In this study, behavior of a rigid continuous wall, earth pressure distribution with construction stage, and axial force of earth anchors were evaluated based on field monitoring data and numerical analysis results. For this purpose, a construction site excavated using the diaphragm wall was selected and full instrumentation system was introduced. From monitoring results, it was found that the values of horizontal displacement of the wall measured from the inclinometers, which were installed within the diaphragm wall were similar to analytical value. The earth pressure increased with excavation progress due to jacking force of the ground anchors installed in previous excavation stages. When the excavation depth reached 60% of the final depth, observed earth pressure distribution was similar to that estimated from Peck's apparent earth pressure distribution. When the excavation depth was around 90% of the final depth, values of observed earth pressure showed middle values between those of Peck's and Tschebotarioffs apparent earth pressures. It was also observed that, when excavation depth is deep, values of the earth pressures from the rigid wall were similar to those estimated from conventional earth pressure distribution shape proposed for flexible walls.

Masonry walls are of a complex (anisotropic) structure in terms of their mechanical properties. The mechanical properties of the walls are affected by the properties of the materials used in wall construction, joint thickness and the type of masonry bond. The carried-out studies, particularly in the seismic zones, have revealed that the most of the conventional masonry walls were constructed without considering any engineering approach. Along with that, large-scale damages were detected on such structural elements after major earthquake(s), and such damages were commonly occurred at the brick-joint interfaces. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of joint thickness and also type of mortar on the mechanical behavior of the masonry walls. For this aim, the brick masonry walls were constructed through examination of both the literature and the conventional masonry walls. In the construction process, a single-type of brick was combined with two different types of mortar: cement mortar and hydraulic lime mortar. Three different joint thicknesses were used for each mortar type; thus, a total of six masonry walls were constructed in the laboratory. The mechanical properties of brick and mortars, and also of the constructed walls were determined. As a conclusion, it can be stated that the failure mechanism of the brick masonry walls differed due to the mechanical properties of the mortars. The use of bed joint thickness not less than 20 mm is recommended in construction of conventional masonry walls in order to maintain the act of brick in conjunction with mortar under load.
Problems of composite tissue transfer commonly arise when a single indispensable recipient vessel receives the graft vssel, and the graft vessel must be sutured in end-to-side fashion so as not todisturb the vascularity of the recipient vessel. The triangular flap in the recipient vessel wall gives an intact endothelial surface when the flow of blood stream is presented and may reduce the chance of anastomosis. We selected mature Wistar rats weighing over 450 grams to compare the conventional longitudinal slit from the triangular flap in the recipient carotid artery over bloood pressure and blood flow when the donor carotid artery was anastomosed in end-to-side fashion. In 30 minutes after anastomosis, maximum blood pressure measured in the donor carotid arterial side when the recipient arterial wall was fasioned with the longitudinal slit was recorded 114 mmHg and with the triangular flap 100mmHg. Minimum blood pressure with the longitudinal slit was 98mmHg and with the triangular flap 88mmHg. The amount of blood collected for 30 seconds in the conventional longitudinal slit was 1.18mg and in the triangular flap 0.78mg. Histology study in 30 minutes, the conventional longitudinal slit demonstrated the more hemorrhagic features around the suture material compared to that of the triangular. flap and, in the 7th day, the conventional longitudinal slit demonstrated the more prominent granulomatous reactions and vascular proliferations around the suture material compared to that of the triangular flap.

The purpose of this study is to develop an air-passing soundproofing panel with more improved structure to reduce the $CO_2$ emission and installation cost. To reduce the emission of $CO_2$ ; it is suggested to choose low $CO_2$ emission material relative to the aluminum and to reduce the materials by developing a specially designed air-passing soundproofing panel structure. First of all, we performed the flow analysis to predict the wind pressure according to the open angle of the air-passing soundproofing panel and the noise level analysis at the receiver point. To verify the simulation, a prototype of the soundproofing panel was made. The flow test in the wind tunnel and load test were performed. The economic evaluation for the installation of the air-passing soundproofing panel was performed and specifications of the installation was prepared. As the results of this research, it was verified that the wind load was reduced about 40% to that of the conventional one at 25m/s wind speed in the wind tunnel test. By applying the 4m span soundproofing wall with air-passing soundproofing panel and under the cost of 250 thousand $won/m^2$ instead of the conventional 2m span panel, the installation cost will always be lowered than the conventional one in the combination of (60:40~50:50) conventional to air-passing soundproofing panel from the economic evaluation. The 20% reduction of $CO_2$ was found by changing the 50% of aluminum soundproof panel to air-passing soundproofing panel.
A three-dimensional panel system, which was offered as a new method for construction in Jordan using relatively high strength modular panels for walls and ceilings, is investigated in this paper. The panel consists of two steel meshes on both sides of an expanded polystyrene core and connected together with a truss wire to provide a 3D system. The top face of the ceiling panel was pored with regular concrete mix, while the bottom face and both faces of the wall panels were cast by shotcreting (dry process). To investigate the structural performance of this system, an extensive experimental testing program for ceiling and wall panels subjected to static and dynamic loadings was conducted. The load-deflection curves were obtained for beam and shear wall elements and wall elements under transverse and axial loads, respectively. Static and dynamic analyses were conducted, and the performance of the proposed structural system was evaluated and compared with a typical three dimensional reinforced concrete frame system for buildings of the same floor areas and number of floors. Compressive strength capacity of a ceiling panel is determined for gravity loads, while flexural capacity is determined under the effect of wind and seismic loading. It was found that, the strength and serviceability requirements could be easily satisfied for buildings constructed using the three-dimensional panel system. The 3D panel system is superior to that of conventional frame system in its dynamic performance, due to its high stiffness to mass ratio.

The present paper provides experimental J estimation equation for the circumferential through-wall cracked pipe under four-point bending, based on the load-crack opening displacement (COD) record. Based on the limit analysis and the kinematically admissible rigid-body rotation field, the plastic ${\eta}$-factor for the load-COD record is derived and is compared with that for the load-load line displacement record. Comparison with the J results from detailed elastic-plastic finite element (FE) analysis shows that the proposed method based on the load-COD record provides reliable J estimates even for shallow cracks, whereas the conventional approach based on the load-load line displacement record gives erroneous results for shallow cracks. Thus, the proposed J estimation method could be recommended for testing the circumferential through-wall cracked pipe, particularly with shallow cracks.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to develop and apply the critical pathway to the orbital wall fracture patients and to elucidate its effect. Methods: Critical pathway(CP) sheet and questionnaire were developed by a team approach. Critical pathway was applied to 7 orbital wall fracture patients (CP group) from April 2006 to September 2006. Length of hospitalization and cost for hospitalization of CP group were compared to those of the 10 patients who had same disease entities and treated by conventional regimen(control group). Results: Length of hospitalization in the CP group (7.20 day) were insignificantly shorter than that of control group(8.71 day). Mean cost for hospitalization of the CP group(776,398 won) were insignificantly lower than that of control group(1,028,531 won). The patients satisfaction for the explanation regarding operation procedure, therapeutic operation fee, length of hospitalization and medical personnel were all affirmative. Conclusion: Critical pathway that we developed for orbital wall fracture definitely improved the quality of treatment. Furthermore, other critical pathways should be developed for another facial trauma patients.
Continuous deep girders which transmit the gravity load from the upper wall to the lower columns have frequently long end shear spans between the boundary of the upper wall and the face of the lower column. This paper presents the results of tests and analyses performed on three 1:2.5 scale specimens with long end shear spans, (the ratios of shear-span/total depth: 1.8 < a/h < 2.5): one designed by the conventional approach using the beam theory and two by the strut-and-tie approach. The conclusions are as follows: (1) the yielding strength of the continuous RC deep girders is controlled by the tensile yielding of the bottom longitudinal reinforcements, being much larger than the nominal strength predicted by using the section analysis of the girder section only or using the strut-and-tie model based on elastic-analysis stress distribution. (2) The ultimate strengths are 22% to 26% larger than the yielding strength. This additional strength derives from the strain hardening of yielded reinforcements and the shear resistance due to continuity with the adjacent span. (3) The pattern of shear force flow and failure mode in shear zone varies depending on the amount of vertical shear reinforcement. And (4) it is necessary to take into account the existence of the upper wall in the analysis and design of the deep continuous transfer girders that support the upper wall with a long end shear span.
The reasonable static and dynamic earth pressure equations were developed by applying the Dubrova's theory and Chang's method to the following cases of wall movements; (1) Active case rotating about the top (2) Active case rotating about the bottom (3) Passive case rotating about the top (4) Passive case rotating about the bottom The equations are presented in accordance with particular wall displacements for the sand and cohesive back-fill, respectively. The results computed by the proposed equations are compared with the conventional theoretical values.
This study was intended to suggest a new-concept construction method of permanent basement wall combined with earth retaining wall by using PHC piles to overcome the disadvantages of conventional CIP methods or the like which have been used just for earth retaining walls during field construction, and to determine its applicability. PHC piles are characterized by the reliable quality attributed to prefabrication (shop fabrication) as well as superior concrete strength and prestressing steel strength to that of CIP in the aspect of materials, and also higher bending moment than that of CIP in the aspect of structure.
