  • Objectives: Galgeunhaegitang-gamibang(GH) and Samhwangseze-gamibang(SG) has been known that they are helpful for treatment of atopic dermititis clinically, but there is no report about the effect of GH and SG. So, author aimed to investigate the effects of GH and SG on atopic dermititis of NC/Nga mice. Methods : NC/Nga mice were divide into three group : normal, control, and experimental group. Atopic dermatitis was induced in the control and experimental group by spreading DNCB. Then GH was orally administered three times in a week for 8 weeks to the experimental group and SG was spreaded two times in a day for 8 weeks to the experimental group, while the control group was given normal saline. We observed changes of clinical skin severity score, serum IgE, IL-4, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IgM, IgGl, $IFN-{\gamma}$ and so on. We used one-way ANOVA test statistically(p<0.01). Results : Clinical skin severities of experiment group in 13 and 16weeks were significantly decreased by 48% and 55% compared to the control group. Serum IgE, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IgM, IgGl levels of experimental group were singnificantly decreased compared to the control group. Serum $IFN-{\gamma}$ level of the experimental group was significantly increased against control group. mRNA expression levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and CCR3 in the skin tissues of experimental group were significantly decreased compared to the control group. In contrary, $IFN-{\gamma}$y mRNA expression level were increased compared to the control group. Histological observation of the ear and skin tissues showed that the extents of inflammation and infiltrated immune cells in the epidermis and dermis of experimental group were highly deminished compared to the control group. Judging from that $IL-1{\beta}$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-6 expression of gene, the effects of inflammatory cytokine revelation were significantly decreased compared to the control group. In the model inducing COX-2 activity in RAW 264.7 cell, COX-2 activity was significantly inhibited depending on the density of GH compared to the control serum. According to cell multiplication, examination of cell toxicity showed that GH is safe at the density of 10, 50, 100mg/l and even 1000mg/l. Conclusion : Accordin to the above results, it is considered that GH and SG is effective treatment for the atopic dermatitis.

  • Cryopreservation of porcine ovarian tissue by vitrification method is a promising approach to preserve genetic materials for future use. However, information is not enough and technology still remains in a challenge stage in pig. Therefore, the objective of present study was to determine possibility of vitrification method to cryopreserve porcine ovarian tissue and to confirm an occurrence of cryoinjuries. Briefly, cryoinjuries and apoptosis patterns in vitrified-warmed ovarian tissue were examined by histological evaluation and TUNEL assay respectively. In results, a damaged morphology of oocytes was detected among groups and the rate was significantly (p < 0.05) lower in vitrification group (25.8%) than freezing control group (67.7%), while fresh control group (6.6%) showed significantly (p < 0.05) lower than both groups. In addition, cryoinjury that form a wave pattern of tissues around follicles was found in the frozen control group, but not in the fresh control group as well as in the vitrification group. Apoptotic cells in follicle was observed only in freezing control group while no apoptotic cell was found in both fresh control and vitrification. Similarly, apoptotic patterns of tissues not in follicle were comparable between fresh control and vitrification groups while freezing control group showed increased tendency. Conclusively, it was confirmed that vitrification method has a prevention effect against cryoinjury and this method could be an alternative approach for cryopreservation of genetic material in pigs. Further study is needed to examine the viability of oocytes derived from vitrified-warmed ovarian tissue.

  • A quantitative restriction of maternal diet without changes in quality of diet was given to the Sprague Dawley rats during the third week of gestation and lactation. Half the normal average daily intake of control group was given to deficient groups in this period. Female rats of control group were fed a commercial diet ad libitum throughout the experimental period. Dietary restriction started from birth to weaning in deficient I group and from the 15th day of gestation to weaning in deficient II group. Body and brain weight of offsprings of deficient groups were significantly lower than control group, but the ratios of brain weight to body weight in deficient groups were higher than the control group. Significant difference between deficient groups (I and II) was noticed at weaning. Brain DNA, RNA and total protein of offsprings of deficient groups were significantly lower than control group, but RNA/DNA, brain weight/DNA, and total protein/DNA show that cell number were more affected than the cell size by the maternal dietary restriction during the third week of gestation and lactation. Between the deficient groups, there was a significant difference in brain DNA and RNA, but no significant difference in total brain protein. • 1. Objectives Among many symptoms that the climacteric patients complain of, the major subjective symptom is both heat in the upper part and cold in the lower part of the body(e.g foot, knee, and leg). We use DITI as a method to prove the symptoms of climacteric patients such as both heat in the upper part and cold in the lower part of the body, diagnose these symptoms, and follow up the progress of the clinical treatments. 2. Subjects and Methods We compare the subcutaneous heat of the climacteric patients with the symptom of heat in the upper part and cold in the lower part of the body with young women without any specific disease. The age distribution of the experimental group is 28 patients in 40's, and 22 in 50's. The mean age of the experimental group is $48.5{\pm}4.25$. The age distribution of the control group is 17 patients in teen, 26 in 20's, 7 in 30's. The mean age of the control group is $23.31{\pm}6.45$. We measure the subcutaneous heat on the cheeks, upper arms, palms, thighs, knees, dorsum pedis, lower back, hip, upper abdomen, lower abdomen of both groups and analyse the results. 3. Statistical methods All the results are statiscally analysed using student T-test of Microsoft Exel program. Statistically significant value by the analysis of variance procedure is P<0.05. 4. Results 1. The subcutaneous heat of the whole body of the experimental group shows hypothermia compared with control group, and the hypothermic pattern gets severe on the periphery. ${\Delta}T$ between the right and left side of the body in experimental group is larger than that of control group. 2. ${\Delta}T$ between the cheeks and the hypogastric in the experimental group is significantly larger than that of the control group, which shows cold face. 3. ${\Delta}T$ between the upper arms and the palms in the experimental group is significantly larger than that of the control group, which shows cold hand. 4. ${\Delta}T$ between the thighs and the knees in the experimental group is significantly larger than that of the control group, which shows cold knee. 5. ${\Delta}T$ between the thighs and the feet in the experimental group is significantly larger than that of the control group, which shows cold foot. 6. ${\Delta}T$ between the hip and the lower back in the experimental group is significantly larger than that of the control group. That shows the Lower back is warmer than the hip. 7. ${\Delta}T$ between the upper and the lower abdomen in the experimental group is significantly larger than that of the control group, which shows cold hypogastric.
