Effect of the Flow Rate of Flame Gases on the Crystal Structure of TiO2 Nanopowder Synthesized by Flame Method (화염법으로 제조된 TiO2 나노분말의 결정구조에 미치는 화염가스 유량의 영향)

  • $TiO_2$ nanopowder has been synthesized by means of the flame method using a precursor of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP, Ti$(OC_3H_7)_4)$. In order to clarify the effect of cooling rate of hot flame on the formation of $TiO_2$ crystalline phases, the flame was controlled by varying the mixing ratio and the flow rate of gases. Anatase phase was predominantly synthesized under the condition having the steep cooling gradient in flame, while a slow cooling gradient enabled to form almost rutile $TiO_2$ nanopowder of above 95%.

  • Residual stresses is one of the major factors to degrade the magnetic properties of VCR magnetic heads. Vicker's indentation technique was adapted to estimate the residual stresses Residual stresses and distribution in the glass and ferrite were obtained after bonding ferrite with glass, varing the cooling rate. The compressive and tensile stresses were developed in the interface and gradually decreased with increasing distance from the interface. The stresses were decreased with a cooling rate. The mean values of residual stress in ferrite were 10MN/㎡, 8MN/㎡, 5MN/㎡ with cooling rate 10℃/min, 5℃/min, 1℃/min respectively. When the bonded sample was annealed above the glass transition temperature followed by cooling at 5℃/min cooling rate, the residual stress was reduced to 6MN/㎡.

  • It is important to consider powertrain cooling performance, when engine is applied to new vehicle. If the performance is poor, engine will be damaged by overheating. But, the development timing of engine is faster than timing of vehicle, it is difficult to test the cooling performance of new engine and vehicle. In this study the powertain cooling performance was estimated with some test and calculation data. First, the heat rejection test was conducted. From this test, the heat rejection data at required rpm and load was acquired. Second, coolant flow test was conducted. From this test coolant flow rate to radiator was measured. Then engine torque and rpm was calculated from vehicle load and speed. Vehicle load and speed was calculated from test mode. Then by comparing these data, the powertrain cooling performance was estimated.

Analysis of Eutectic Reaction as a Function of Cooling Rate in High Manganese Flake Graphite Cast Irons (고 망간 편상흑연주철에서 냉각속도별 공정반응 분석)

  • The effects of Mn content and cooling rate on the eutectic reaction of flake graphite cast irons were studied by a combined analysis of macro/micro-structure and cooling curve data. The correlation between the eutectic reaction parameter and macro/microstructure was systematically investigated. Two sets of chemical compositions with different Mn contents were designed to cast. Three types of molds for cylindrical specimens with different diameters were prepared to analyze the cooling rate effect. The difference between undercooling temperature and cementite eutectic temperature (${\Delta}T_1=T_U-T_{E,C}$), which is decreased by increasing the Mn content or increasing the cooling rate, is considered to be a suitable eutectic reaction parameter for predicting graphite morphology. According to the criterion, A-type graphite is mainly suggested to form for ${\Delta}T_1$ over $20^{\circ}C$, and D-type graphite is mainly suggested to form for ${\Delta}T_1$ below $0^{\circ}C$. Eutectic reaction time (${\Delta}T$), which is increased by increasing the Mn content and decreased by increasing the cooling rate, is regarded as a suitable eutectic reaction parameter for predicting eutectic cell size. Eutectic cell size is found to decrease in proportion to the decrease of ${\Delta}T$.

  • The purpose of this study is to design of film-cooling ring for the small thrust rocket engine using green propellants(Hydrogen peroxide and kerosene). Cold flow test was carried out to measure the mass flow rate and atomizing characteristic. Required mass flow rate was obtained from thermal analysis of the engine, and measured flow rate 42.25g/s was in the range of permissible coolant flow rate. With the same mass flow rate, cooling ring with more hole and high velocity shows better spray pattern. The result of thermal analysis, cooling ring has enough cooling performance.

  • The objective of this paper is to study the effects of the cooling air mass flow rate and the heat input variation by the simulation and the experiment. An air-cooled $NH_3/H_2O$ absorption chiller is tested in the present study. The nominal cooling capacity of the single effect machine is 17.6 kW (5.0 USRT). The overall conductance (UA) of each component, the cooling capacity, coefficient of performance and each state point are measured with the variation of the cooling air mass flow rate and the heat input. It is found that the COP and cooling capacity increase and then decreases with increasing the heat input. It is also found that the COP and the cooling capacity increase and keep constant with increasing the cooling air mass flow rate. The maximum COP is estimated as 0.51 and the optimum cooling air mass flow rate is $217\;m^3/min$ from the present experiment.

  • Average temperature and temperature uniformity in a battery cell are the important criteria of the thermal management of the battery pack for hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles (HEVs and EVs) because high power with large size cell is used for the battery pack. Thus, liquid cooling system is generally applied for the HEV/EV battery pack. The liquid cooling system is made of multiple cooling plates with coolant flow paths. The cooling plates are inserted between the battery cells to reject the heat from batteries to coolant. In this study, the cooling plate with U-shaped coolant flow paths is considered to evaluate the effects of coolant flow condition on the cooling performance of the system. The counter flow and parallel flow set up is compared and the effect of flow rate is evaluated using CFD tool (FLUENT). The number of counter-flows and flow rate are changed and the effect on the cooling performance including average temperature, differential temperature, and standard deviation of temperature are investigated. The results show that the parallel flow has better cooling performance compared with counter flow and it is also found that the coolant flow rate should be chosen with the consideration of trade-off between the cooling performance and pressure drop.

  • The mixed cooling dryer has been developed significantly by adopting both advantages of cooling dryers and desiccant dryers. In this study, it is introduced that the desired effect, such as drying rate period reduction and energy-saving, could be achieved only by adding the desiccant dryer if an existing cooling dryer is used. The experiment should be conducted for quite long time due to the material selection, so it is regrettable that there are not enough data.

A Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Radiant Chilled Ceiling Panel for Space Cooling (냉각된 복사천장패널의 열전달 특성에 관한 연구)

  • There is a chilled ceiling panel which carries out the air conditioning by radiation and convection between the room and cold ceiling panel surface. In order to verify heat transfer characteristics between them in cooling system with radiant chilled ceiling panel, analytical and experimental studies were performed for various design and operating parameters such as tube space and diameter, inlet water temperature, mass flow rate, cooling load, and so on. In this study, we found that the tube space and inlet water temperature were more important elements than the tube diameter and water flow rate for the performance of radiant chilled ceiling panel. The cooling capacity of the radiant chilled ceiling panel had the maximum value of $65W/m^{2}$ because the highest cooling capacity was limited by the condensation on the panel surface. The results of comparison between numerical analysis and experiment showed a resonable agreement qualitatively, especially for low cooling capacity.

  • This study aimed at measuring the latent heat of phase transformation of S45C carbon steel in quenching and at conducting the analytical researches into the calculation of cooling curves including the latent heat. The temperature of phase transformation of steel and its latent heat are dependant upon the cooling rates at the temperature of A1 phase transformation point. The effect of the latent heat of phase transformation is especially manifest at the cooling curve of center of specimens. The higher the cooling rates became, the lower fell the temperature region of phase transformation. In the figures of cooling rates, the phenomena of cooling rate dropping into zero was caused by the latent heat of phase transformation.
