Effects of Controlled Drainage Systems on Soybean (Glycine max L.) Growth and Soil Characteristics in Paddy Fields

  • Crop production in rice paddy fields is of great importance because of declining rice consumption and the low self-sufficiency ratio for field crops in Korea. A controlled drainage system (CDS) is recognized as an effective means to adjust water table (WT) levels as needed and control soil water content to improve the soil environment for optimum crop growth. The present study evaluated the effects of a CDS on soil characteristics, including soil water distribution and soybean development in paddy fields. The CDS was installed with two drain spacing (3 m and 6 m) at the experimental paddy field at the National Institute of Crop Science, Miryang, Korea. It was managed with two WT levels (0.3 m and 0.6 m) during the growing season. Soil water content, electrical conductivity and plant available nitrogen content in the soil were significantly greater in the 0.3 m WT management plots than in the 0.6 m plot and the control. At the vegetative stage, chlorophyll content was significantly lower with higher WT control because of excess soil moisture, but it recovered after the flowering stage. Soybean yield increased with WT management and the 0.6 m WT treatment produced the greatest grain yield, $3.38ton\;ha^{-1}$, which was 50% greater than that of the control. The CDS directly influenced outflow through the drains, which significantly delayed nutrient loss. The results of this study indicated that WT management by CDS can influence soil characteristics and it is an important practice for high yielding soybean production in paddy fields, which should be considered the crop growth stages for stable crop production.

Effects of Manual Lymph Drainage on the Activity of Sympathetic Nervous System, Anxiety, Pain, and Pressure Pain Threshold in Subjects with Psychological Stress

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of manual lymph drainage (MLD) on the activity of sympathetic nervous system, anxiety, pain and pressure pain threshold in subjects with psychological stress. Methods: Twenty-nine subjects with psychological stress were randomly assigned to experimental (MLD) and control (rest) groups. This study was performed as a controlled, randomized study using spectral analysis of electrocardiographic (ECG) activities, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT). Results: Heart rate variability differed significantly between the experimental and control groups (p<0.05). Anxiety and pain showed positive change in both group but it were not showed statically differences. The pressure pain threshold in the upper trapezius muscle was increased in the experimental group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings indicate that the application of MLD was effective in reducing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, anxiety, pain, and increasing the PPT.

양액재배 오이의 급액제어모델 개발에 관한 기초연구 (A Fundamental Study on the Development of Irrigation Control Model in Soilless Culture of Cucumber)

  • This study was conducted to develop the simple and convenient irrigation control model which can maintain the appropriate rates of irrigation and drainage of nutrient solution according to the environmental conditions and growth stages in soilless culture of cucumber. In order to obtain fundamental data for development of the model, investigation of the actual state of soilless culture practices was carried out. Most irrigation systems of soilless culture were controlled by the time clock. Evapotranspiration of cucumber in soilless culture was investigated and correlations with environmental conditions were analyzed, and its prediction model was developed. A irrigation control model based on the time clock control and there were considered seasons, weather conditions, and growth stages was developed. Applicability of the model was tested by simulation. Drainage rates of irrigation system controlled by conventional time clock, integrated solar radiation, and the developed model were 61%, 20%, and 32%, respectively in cucumber perlite culture.

Applicability of the model was tested by simulation. Drainage rates of nutrient solution controlled by conventional time clock, integrated solar radiation, and the developed model were 61% , 20%, and 32% , respectively in cucumber perlite culture.

  • 토마토를 대상으로 암면과 코이어를 사용한 자루재배에서 일사량제어와 배액전극제어법의 급액제어 능력을 실험한 결과, 배지 종류에 관계없이 일사량제어법에 비해 배액전극제어법에서 배지함수량과 배액량이 안정 적이었다. 총수확량과 상품과량은 배액전극제어법에서 많았으며, 동일한 급액제어 처리 안에서는 배지간 차이는 없었다. 당도는 급액제어 방법의 차이보다는 배지의 종류에 영향을 많이 받았다. 배액전극제어법은 펄라이트뿐만 아니라 암면과 코이어배지에서도 범용적으로 일사량제어법에 비해 유리한 것으로 나타났다.

A Summary of Recent Pilot Machine and Commercial Machine Trials Comparing a New Microparticle Retention System with Existing Microparticle Technologies

  • The benefits of high performance retention systems have been long recognized by the paper maker. The inter-relation between chemical retention and drainage and their effect on paper production efficiency and paper quality is significant. The subject of this paper is a summary of recent studies comparing three microparticle programs made under highly controlled pilot and commercial paper machine conditions. The results presented in this paper suggest that, in addition to improvements in machine operation, the retention, drainage and formation program can have a marked influence on the paper quality. Improvement of the topographical characteristics of the base paper was observed when the microparticle was a colloidal borosilicate inorganic oxide.

토마토 펄라이트 자루재배시 배액전극제어법 적용시점 구명 (Application Time of Irrigation Management by Drainage Level Sensor in Tomato Perlite Bag Culture)

  • 토마토 펄라이트 자루재배에서 기존에 알려진 배액 전극제어법 적용시기를 가능한 앞당기고, 배양액을 절감하기 위해 수행되었다. 실험처리는 정식후 15일차(T-15), 19일차(T-19), 22일차(T-22)에 배액전극제어법을 적용하는 3개 처리와 타이머법 1개 처리를 실시하였다. 기존의 정식후 1개월 이후에 배액전극제어법 적용하는 관행보다 2주 앞당긴 15일차 처리부터 작물이 배액전극제어법에 반응하는 것으로 나타났다. 생장 및 수확량은 배액전극법에서 높았다. 용수이용효율과 비료이용효율은 T-15 처리에서 가장 경제적이었고, 타이머법 처리는 경제성이 낮았다. 따라서 배액전극제어법 처리시기를 빨리 적용할수록 경제성이 높음을 알 수 있었다.

논 토양에서 배수 및 시비조건에 따른 토양특성, 생육 및 도복 관련 형질의 변화 (Changes of soil characteristics, rice growth and lodging traits by different fertilization and drainage system in paddy soil)

  • 덕평통에서 화봉벼를 재배하여 암거배수시 토양 및 식물체 무기성분, 벼의 도복 관련형질과 수량을 비교 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 시험전 토양의 화학성은 암거구가 무암거구보다 유기물, 유효인산, 치환성 칼리 등의 함량이 다소 많았으며 벼 재배기간 동안의 평균 감수심은 암거배수구에서 $15.28mm\;day^{-1}$, 무암거구에서 $7.90mm\;day^{-1}$을 보였으며 시험후 물리성은 토심 20cm 이하에서는 암거구에서 가비중이 낮았고 공극률은 증가하는 경향이었다. 시험후 pH는 표토에서는 암거구가 높았으나 심토에서는 무암거구가 높았고 O.M은 표토, 심토 모두 무암거구가 높았다. Av. $P_2O_5$는 표토에서는 무암거구와 암거구가 비슷하였으나 심토에서는 암거구가 높은 경향이었고 치환성 칼리는 pH와 유사한 경향을 나타내었고 토양 중 $NH_4{^+}-N$은 초기에는 차이가 없었으나 유수형성기 이후에는 암거구가 높았다. 주요 시기별 벼 생육은 분얼기에는 차이가 없었으나 유수형성기 이후에는 무암거구 보다 암거구가 초장, 경수 엽색도 및 건물중이 높은 경향이었고 시비조건간에는 관행과 완효성비료와 비슷한 경향이었고 주요 시기별 식물체 무기성분중 전질소는 전 생육기간 동안 암거구가 높았고 $K_2O$의 함량은 분얼기에는 차이가 없었으나 유수형성기 이후에는 암거구가 높았고 CaO는 큰 차이가 없었으나 출수후 벼 뿌리의 T-N, $P_2O_5$, $K_2O$ 등의 함량이 암거구가 무암거구보다 높았다. 벼의 도복 관련 형질중에서 중심고가 암거구가 무암거구보다 높았고 2, 3절간이 더 신장하였으나 Pulling force는 암거구가 무암거구보다 높게 나타났다. 수량은 암거구의 도복으로 무암거보다 적었으나 암거 무비구의 수량은 무암거 무비구 보다 높아 논토양에서 암거배수시 감비재배를 시사하였다.

Development of Silica Based Microgels and Evaluation of Their Performance in Microparticle Retention System

  • The effectiveness of silica-based microgels prepared through the reaction of sulfuric acid and sodium silicate as a component of Compozil system has been evaluated . Silica based microgels with better performance in retention and drainage than a commercial colloidal silica sol have been successfully prepared. Silica gels with the highest charge density were obtained when product pH was controlled to 9. And highly charged silica-based microgels showed greater retention and freeness performance than a commerical product. In particular the difference in retention, turbidity , and freeness between these microgels and a commercial product was eminent at low addition rate. The effects of reaction conditions including reaction temperature, process water quality and feeing rate on product efficiency in improving retention and drainage were also investigated and discussed.

  • 펄라이트자루를 사용한 수경재배에서 급액관리방식의 일종인 배액전극제어법에 필요한 배액 이동매개체를 선발하기 위해서 시판되고 있는 친수성 매트 중에서 극세사, 융, 면 등의 배양액 흡수속도를 분석했다. 또한, 선택된 매트가 배액전극제어법을 적용하였을 때에도 높은 흡수속도를 갖는지 알아보기 위해 연구를 수행하였다. 실험결과 면이 가장 수분보유력이 뛰어났으며, 배액전극제어법을 적용했을 때에도 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다.
