  • In this paper, we present a demodulation structure suitable for a reader baseband receiver in a passive radio frequency identification (RFID) environment. In a passive RFID configuration, an undesirable DC-offset phenomenon may appear in the baseband of the reader receiver, which can severely degrade the performance of the extraction of valid information from the received tag signal. To eliminate this DC-offset phenomenon, the primary feature of the proposed demodulation structures for the received FM0 and Miller subcarrier signals is to reconstruct the signal corrupted by the DC-offset phenomenon by creating peak signals from the corrupted signal. It is shown that the proposed method can successfully detect valid data, even when the received baseband signal is distorted by the DC-offset phenomenon.

  • A circular plate is the main part of a circular saw blade, which is widely used in industrial cutting tools. In experiments using a circular saw containing slots, we observed that a number of natural frequencies are simultaneously emerged in specific frequency regions. The interesting phenomenon is called the frequency convergence. Effects of design parameters such as the number, the length and the width of slots, on the frequency-convergence phenomenon are analyzed by FEM simulations using ALGOR. The frequency-convergence phenomenon will be intensified when the number, length and width of slots increase.

  • The definition of convergence employed in this study is a sociocultural phenomenon where different patterns, genres or fields coexist along with the existence of a knowledge based society. The focus of this study was centered on identifying the characteristics of contemporary fashion paradigm in association with changing cultural convergence according to the theories of Mark Weiser and other futurologists. The purpose of this study was to delve into the features of this paradigm in conjunction with changing cultural convergence in 21st century's knowledge-based society, and the influence of convergence paradigm on fashion. After identifying the features of knowledge-based society paradigm in association with changing cultural convergence, the characteristics of the fashion paradigm in order to ascertain and analyze fashion trends. Conclusions based on analyzed data indicate that in a knowledge-based society, paradigm change resulting from convergence phenomena contributes to facilitating the dissolution of fashion from other fields and its fusion with other areas.

  • Many scholars have persevered in understanding the convergence process by developing a measurement that reflects the characteristics of the convergence phenomenon as a process. Recently a series of studies suggested a framework in terms of diversity and coherence. However, an index for coherence is required to reflect the vital features of the conceptual definition, and thus a new index for coherence is proposed in this paper. Technology Convergence Index combines diversity and coherence and indicates the degree of the convergence in information computer technology (ICT), biotechnology (BT) and nanotechnology (NT) sectors. The index can not only be used to track each technology field that consists of a major technology sector, but also to compare other leading countries. Based on a comparison study between the United States and South Korea, the degrees of technology convergence of Korea in ICT, BT, and NT sectors have ameliorated.

  • We first discuss jump discontinuity in higher dimension, and then prove a local convergence theorem for wavelet approximations in higher dimension. We also redefine the concept of Gibbs phenomenon in higher dimension and show that wavelet expansion exhibits Gibbs phenomenon.

  • Since the premature convergence phenomenon of genetic algorithms (GAs) degrades the performances of GAs significantly, solving this problem provides a lot of effects to the performances of GAs. In this paper, we propose a selective mutation method in order to improve the performances of GAs by alleviating this phenomenon. In the selective mutation, individuals are additionally mutated at the specific region according to their ranks. From this selective mutation, individuals with low ranks are changed a lot and those with high ranks are changed small in the phenotype. Finally, some good individuals search around them in detail and the other individuals have more chances to search new areas. This results in enhancing the performances of GAs through alleviating of the premature convergence phenomenon. We measured the performances of our method with four typical function optimization problems. It was found from experiments that our proposed method considerably improved the performances of GAs.

  • When a sampling theorem holds in wavelet subspaces, sampling expansions can be a good approximation to projection expansions. Even when the sampling theorem does not hold, the scaling function series with the usual coefficients replaced by sampled function values may also be a good approximation to the projection. We refer to such series as hybrid sampling series. For this series, we shall investigate the local convergence and analyze Gibbs phenomenon.

  • Interpreting the phenomenon of Fast fashion that is prevalent these days, this research is meaningful in that it prepares the frame which suggests the vision to read the trend of 2000s and analyzes the property of phenomenon of Fast Fashion in the connection with society and culture. The so[io-cultural property can be largely characterized by consumption orientation, change orientation, efficiency, moment and multiculturism. Analyzing the phenomenon of fast fashion that emerged after 2000 on the basis of such sociocultural background, it is largely classified into imitation, fashionability, disposability, portability, transformation and convergence. Due to the hi-polarization of consumption, people tend to select imitated goods, and people accustomed to speed get interested in the fashionability of all Phenomena. Further, society that is transient and changing rapidly makes the habit of purchasing in disposability. The property of nomad society encourages to keep the habit of portability. Such change-oriented society and rapidly changing life pattern make them adapt in diverse transformation modes of Fast Fashion. Further, multi-cultural world integrates enterprises through combination of all cultures and the convergence of all factors.

  • Today, the term of fusion, such as technology convergence and industrial convergence, is emerging as one of the most important trends in our society. The purpose of this study is to analyze the convergence coefficient of each industry using patent data and to analyze the convergence phenomenon in industry based on convergence coefficient. To do this, 2011-2015 Korean patent data were utilized. The research findings revealed that the ICC by industry was the highest in order of man-made fibres, paints/varnishes, petroleum products/nuclear fuel and other chemicals. Also, according to the inter-industry convergence matrix, the number of convergence patents was the greatest in order of office machinery and computers, special purpose machinery industries and Measuring instruments. Added same analysis was conducted through Industry with high number of patents. As a result, the convergence has been actively carried out in the fields of optical instruments, Basic chemical, Fabricated metal products, Measuring instruments and special purpose machine manufacturing industries.
