficients of variations in degree of retrogradation of cooked rice. The rice cultivars revealing the relatively slow retrogradation in aged cooked rice were Ilpumbyeo, Chucheongbyeo, Sasanishiki, Jinbubyeo and Koshihikari. A Tongil-type rice, Taebaegbyeo, and a japonica cultivar, Seomjinbyeo, showed the relatively fast deterioration of cooked rice. The retrogadation index represented by the percentage of retrogradation difference between warm and cooled cooked rice to original estimates of warm cooked rice was significantly affected by the degree of retrogradation of cooled cooked rice. Generally, the better rice cultivars in eating quality of cooked rice showed less retrogradation and much sponginess in cooled cooked rice. Also, the rice varieties exhibiting less retrogradation in cooled cooked rice revealed higher hot viscosity and lower cool viscosity of rice flour in amylogram. The sponginess of cooled cooked rice was closely associated with magnesium content and volume expansion of cooked rice. The hardness-changed ratio of cooked rice by cooling was negatively correlated with solids amount extracted during boiling and volume expansion of cooked rice. The major physicochemical properties of rice grain closely related to the palatability of cooked rice may be directly or indirectly associated with the retrogradation characteristics of cooked nce. The varietal difference in retrogradation of cooked rice can be effectively classified by scatter diagram on the plane of upper two principal components based on some retrogradation properties of cooked rice. The deteriorated structural change in cooled cooked rice by observing through the scanning electron microscope was more conspicuous in the fastly retrograded cooked rice than in the slower one.

Recently, the effects of high temperature on compressive strength, elastic modulus and strain at peak stress of high strength concrete were experimentally investigated. The present study is aimed to study the effect of elevated temperatures ranging from 20 to 700 on the material mechanical properties of high strength concrete of 40, 60, 80 MPa grade. In this study, the types of test were the stressed test and stressed residual test that the specimens are subjected to a 25% of ultimate compressive strength at room temperature and sustained during heating and when target temperature is reached, the specimens are loaded to failure. And another specimens are loaded to failure after 24 hour cooling time. Tests were conducted at various temperatures ($20{\sim}700^{\circ}C$) for concretes made with W/B ratios 46%, 32% and 25%. Test results showed that the relative values of compressive strength and elastic modulus decreased with increasing compressive strength grade of specimen and the axial strain at peak stress were influenced by the load before heating. Thermal strain of concrete at high temperature was affected by the preload level as well as the compressive strength. Finally, model equation for compressive strength and elastic modulus of heated high strength concrete proposed by result of this study.

Thermal stress of livestock has been issued due to recent climate change trends and this causes reproductive disorders, decreased feed consumption, immunosuppression, and increased mortality of animals. Concept of THI has been widely used to quantitatively evaluate the degree of thermal stress for animals, however use of this concept is restricted for animals living in the enclosed facilities such as mechanically ventilated broiler houses. In this study, time-based internal energy flow and variation trends of temperature and humidity were analyzed based on BES technique. Local weather data, insulation characteristics of building materials, heat and moisture generation rate from broilers according to age, algorithm of ventilation operation were adopted for boundary condition of the model to accurately compute THI values inside the mechanically ventilated broiler house. From the BES computation, excess frequency of THI threshold in Jeju city was highest on the assumption that air conditioning equipments were not installed. When general raising density ($39kg\;m^{-2}$) was adopted, total 2,191 hours were exceeded. Excess hours of THI threshold were strongly related to the cumulative air temperature ($R^2=0.87$).

3D printing is an additive manufacturing technology that can produce complex shapes in a single process for a range of materials, such as polymers, ceramics, and metals. Recent 3D printing technology has developed to a level that enables the mass-production through an improvement of the printing speed and the continuous development of applicable materials. In this study, 3D printing technology using a laser was applied to manufacture a heat exchanger for an air compressor in a railway vehicle. First, the optimal design of the heat exchanger was carried out by focusing on weight reduction and compactness as a shape suitable for 3D printing. Based on the design derived, heat exchanger prototypes were made of AlSi10Mg alloy material by applying the SLM technique. Moreover, the manufactured prototypes were attached to an existing air compressor, and the heat exchange performance of the compressed air was tested. The test results of the 3D printed prototypes showed a heat exchange performance of approximately 80% and 85% at low and high-pressure, respectively, compared to the existing heat exchanger. From the 𝓔-NTU method results with an external cooling air condition similar to that of the existing heat exchanger, the calculated heat transfer amount of 3D printed parts showed similar performance compared to the existing heat exchanger. As a result, the 3D printed heat exchanger is lightweight with good performance.

SCR technology, which uses urea-water as a NOx reducing agent, has been widely used to reduce NOx in marine diesel engines. However, as an alternative NOx reducing agent, solid-phase ammonium carbamate has several advantages, such as low-temperature NOx reduction performance and NH3 storage capacity. This study presents a method for evaluating the purity of ammonium carbamate using EA, FTIR, and XRD to investigate the change in the material characteristics of ammonium carbamate when it is exposed to various temperature and pressure conditions. In this study, it was found that the purity of ammonium carbamate can be effectively evaluated via EA analysis. The FTIR analysis results confirmed that the properties of ammonium carbamate did not change even after repeated heating and cooling under thermal decomposition temperature conditions, which may be applied to the SCR system of marine diesel engines. Additionally, it was found that when ammonium carbamate was exposed to the atmosphere for a long time, it transformed into ammonium carbonate.

The performance of lithium ion batteries used in electric vehicles (EV) varies greatly depending on the battery temperature. In this paper, the finite difference method was used to evaluate the temperature change, state of charge (SOC), internal resistance, and voltage change of the battery due to heat generation in the battery. The simulation model was linked with AMESim to calculate the driving range of an EV traveling in New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) mode. As the temperature dropped below $25^{\circ}C$, the internal resistance of the battery increased, which increased the amount of heat generated and decreased the driving range of EV. At battery temperatures above $25^{\circ}C$, the driving range was also decreased due to reduced SOC that deteriorated the battery performance. The battery showed optimal performance and the driving range was maximized at $25^{\circ}C$. When battery temperatures of $-20^{\circ}C$ and $45^{\circ}C$, the driving range of EV decreased by 33% and 1.8%, respectively. Maintaining the optimum battery temperature requires heating the battery at low temperature and cooling it down at high temperature through efficient battery thermal management. Approximately 500 W of heat should be supplied to the battery when the ambient temperature is $-20^{\circ}C$, while 250 W of heat should be removed for the battery to be maintained at $25^{\circ}C$.

We consider design factors for a SQUID sensor array to construct a 52-channel magnetocardiogram (MCG) system that can be used to measure tangential components of the cardiac magnetic fields. Nowadays, full-size multichannel MCG systems, which cover the whole signal area of a heart, are developed to improve the clinical analysis with high accuracy and to provide patients with comfort in the course of measurement. To design the full-size MCG system, we have to make a compromise between cost and performance. The cost is involved with the number of sensors, the number of the electronics, the size of a cooling dewar, the consumption of refrigerants for maintenance, and etc. The performance is the capability of covering the whole heart volume at once and of localizing current sources with a small error. In this study, we design the cost-effective arrangement of sensors for MCG by considering an adequate sensor interval and the confidence region of a tolerable localization error, which covers the heart. In order to fit the detector array on the cylindrical dewar economically, we removed the detectors that were located at the corners of the array square. Through simulations using the confidence region method, we verified that our design of the detector array was good enough to obtain whole information from the heart at a time. A result of the simulation also suggested that tangential-component MCG measurement could localize deeper current dipoles than normal-component MCG measurement with the same confidence volume; therefore, we conclude that measurement of the tangential component is more suitable to an MCG system than measurement of the normal component.
Cardioplegia and myocardial protection were performed under cardiopulmonary bypass during open-heart surgery with the use of cold St. Thomas Hospital cardioplegic solution [4=C] for the coronary artery perfusion and normal saline solution [4- C] for the topical cardiac cooling. To maintain the state of myocardial protection, coronary artery reperfusion was carried out using St. Thomas Hospital cardioplegic solution at the interval of 30 minutes. A total number of patients studied were 57 cases, including 37 cases of correction for congenital cardiac anomalies and 20 cases for acquired heart valvular diseases. Cardiopulmonary bypass time during the surgery was observed to be average of 87.89*47.55 hours, aortic cross-clamping time to be average of 76.68~44.27 hours raging from 30 to 191 minutes. In order to evaluate the effects of myocardial protection in the surgery, serum enzyme levels were determined. To observe the relationship between aortic cross-clamping time and myocardial protection effects, patients studied were divided into the following 3 groups. I group: aortic cross-clamping time, 60 minutes, II group: aortic cross-clamping time, 90 minutes, III group: aortic cross-clamping time, over 91 minutes. 1. Changes in serum enzyme levels in postoperative period. [1] SCOT; The postoperative value [increased over 200 units] for ischemic myocardial injury during operation was observed in 11 cases [19.3% of the total] of the total patients studied, of which 4 cases [13.3%] in I group, 1 case [10.0%] in II group, and 6 cases [35.3%] in III group. [2] LDH; The positive value [increased over 900 units] for ischemic myocardial injury during operation was observed in 9 cases [15.7% of the total] of the total patients studied, of which 2 cases [6.6%] in I group, 1 case [10.0%] in II group, and 6 cases [35.3%] in III group. [3] CPK; The positive value [increased over 800 units] for ischemic myocardial injury during operation was observed in 10 cases [17. 5% of the total] of the total patients studied, including 4 cases [13. 3%] in I group, 1 case [10.0%] in II group, and 5 cases [29.4%] in III group. 2. The myocardial protection method used in the present study was demonstrated to be effective for the myocardial protection in the surgery with aortic cross-clamping time of up to 90 minutes. A few ischemic myocardial injury were observed in the surgery with aortic cross-clamping time over 91 minutes, but no significant cardiac dysfunction was noted. The surgery with aortic cross-clamping time of up to 191 minutes did not appear to give rise any significant interference with postoperative recovery.
Hypertermia for the treatment of cancer has been introduced for a long time and the biological effect for the use of hyperthermia to treat malignant tumors has been well established and encouraging clinical results have been obserbed. Unfortunately, however, the engineering or technical aspects of hyperthermia for the deep seated tumors has not been satisfactory. We developed the radiofrequency capactive hyperthermia device (Greenytherm-GY8) in cooperation with Yonsei Cancer Center and Green Cross Medical Corporation. It was composed with $8{\sim}10MHz$ RF generator, capacitive electrode, matching system, cooling system, temperature measuring system and control PC computer. The thermal profile was investigated in agar phantom, animals and in human tumors, heated with capactivie RF device. Deep and homogeneous heating could be achieved in a large phantom of 25cm diameter and 19cm thick when heated with a pair of 23cm diameter electrodes, coupled to both bases of the phantom, when the size of the two electrodes was not the same, the region near the smaller electrode was preferentially heated. It was, therefore, possible to control the depth of heating by choosing proper size of electrodes. Therapeutic temperature $(42^{\circ}C{\sim}43^{\circ}C)$ could be obtained in the living animal experiments. Indications are that deep heating of humn tumors might be achieved with the capacitive method, provided that subcutaenous fat layer is cooled by temperature controlled bolus and large size of electrodes.
