MIRIS (Multipurpose Infra-Red Imaging System), is a small infrared space telescope which is being developed by KASI, as the main payload of Science and Technology Satellite 3 (STSAT-3). Two wideband filters (I and H) of the MIRIS enables us to study the cosmic infrared background by detecting the absolute background brightness. The narrow band filter for Paschen ${\alpha}$ emission line observation will be employed to survey the Galactic plane for the study of warm ionized medium and interstellar turbulence. The opto-mechanical design of the MIRIS is optimized to operate around 200K for the telescope, and the cryogenic temperature around 90K for the sensor in the orbit, by using passive and active cooling technique, respectively. The engineering and qualification model of the MIRIS has been fabricated and successfully passed various environmental tests, including thermal, vacuum, vibration and shock tests. The flight model was also assembled and is in the process of system optimization to be launched in 2012 by a Russian rocket. The mission operation scenario and the data reduction software is now being developed. After the successful mission of FIMS (the main payload of STSAT-1), MIRIS is the second Korean space telescope, and will be an important step towards the future of Korean space astronomy.

The arrangement of encapsulated Ar atoms in the molecular-dimensioned cavities of fully dehydrated zeolite A of unit-cell composition $Cs_3Na_8HSi_{12}Al_{12}O_{48}$ ($Cs_3$-A) has been studied crystallographically to probe the confinement effect of guest species in microporous environment. Atoms of Ar were encapsulated in the cavities of $Cs_3$-A by treatment with 410 atm of Ar at $400^{\circ}C$ for two days, followed by cooling at room temperature. The crystal structure of $Cs_3Na_8H$-A(4Ar) ($P_e$ = 410 atm, $a=12.245(2){\AA}$, $R_1=0.0543$, and $R_2=0.0552$) has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique in the cubic space group $Pm\bar{3}m$ at 21 (1) $^{\circ}C$ and 1 atm. Encapsulated Ar atoms are distributed in three crystallographic distinct positions: 1.5 Ar atoms per unit cell opposite 6-rings, 1.5 opposite four-rings in the large cavity, and finally 1.0 in the sodalite-unit. The possible structures of argon clusters, such as $Ar_2$, $Ar_3$, and $Ar_4$, are proposed.

The effect of periodic passing wake on the film-coolant flow issuing normally from a flat plate was investigated experimentally. The passing wake was generated by rotating thin circular bars. Depending on the rotational direction the test plate could be simulated as a pressure surface or a suction surface of a gas turbine blade. The phase-averaged velocity components were measured using an X-type hot-wire probe. The Reynolds number based on the free-stream velocity and injection hole diameter was 23, 500 and the velocity ratio which is the ratio of film coolant velocity to free-stream velocity was 0.5. The velocity-triangle induced by the wake was similar to that induced by the one generated at the blade trailing edge. The vertical velocity component induced by the passing wake, which approaches to the suction surface and moves away from the pressure surface, played a dominant role in the variation of the flow field. The variation in the phase-averaged velocity on the pressure surface was greater than on the suction surface, but the turbulence kinetic energy variation on the suction surface appeared larger than on the pressure surface.

In this work, laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is used to investigate soil samples collected from different desert areas of Riyadh city in Saudi Arabia. Both qualitative analysis and plasma parameters are studied via the observed LIBS spectra. These experiments have been done using a Spectrolaser-7000 system with 50 mJ fundamental wavelength of Nd:YAG laser and detection delay time of 1 microsecond. Many spectral lines are highly resolved for many elements like Al, Fe, Mg, Si, Mn, Na, Ca and K. The electron temperatures Te and electron densities Ne, for the constituent of generated LIBS plasma, are determined for all the collected samples. It is found that both Te and Ne vary from one desert area to other. This variation is due to the change of the elemental concentration in different desert areas that affects the sample's matrices. Time dependent measurements have also been performed on the soil samples. While the signal-to-base ratio (SBR) reached its optimal value at 1 microsecond, the plasma parameters Ne and Te reach values of $4{\times}10^{17}cm^{-3}$ and 9235 K, respectively, at 2.5 microsecond. The later indicate that the plasma cooling processes are slow in comparison to the previously observed results for metallic samples. The observed results show also that in the future it is possible to enhance the exploitation of LIBS in the remote on-line environmental monitoring application, by following up only the values of Ne and Te for one element of the soil desert sample using an optical fiber probe.
High voltage impulse (HVI) has been gained attention as an alternative technique that could control the CaCO3 scale problems encountered in water main, pipe, cooling tower and heat exchanger vessels. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of electric field (E) and contact time (t) of HVI on reduction of Ca2+ concentration at two different temperatures of 25℃ and 60℃. A kinetic model on the effect of E and t was investigated too. As the E and t increased, the Ca2+ concentration decreased more than that of the control (= no HVI). The Ca2+ concentration decreased up to 81% at 15 kV/cm at 60℃, which was nearly 2 times greater than the control. With these experimental data-set of reduction of Ca2+ concentration under different E and t, the kinetic model was developed. The relationship between E and t required to reduce the concentration of Ca2+ by 30% was modeled at each temperature. The empirical model equations were; E0.83· t = 60.3 at 25℃ and E0.08· t = 1.1 at 60℃. These equations state the products of En and t is always constant, which means that the required contact time can be reduced in accordance with the increment of E and vice versa.

In Korea, attention is being paid to the use of renewable energy in the livestock industry, and Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP), which is advantageous for temperature control, is considered as one of the ways to reduce the use of fossil fuels. But GSHP is expensive to install, which proper capacity calculation is required. GSHP capacity is related to its maximum energy load. Energy loads are affected by climate characteristics and time, so dynamic analysis is required. In this study, the optimal capacity of GSHP was calculated by calculating the heating and cooling load of pig farms using BES (Building Energy Simulation) and economic analysis was performed. After designing the inside of the pig house using TRNSYS, one of the commercial programs of the BES technique, the energy load was calculated based on meteorological data. Through the calculated energy load, three heating devices and GSHP used in pig farms were analyzed for economic feasibility. As a result, GSHP's total cost of ownership was the cheapest, but the installation cost was the highest. In order to reduce the initial cost of GSHP, the capacity of GSHP was divided, and a scenario was created in which some of it was used as an auxiliary heating device, and economic analysis was conducted. In this study, a method to calculate the proper capacity of GSHP through dynamic energy analysis was proposed, and it can be used as data necessary to expand the spread of GSHP.
Background and Objectives The ultimate goal in current skin rejuvenation practice is to achieve a good result with minimal pain and downtime. Nonablative skin rejuvenation (NSR) is one technique. The efficacy of the long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser (LPNDY) has not been assessed in NSR. Materials and Methods Three target areas were selected (bilateral cheeks and glabellar region) in six volunteer subjects. A LPNDY with an integral skin temperature monitor delivered three stacked shots to each target area (1064 nm, 12 mm spot, 13 J/cm2, 1 Hz) without any skin cooling or anesthesia. The skin temperature was recorded before, during, and after each set of shots using the system monitor and in real-time using a high-sensitivity (±0.001℃) near-infrared video camera. The skin reaction was observed with the naked eye, and pain and discomfort were assessed by the subjects during and after treatment. Results The subjects reported a mild feeling of heat with no discomfort during or after the test treatments. Mild erythema was observed around the treatment areas, without noticeable edema. A series of three ascending skin temperature stepwise peaks, with a decrease in skin temperature towards the baseline after the third shot, was observed consistently. The mean temperatures for shots 1, 2, and 3 for the cheeks were 39.5℃, 42.0℃, and 44.4℃, respectively, and for the glabella, 40.8℃, 43.9℃, and 46.2℃, respectively. Similar ranges were indicated on the system integral temperature monitor. Conclusion A set of three stacked pulses with the LPNDY at a low fluence achieved ideal dermal temperatures to achieve some dermal remodeling but without any downtime or adverse events. The temperature data from the integral thermal sensor matched the video camera measurements with practical accuracy for skin rejuvenation requirements. These data suggest that LPNDY would satisfy the necessary criteria to achieve effective NSR, but further studies will be needed to assess the actual results in clinical practice.

There are excessively hot units of a microprocessor in today's nano-scale process technology, which are called hotspots. Hotspots' heat dissipation is not perfectly conquered by mechanical cooling techniques such as heatsink, heat spreader, and fans; Hence, an architecture-level temperature simulation of microprocessors is evident experiment so that designers can make reliable chips in high temperature environments. However, conventional thermal simulators cannot be used in temperature evaluation of real machine, since they are too slow, or too coarse-grained to estimate overall system models. This paper proposes methodology of monitoring accurate runtime temperature with Hotspot[4], and introduces its implementation. With this tool, it is available to track runtime thermal behavior of a microprocessor at architecture-level. Therefore, Dynamic Thermal Management such as Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling technique can be verified in the real system.

Aluminum alloy sheets, compared to conventional steel sheets, face challenges in press forming due to their lower elongation. To enhance their formability, extensive research has focused on forming technologies at elevated temperatures, specifically warm forming at around 300℃ and hot forming at approximately 500℃. This study proposes that the formability of aluminum alloy sheets can be significantly enhanced using a multi-stage hot forming technique. The research also investigates whether the strength of the A6061 aluminum alloy, known for its precipitation hardening, can be maintained when formed below the precipitate solid solution temperature. In the experiments, the A6061-T6 sheet underwent heating and rapid cooling between 250 and 500℃. The mechanical properties were evaluated at each stage of the process. The findings revealed that when the initial heat treatment was below 350℃, the strength of the material remained unchanged. However, at temperatures above 400℃, there was a noticeable decrease in strength coupled with an increase in elongation. Conversely, when the secondary heat treatment was conducted at temperatures of 350℃ or lower, the strength remained comparable to that of the initial heat treated material. However, at higher temperatures, a reduction in strength and an increase in elongation were observed.
