Semiconductor inspection equipment makes components using materials with insulating properties for functional inspection including current and voltage of semiconductor parts. A representative insulating material is plastic, and plastic is made of a component through an injection process using plastic pellet. When plastic pellets contain excessive moisture, problems such as performance degradation and product surface defects occur. To prevent this, pre-drying is essential, and the heat convective type is the most applied. However, the heat convective type has a problem of low consumption efficiency and a long drying time. Recently, many studies have been conducted on a drying method using microwaves due to high energy efficiency. In this paper, drying was performed using a microwave for drying PC pellets. Energy consumption and drying efficiency analyzed by set up an experimental apparatus of heat convective, microwave, and hybrid(heat convective + microwave) types. It was confirmed that energy consumption and drying efficiency were high when drying using microwaves, and it was confirmed that the hybrid method improved drying performance compared to the heat convective method. It is expected that the research results of this paper can be used as basic data for drying plastic pellets using microwave.
In this study, six two-phase nonboiling heat transfer correlations obtained from the recommendations of our previous work were assessed. These correlations were modified using seven extensive sets of two-phase flow experimental data available from the literature, for vertical and horizontal tubes and different flow patterns and fluids. A total of 524 data points from five available experimental studies (which included the seven sets of data) were used for improvement of the six identified correlations. Based on the tabulated and graphical results of the comparisons between the predictions of the modified heat transfer correlations and the available experimental data, appropriate improved correlations for different flow patterns, tube orientations, and liquid-gas combinations were recommended.
This paper reports an experimental study on flow boiling of pure refrigerants R l34a and R l23 and their mixtures in a uniformly heated horizontal tube. The flow pattern was observed through tubular sight glasses with an internal diameter of 10㎜ located at the inlet and outlet of the test section. Tests were run at a pressure of 0.6 MPa in the heat flux ranges of 5-50㎾/㎡, vapor quality 0-100 percent and mass velocity of 150-600㎏/㎡s. Both in the nucleate boiling-dominant region at low quality and in the two-phase convective evaporation region at higher quality where nucleation is supposed to be fully suppressed, the heat transfer coefficient for the mixture was lower than that for an equivalent pure component with the same physical properties as the mixture. The reduction of the heat transfer coefficient in mixture is explained by such mechanisms as mass transfer resistance and non-linear variation in physical properties etc. In this study, the contribution of convective evaporation, which is obtained for pure refrigerants under the suppression of nucleate boiling, is multiplied by the composition factor by Singal et al. (1984). On the basis of Chen's superposition model, a new correlation is presented for heat transfer coefficients of mixture.

Recent developments in the prediction of the contribution of windnoise to the interior SPL have opened a realm of new possibilities in terms of i) how the convective and acoustic sources terms can be identified, ii) how the interaction between the source terms and the side glass can be described and finally iii) how the transfer path from the sources to the interior of the vehicle can be modelled. This work discusses in details these three aspects of wind noise simulation and recommends appropriate methods to deliver required results at the right time based on i) simulation and experimental data availability, ii) design stage at which a decision must be made and iii) time available to deliver these results. Several simulation methods are used to represent the physical phenomena involved such as CFD, FEM, BEM, FE/SEA Coupled and SEA. Furthermore, a 1D and 2D wavenumber transformation is used to extract key parameters such as the convective and the acoustic component of the turbulent flow from CFD and/or experimental data whenever available. This work focuses on the validation of the wind noise source characterization method and the vibro-acoustic models on which the wind noise sources are applied.
Convective heat transfer is the main component of greenhouse energy loss because the energy loss by this mechanism is greater than those of the other two components (radiative and conductive). Previous studies have examined the convective heat transfer coefficients under natural conditions, but they are not applicable to symmetric thermal screens with zero porosity, and such screens are largely produced and used in Korea. However, the properties of these materials have not been reported in the literature, which causes selectivity issues for users. Therefore, in this study, three screens having similar color and zero porosity were selected, and a mathematical procedure based on radiation balance equations was developed to determine their convective heat transfer coefficients. To conduct the experiment, a hollow wooden structure was built and the thermal screen was tacked over this frame; the theoretical model was applied underneath and over the screen. Input parameters included three components: 1) solar and thermal fluxes; 2) temperature of the screen, black cloth, and ambient air; and 3) wind velocity. The convective heat transfer coefficients were determined as functions of the air-screen temperature difference under open-air environmental conditions. It was observed from the outcomes that the heat transfer coefficients decreased with the increase of the air-screen temperature difference provided that the wind velocity was nearly zero.

This paper represents the importance of dependent variables in non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates just as the importance of those variables of convective scheme and turbulence model in computational fluid dynamics. Each of Cartesian, physical covariant and physical contravariant velocity components was tested as the dependent variables of momentum equations in the staggered grid system. In the flow past a circular cylinder, the results were computed to use each of three variables and compared to experimental data. In the skewed driven cavity flow, the results were computed to check the grid dependency of the variables. The results used in Cartesian and physical contravariant components of velocity in cylinder flow show the nearly same accuracy. In the case of Cartesian and contravariant component, the same number of vortex was predicted in the skewed driven cavity flow. Vortex strength of Cartesian component case has about 30% lower value than that of the other two cases.

A printed circuit steam generator (PCSG) is being considered as the component for pressurized water reactor (PWR) type small modular reactor (SMR) that can further reduce the physical size of the system. Since a steam generator in many PWR-type SMR generates superheated steam, it is expected that dryout front oscillation can potentially cause thermal fatigue failure due to cyclic thermal stresses induced by the transition in boiling regimes between convective evaporation and film boiling. To investigate the fatigue issue of a PCSG, a reference PCSG is designed in this study first using an in-house PCSG design tool. For the stress analysis, a finite element method analysis model is developed to obtain the temperature and stress fields of the designed PCSG. Fatigue estimation is performed based on ASME Boiler and pressure vessel code to identify the major parameters influencing the fatigue life time originating from the dryout front oscillation. As a result of this study, the limit on the temperature difference between the hot side and cold side fluids is obtained. Moreover, it is found that the heat transfer coefficient of convective evaporation and film boiling regimes play an essential role in the fatigue life cycle as well as the temperature difference.

For $P_B=50,\;{\Delta}T=10K$, Ar=5, Pr=2.36, Le=0.015, Pe=1.26, Cv=1.11, the intensity of solutal convection (solutal Grashof number $Grs=3.44x10^4$) is greater than that of thermal convection (thermal Grashof number $Grt=1.81x10^3$) by one order of magnitude, which is based on the solutally buoyancy-driven convection due to the disparity in the molecular weights of the component A($Hg_2Cl_2$) and B(He). With increasing the partial pressure of component B from 10 up to 200 Torr, the rate is decreased exponentially. The convective transport decreases with lower g level and is changed to the diffusive mode at 0.1 $g_0$. In other words, for regions in which the g level is 0.1 $g_0$ or less, the diffusion-driven convection results in a parabolic velocity profile and a recirculating cell is not likely to occur. Therefore a gravitational acceleration level of less than 0.1 $g_0$ can be adequate to ensure purely diffusive transport.

In the present study, the velocity profiles and entrance length of developing transitional pulsating flows are investigated both analytically and experimentally in the entrance region of a square duct. The systems of conservation equations for transitional pulsating flows in a square duct are solved analytically by linearizing the non-linear convective terms. Analytical solutions are obtained in the form of infinite series for velocity pofiles. The experimental study for the air flow in a square duct(40mm*40mm*4000mm) is carried out to measure velocity profiles and other parameters by using a hot-wire anemometer with a data acquisition and processing system. The distribution of velocity profiles( $u_{ps}$ / $u_{m,ta}$) in the decelerating period is higher than in the accelerating period. The distribution of the axial component of the axial component of velocity in the transitional flow is nearly uniform in the central region of the duct, and decrease rapidly near the wall. The entrance length correlation of the transitional pulsating flows in a square duct is obtained to be $L_{e}$/ $D_{h}$=0.83 $A_{1}$R $e_{ta}$ /(.omega. sup+1)$^{2}$TEX>

The equivalent static load for non-structural elements has a limitation in that the sloshing effect and the interaction between the fluid and the water tank cannot be considered. In this study, the equations to evaluate the impulse and convective components in the design codes and previous research were compared with the shaking table test results of a rectangular water tank with flexible wall panels. The conclusions of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) It was observed that the natural periods of the impulsive component according to ACI 350.3 were longer than system identification results. Thus, ACI 350.3 may underestimate the earthquake load in the case of water tanks with flexible walls. (2) In the case of water tanks with flexible walls, the side walls deform due to bending of the front and back walls. When such three-dimensional fluid-structure interaction was included, the natural period of the impulsive component became similar to the experimental results. (3) When a detailed finite element (FE) model of the water tank was unavailable, the assumption Sai = SDS could be used, resulting in a reasonably conservative design earthquake load.
