Electrical Characteristics of HIS Tube Depending on Processing Parameters (공정변수에 따른 초전도 튜브의 전기적 특성)

  • High-temperature Superconductor(HTS) tubes were fabricated in term of different processing variables such as preheating temperature, speed of mold rotation and cooling rate by centrigugal forming method. For powder melting by induction the optimum range of melting temperatures and preheating temperature were $1050{\circ}C{\sim}1100{\circ}C\;and\;550{\circ}C\;for\;30\; min$, respectively The mould roating speed was 1000 rpm. A tube was annealed at $840 {\circ}C$ for 72 hours in oxygen atmosphere. The plate-like grains were well developed along the loafing direction and typical grain size was about more than $40{\mu}$. It was found that Ic values increased with increasing the Preheating temperature and speed of mold rotation. While Ic decreased with increasing the cooling rate. The measured Ic in $50mm{\times}70mm{\times}2.5mm$ tube was about 896 Amp.

A Study on Hydrodynamic Stiffness Characteristics of Air Bearing for High Speed Spindle

  • This study was carried out as one of efforts to overcome difficulties in air bearing design due to low stiffness and low damping. Hydrodynamic effects on hydrodynamic stiffness of a fluid film in a high speed air bearing with tow-row air sources are investigated. The hydrodynamic effects by the high speed over DN 1,000,000 and eccentricity of a proceeding which are not considered in conventional design of an air bearing need to be reconsidered. The hydrodynamic effects, which dominantly influence on the load capacity of air bearing, are caused mainly by proceeding speed, eccentricity, and the source positions. The two-row source arrangement in the air bearing produces quite unique hydrodynamic effects with respect to pressure distribution of the air film. Optimal arrangement of the two-row sources improves performance of an air bearing in film reaction force and loading capacity of high speed spindles. This study compares the pressure distribution by numerical simulation as a function of eccentricity of proceeding and the source positions. The air source position 1/7L form one end of an air bearing was found to be superior to source position of 1/4L. The dynamic stiffness were obtained using a two-dimensional cutting method which can directly measure the cutting reaction forces and the displacements of the spindle in two directions using a tool dynamometer and transducer sensors. Heat generation in the air film can not be negligible over the speed of DN 2,000,000. In order to analysis effects of heat generation on the characteristics of air bearing, high cooling bearing spindle and low cooling bearing spindle were tested and compared. Characteristics of the frequency response of shaft and motion of run out errors were different for the spindle. The test results show that, in the case of low cooling bearing spindle, the stiffness became smaller due to heat generation. The results, which were obtained for high speed region, may be used as a design information for spindle which can be applied to precision devices such as ultra precision grinding and ultra high speed milling.

  • High speed machining experiment on the heat-treated mold steel(STAVAX and CALMAX of hardness HRc 53) is carried using TiAlN coated ball endmill. Tool life and wear characteristics under the various machining parameters and cooling methods are investigated. Effect of cooling method on life and wear of the tool was compared. For most cases, tool life was not determined by the amount of wear but by th chipping on the cutting edge. It is found that tool manufacturer's cutting parameters generally agrees with the results of this experiment.

  • The cooling characteristics of a hot steel plate by a laminar impinging water bar were investigated experimentally. The dynamic parameters investigated were nozzle height L between nozzle and the hot plate, flow rate Q, and initial cooling temperature. Because the boiling phenomena on a hot steel plate are unsteady and change discontinuously, it is difficult to analyze the cooling characteristics directly. In this study the cooling efficiency was estimated by using the temperature decay rates and expansion speed of the water cooling zone. Temperature in the water cooling zone decreased rapidly and the radius of the water cooling zone expanded nearly in proportion to square root of the cooling time. With increasing initial temperature of a hot steel plate, the cooling efficiency became descendent. The cooling curve in the case of L/D = 30 showed the largest temperature decay rate and excellent cooling performance.

  • A $CO_2$ heat pump system was designed for both cooling and heating in the cabin of electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles or fuel cell vehicles, In this study, the performance characteristics of the heat pump system without any supplementary heating device were analyzed and the heating performance was compared with the cooling performance for various operating conditions. Experiments were carried out by changing the speed of electric drive compressor, the air flow rate of interior heat exchanger and the air inlet temperature and speed of exterior heat exchanger. Therefore, the cooling/heating capacities and the corresponding COPs are quantified. Also, the heat pump system showed an improved performance for the cooling operation and the heating operation. In this study, the experimental results can be used to evaluate the effect of system design changes on system performance as well as the development of a highly efficient heat pump system.

  • The spindle unit is core parts in high precision machine tools. Diverse static, dynamic and thermal charateristics of spindle unit are needed for special purpose of machine tools. Compromise between those charateristics will be done in concept design phase. High static stiffness at spindle nose may be very important performance for heavy cutting work. High dynamic stiffness is also useful to high precision and high speed machine tools. Improvement of thermal charateristics in spindle lead to high reliability of positioning accuracy. For high speed spindle structure, the design parameter such as, bearing span, diameter, bearing type and arrangement, preload, cooling and lubrication method should be in harmony.

  • It's so difficult to obtain simultaneously both product quality and improvement of the productivity of which products are in hot aluminum extrusion process. But significant improvements in productivity and extrudate quality result from die cooling system using nitrogen gas injection during aluminum hot extrusion. These benefits are due primarily to cooling effect nitrogen gas and removal of excess heat in the extrudate temperature. This investigation is carried out hot extrusion experiment, also compared cooling system with non-cooling system to inspect cooling effects on hot aluminum extrusion. The purpose of this investigation is estimated the grain growth fur the extrudate quality, and the ram speed for the improvement of the productivity.

  • In this study, we propose a conceptual design tool to develop fuel supply and engine cooling systems for high-speed vehicles. The preliminary designing of the systems and their validation were performed using this tool. Improvement in the design tool program was made using the fluid-thermal system design framework, which was applied to ensure efficient data processing using combined modules. The model geometry and thermal environment values were entered into the program. The thermodynamic properties of the system components were computed using the design tool, and simulation was performed to check the satisfaction rate of the requirements. It is hypothesized that our proposed design tool would be suitable for designing components for use in fuel supply and engine cooling systems of high-speed vehicles.

  • In this study, preliminary thermal sizing was performed with the aim of developing a fuel supply and cooling system design to solve the heating problems in high-speed vehicles. First, an analysis model was used to satisfy an optional mission profile. The heat loads were computed under boundary conditions. The results were verified using the precedent design case. Then, fuel consumption rates were estimated for the analysis trajectory. Accordingly, the cooling capacity in the system was calculated using the heat sink capacity of the endothermic fuel. Lastly, the fulfillment of the design requirements was confirmed in comparison to the cooling needs.

  • Cooling rate shows the highest as about 0.7$^{\circ}C$/hr on spring season and the lowest as about 0.3$^{\circ}C$/hr on september at plain place. The correlation coefficient between net radiation and cooling rate from sunrise to sunset was 0.63$^{**}$, It became higher to 0.90$^{**}$ when the wind speed decreased lower than 0.5 m/sec, and it decreased as the wind speed increased. On a clear and calm day, cooling rates were observed as 1.4$^{\circ}C$/hr on the plain (site 1, 2, 3), 1.2$^{\circ}C$/hr on the slope (site 4, 5) and 0.6$^{\circ}C$/hr on the top of mountain (site 6). In condition of the wind speed is 1.2~2 m/sec on a clear and calm day and the temperature on the top of mountain is lower than that of slope and plain, the temperature on the slope (site 4,5) was increased unlike our expectation.ion.
