Development of Content Based Breast Tumor Image Retrieval System Using Multi Features (다중특징을 이용한 유방종양영상 내용기반검색 시스템 개발)

  • 현재 병리 의사에 의해 주관적으로 이루어지고 있는 병리 영상의 진단에 도움을 주기 위해 병리영상에서 객관적으로 추출 가능한 정보를 이용하여 유방종양 검색 시스템을 개발하였다. 다중 특징을 이용한 내용 기반 검색 방법을 사용하였으며, 영상에서 자동으로 추출 가능한 다양한 특징을 검색의 파라미터로 이용하였다. 진단에 도움을 주기 위해 전체 영상 뿐만 아니라 관심 있는 영역의 부분영상도 추출하여 검색이 가능하게 설계하였으며 시스템의 평가를 위해 단일 특징을 이용하여 영상을 검색 하였을 때와 다중 특징을 이용하여 영상을 검색 하였을 때의 검색율을 비교하였다. 향후 이 시스템은 병리영상의 진단에 있어 객관적이고 높은 재현성을 가지게 하는 보조도구로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

An Experimental Study on Semantic Searches for Image Data Using Structured Social Metadata (구조화된 소셜 메타데이터를 활용한 이미지 자료의 시맨틱 검색에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • We designed a structured folksonomy system in which queries can be expanded through tag control; equivalent, synonym or related tags are bound together, in order to improve the retrieval efficiency (recall and precision) of image data. Then, we evaluated the proposed system by comparing it to a tag-based system without tag control in terms of recall, precision, and user satisfaction. Furthermore, we also investigated which query expansion method is the most efficient in terms of retrieval performance. The experimental results showed that the recall, precision, and user satisfaction rates of the proposed system are statistically higher than the rates of the tag-based system, respectively. On the other hand, there are significant differences among the precision rates of query expansion methods but there are no significant differences among their recall rates. The proposed system can be utilized as a guide on how to effectively index and retrieve the digital content of digital library systems in the Library 2.0 era.

  • With recent progress of related multimedia computing technologies, it is necessay to retrieve diverse types of multimedia data based on multi-media content and their relationships. However, different from alphanumeric data, it is difficult to provide relevant multimedia information, be-cause multimedia contents and their relationships are implied in multimedia data. Therefore, in case of a multimedia news service system that is a representative multimedia application, most of new services provide relevant news about text articles and retrieval of multimedia news such as video news or image news are provided independently. In this paper, we present an XML-based multimedia news management system, which provides integrating, retrieval, and delivery of relevant multimedia news. Our data model composed of media object, relationship object, and view object represents diverse types of multimedia news content and semantically related multimedia news. In addition, a proposed view mechanism makes it possible to customize multimedia news, and therefore provides multimedia news efficiently.

  • In most database systems images have been indexed indirectly using related texts such as captions, annotations and image attributes. But there has been an increasing requirement for the image database system supporting the storage and retrieval of images directly by content using the information contained in the images. There has been a few indexing methods based on contents. Among them, Pertains proposed an image indexing method considering spatial relationships and properties of objects forming the images. This is the expansion of the other studies based on '2-D string. But this method needs too much storage space and lacks flexibility. In this paper, we propose a more flexible index structure based on kd-tree using paging techniques. We show an example of extracting keys using normalization from the from the raw image. Simulation results show that our method improves in flexibility and needs much less storage space.

Visualization System for Earth Environmental Data Base

  • The earth's environmental problems have attracted serious attention worldwide. Various kinds of environmental data, such as remote sensing data, have become available for examining. Although this data is crucial to understanding such problems, there has become an over-abundance in variety of size, format, and filetype which makes it difficult for researchers to handle. We feel that earth environmental researchers should not be burdened by such cumbersome tasks. Therefore, we are developing a digital library for earth environmental information and a VRML based data visualization system for it. Even now, content-based image retrieval systems have many problems attributed to the degree of difficulty in implementing them. Thus, we are trying to visualize this data so that researchers can utilize it more efficiently, effectively, and easily. A great advantage for VRML users is that people can see environmental data from any perspective above the earth and with any resolution easily. Also by using MPEG-movie, users can observe the changes of data drawn from time series files.

A Smart Image Classification Algorithm for Digital Camera by Exploiting Focal Length Information (초점거리 정보를 이용한 디지털 사진 분류 알고리즘)

  • In recent years, since the digital camera has been popularized, so users can easily collect hundreds of photos in a single usage. Thus the managing of hundreds of digital photos is not a simple job comparing to the keeping paper photos. We know that managing and classifying a number of digital photo files are burdensome and annoying sometimes. So people hope to use an automated system for managing digital photos especially for their own purposes. The previous studies, e.g. content-based image retrieval, were focused on the clustering of general images, which it is not to be applied on digital photo clustering and classification. Recently, some specialized clustering algorithms for images clustering digital camera images were proposed. These algorithms exploit mainly the statistics of time gap between sequent photos. Though they showed a quite good result in image clustering for digital cameras, still lots of improvements are remained and unsolved. For example the current tools ignore completely the image transformation with the different focal lengths. In this paper, we present a photo considering focal length information recorded in EXIF. We propose an algorithms based on MVA(Matching Vector Analysis) for classification of digital images taken in the every day activity. Our experiment shows that our algorithm gives more than 95% success rates, which is competitive among all available methods in terms of sensitivity, specificity and flexibility.

  • 본 논문에서는 Quadtree 구조를 기반으로 한 효율적인 색상 정보 추출과 영상 검색을 수행하는 시스템을 구현한다. 제시한 시스템은 원 영상으로부터 DC영상을 추출하고, DC 영상의 화소들을 RGB에서 HSV의 색상 좌표계로 변환한다. 변환된 영상에서 색상의 분포에 따라 Quadtree 형태로 영역을 분할하고 대표 색상을 추출한다. 마지막으로 추출한 색상과 그 색상의 분포에 따라 Quadtree 형태로 영역을 분할하고 대표 색상을 추출한다. 마지막으로 추출한 색상과 그 색상의 분포값을 영역의 위치에 따라 Quadtree의 단말 노드에 저장한다. 그리고, 사용자가 질의 영상을 주었을 때 Quadtree에 저장된 정보를 이용하여 본 논문에서 제안한 유사도 측정을 통하여 결과 영상을 보여준다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방법으로 실험한 결과 64개의 영역으로 나눈 방법에 비해 비교하는 평균 영역의 개수는 28.9개였고, 검색시간은 2~6초 정도 감소하였다. 또한, 전체 영상의 색상 정보 저장량도 25% 정도 줄어들었지만 질의에 대한 두 방법의 검색 결과는 유사하게 나타났다.

  • In this paper, we propose new features for describing texture images by using multi-channel Gabor filter and log-polar transform based on human visual system (HVS). Gabor features are extracted by the mean and standard deviation of energy in Gabor response, followed by Fourier series extension. Log-polar features are extracted by log-polar transform and projection. The proposed texture descriptor performs reasonably well with less number of features than other texture descriptors, which has been verified by experiments using some texture images of MPEG-7 data set.

  • This paper presents a 3-D graphic database system based on XML that supports content-based retrievals of 3-D images, Most of graphics application systems are currently centered around the processing of 2-D images and research works on 3-D graphics are mainly concerned about the visualization aspects of 3-D image. They do not support the semantic modeling of 3-D objects and their spatial relations. In our data model, 3-D images are represented as compositions of 3-D graphic objects with associated spatial relations. Complex 3-D objects are mode]ed using a set of primitive 3-D objects rather than the lines and polygons that are found in traditional graphic systems. This model supports content-based retrievals of scenes containing a particular object or those satisfying certain spatial relations among the objects contained in them. 3-D images are stored in the database as XML documents using 3DGML DTD that are developed for modeling 3-D graphic data. Finally, this paper describes some examples of query executed in our Web-based prototype database system.

Wine Label Recognition System using Image Similarity (이미지 유사도를 이용한 와인라벨 인식 시스템)

  • Recently the research on the system using images taken from camera phones as input is actively conducted. This paper proposed a system that shows wine pictures which are similar to the input wine label in order. For the calculation of the similarity of images, the representative color of each cell of the image, the recognized text color, background color and distribution of feature points are used as the features. In order to calculate the difference of the colors, RGB is converted into CIE-Lab and the feature points are extracted by using Harris Corner Detection Algorithm. The weights of representative color of each cell of image, text color and background color are applied. The image similarity is calculated by normalizing the difference of color similarity and distribution of feature points. After calculating the similarity between the input image and the images in the database, the images in Database are shown in the descent order of the similarity so that the effort of users to search for similar wine labels again from the searched result is reduced.
