The cool surface ratio could be used as a proxy of the overall thermal environment contributing to heat islands in urban area. This research proposes a comparative evaluation framework in an objective and quantitative way for measuring cool surface ratios. Two university campuses (Kyungpook National University: KNU, South Korea and UC Davis: University of California, Davis, USA) were selected as case study sites in order to monitor cool surface condition. Google Earth combined with digital maps realistically identified the major type of cool surfaces such as cool roofs and water bodies in the study area. Cool surfaces were sparsely identified over the KNU campus while the UC Davis campus was heavily covered by cool surfaces such as cool roofs and water bodies, resulting in almost four times more first-grade cool surfaces, as compared to KNU. It is confirmed that standard remote sensing technology can offer the viable method of measuring and comparing the campus-wide cool surface condition. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference to initiate a nation-wide cool surface strategy since objective evidence has been provided based on area-wide measurement for the cool surface in the two university context.

This study develops triacetate-containing functional fabrics with a cool-touch and cool-absorbent. For this purpose we used composite yarns made using triacetate filament and PET High absorbance quick dry filament as well as the composite fabric woven. The fineness of the yarn and structure of fabric varied the cover factor varied. The blend ratio of triacetate was differently set. When the triacetate content was the same, the cool touch of the fabric having a large cover factor and small SMD increased. The surface became smooth and the contact area became large; in addition, both the Qmax value and the cool-touch became large. In the case of similar density, the cool-touch of the fabric having a large content of triacetate increased. The cool-absorbent of the fabric containing triacetate showed a similar level of the PET High absorbance quick dry filament fabric treated with and endothermic cooling agent. It was possible to develop a functional coolness fabric with a cool-touch and a cool-absorbent when the content of triacetate and cover factor were well combined.
The urban heat island phenomenon that accelerates global warming has always been controversial when summer heatwaves have occurred since it was first investigated and described by Luke Howard in the 1810s. In Korea, since 2014, government have been interested in Cool Roof and painted white coating on the rooftops of the aging and weak buildings, and the cool roof business has expanded nationwide. However, the roof occupies 20-25% of the entire city surface, much less than 37-45% of the pavement area consisting of roads, parking lots and sidewalks, there is a need to expand the policy of Cool Pavement as a way to reduce the urban heat island phenomenon. Domestic cities are high-rise buildings centered on apartments, and the area occupied by outer walls is larger than that of rooftops compared to foreign low-rise buildings. Therefore, as a way to reduce the urban heat island phenomenon, there is a need for a policy to expand the Cool Roof in buildings and use Cool Wall in parallel. Therefore, this study aims to present the expansion of Cool Wall in buildings and Cool Pavement in urban areas, expanding the installation range of Cool Roof, by comparing and reviewing the thermal characteristics of eco-friendly ceramic coating with excellent thermal proof performance and coatings used for roof waterproofing.
Cool roofs are currently being emerged as one of important mechanism to save energy in relation to the building. This paper reviews worldwide experiences (USA, Japan and EU etc) for the potential benefits cool roofs offer in relation to building energy saving for comparison purposes. It is confirmed that there is a significant potential to the energy saving by introducing the cool roof in a Korean climate because of similarity in terms of HDD (Heating Degree Day) and CDD (Cooling Degree Day) as those countries reviewed. Such a comparative study highlights that the type of measurements performed and the quantitative parameters reported from the countries should be standardized in Korean context in order to implement further comparable experiments for scientifically sound investigations. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference in implementing a Nation-wide cool roofing strategy in the central and local governments since a suitable technical, more objective direction has been proposed based on the measured, fully quantitative performance of the involved components of a cool roof system in the global context. From this critical review, a very important step has been made concerning the practicality of cool roof in Korean context. Ultimately, the suggestion in this paper will greatly contribute to opening new possibilities for introducing cool roof in this country, proposed as an initial aim of this paper.

Our purpose of this study was to determine the most effective cool-down exercise. The recovery times of dynamic strength after isometric and isotonic cool-down exercise were measured immediately post cool-down exercise, 30 seconds later and 60 seconds later in 30 normal, healthy men from 19 to 29 years, using dumbells(Model, Iron). The recovery time of dynamic strength had a significant positive correlation with isotonic and isometric cool-down exercise using the Chi-square method (p<0.01). Sources of significant differences were determined by the Wilcoxon signed-ranks test (p<0.01). The isometric cool-down exercise significantly shortened the recovery time of dynamic strength. We suggest that the isometric cool-down exercise may be more effective than isotonic cool-down exercise in shortening the recovery time of dynamic strength.
This study confirmed the correlation between the change of the cooling water in internal cooling system and the size of the ablation site of bovine liver in RF heat treatment equipment. The bovine liver was resection with $4{\times}4{\times}4cm^3$ in 2cm cool-tip and with $6{\times}6{\times}6cm^3$ in 3cm cool-tip for the experiments. Area and perimeter of the ablation site for bovine liver were measured by Freehand techniques of MRI. It showed area and perimeter decreased during cool-tip temperature rises 6 and 12 minutes ablation using a 2cm and 3cm cool-tip. The correlation of cool-tip temperature and area and perimeter was statistically significant the result are shown(p=.000). The measurements of area and perimeter were more accurate with MRI in actual measurements and MRI for ablation range. The statistical results using Paired sample T-test was also significant(p=.038). The ablation range of bovine liver decreased according as cooling water temperature increases in RF heat treatment equipment for reason of carbonization occurred due to does not accurately pass the RF energy. Therefore, it is considered the effect of RF heat treatment would be increased if the temperature of the cooling water consistently maintain the low temperature in order to reduce the generation of carbide at RF heat treatment and RF energy is delivered accurately.

This study is to investigate the needs for the cool motorcycle helmet and the factors affecting the purchasing intention of cool helmet. The convenient sampling from motorcycle clubs were conducted during 5/20/2014~5/28/2014 on Google DAX. As a result, 197 participants were surveyed. The main reasons of sensing unpleasant feeling wearing helmet were identified as 'hot and uncomfortable feeling' and 'it ruins hair style'. The mean score expressed in terms of five point scale showed that the needs for cool helmet was 3.9 and the purchasing intention of cool helmet was 3.6, respectively. The significant factors influencing the purchasing intention of cool helmet were identified as 'the needs for cool helmet' (odds ratio=6.52) and 'extra paying intention for cool helmet' (odds ratio=1.77). The main reasons of sensing unpleasant feeling wearing helmet were similar to the previous research. However, we can expect that the initial target market for cool helmet would be the low end (less than \40,000 of extra paying intention) or the high end (more than \100,000 of extra paying intention). The main contribution of this study is dealing with the topics related to the purchasing intention of the cool helmet.

This study was carried out to investigate the utilizing of cool-season turfgrass in areas, excluding greens, of Korean golf courses. Data collected from 120 golf courses were subjected to frequency and T-test analysis using SPSSWIN. The results obtained were as follows: 1) seventy eight golf curses were utilizing cool-season turfgrass in areas except of the greens. At thirty five golf courses (46.0%) of them, the area utilized appeared tee, green collar, green approach etc. (tee>green collar>green approach). At 37 golf courses(48.7%), a mix of Kentucky Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass was utilized and the ratio of the mix was 70:30(v/v). At 57 golf courses(76.0%), seed sowing was utilized. 2) In Korean golf courses, the cognition of utilizing cool-season turfgrass depended on the existence of the practice. The cognition of the experienced was more´ affirmative´ than that of the inexperienced. 3) In the experienced, the preference was determined by turfgrass quality and good appearance and recuperative rate of cool-season turfgrass. In the inexperienced, the preference was determined by turfgrass quality god appearance. 4) The experienced recommended the mix of Kentucky bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass. 5) It seems that the golf courses having used cool-season turfgrass have difficulties in the maintenance in summer while the golf courses without using cool-season turfgrass have difficulties in the maintenance in summer and the selection of turfgrass variety.
This paper is intended to help cool-skin-colored people to choose suitable clothing colors confidently and look well-dressed and to make positive self-images. A pseudo-experimental method has made it possible to analyze the visual evaluations of clothing color images for cool-skin-colored people and obtain the following results. 1. Reddish colors of vivid tone for doffing give positive images and those of dull and dark tone, negative ones. 2. Yellowish colors of vivid and bright tone for doffing show positive images and those of dull and dark tone, negative ones. Cool yellow of light tone proves to contribute to a well-looking image. 3. Warm green of vivid and deep tone, and cool green of vivid tone for clothing present positive images. 4. Warm blue of vivid and deep tone, and cool blue of vivid and bright lone make positive images. Either blue with dull tone gives a negative image. 5. Purple colors whose tone is vivid, deep and light contribute to positive images, and those of dull tone, negative ones.

Web 2.0 and Semantic Web technology will be merged to be a next generation Web that leads presentation-oriented Web to data-centric Web. In the next generation Web, semantic processing, Web platform, and data fusion are most important technology factors. Among them, Cool URI used for data fusion can provide permanent and human readable URI and it has been already used in Blog system. However, Cool URI is not suitable to I18N environment such as Hangul and it is difficult to be adopted because several encodings are mingled in Korea Web society. In this paper, we discussed technology issues and Cool URI Web component to use Cool URI with Internationalized Resource Identifier (IRI). A proposed approach provides same function regardless of encoding type and supports both file system based and CGI based methods to be easily used from other applications. Results from several test environments show the implemented Web component satisfy the design purpose.
