  • Academic interest in the educational value of picturebooks for children and the narrative importance of peritexts have been increased. This study was conducted with the purpose of presenting the components for analyzing the picturebook peritext. To this end, the components of the peritext used in 11 previous studies that analyzed the peritext of picturebooks were comprehensively reviewed. Looking at the results of the study, the components used in previous studies were largely categorized into four categories, and according to the characteristics of the components within each category, they were classified into 'basic information', 'physical elements', 'positional elements', and 'content elements.' The first category, 'basic information,' includes the title, authors' name, publication information, award information, and dedication/acknowledgment, laudatory comment. The second category, 'physical elements,' includes the format, book binding, and quality of material. The third category, 'positional elements,' includes cover(front cover, back cover, spine), endpaper, title page, copyright page, dust jacket and belly band. The fourth category, 'content elements,' includes text, illustration, typography, layout and page shape. Through the results of this study, it is expected that research on the analysis and utilization of various picturebooks will be activated.

  • In most of the world, the current trend in information technology is for open data movement that promotes transparency and equal access. An opposite trend is observed in China, which has the world's largest Internet population. The country has implemented sophisticated cyber-infrastructure and practices under the name of The Golden Shield Project (commonly referred to as the Great Firewall) to limit access to popular international web services and to filter traffic containing 'undesirable' political content. Increasingly, tech-savvy Chinese bypass this firewall and use Twitter to share knowledge on censorship circumvention and encryption to collectively troubleshoot firewall evasion methods, and even mobilize actions that border on activism. Using a mixed mythological approach, the current study addresses such networked knowledge sharing among citizens in a restricted web ecosystem. On the theoretical front, this study uses webometric approaches to understand change agents and positive deviant in the diffusion of censorship circumvention technology. On policy-level, the study provides insights for Internet regulators and digital rights groups to help best utilize communication networks of positive deviants to counter Internet control.

  • Soil cement which is a mixture of soil, cement, and water has a broad range of applications since it is economical, ecological, and easy to use, repair, and reinforce. Its applications include pavements, stabilization of slopes, retaining walls, and improvements of soft ground to name a few. Other types of chemicals are often added to increase its strength. This study investigated unconfined compressive strength of cured soil cement mixed with New Soil Chemical(NSC). The investigation involved laboratory experiments under various conditions including soil type, cement content, and ratios of water to NSC. Results of the study show that NSC enhanced the unconfined compressive strength significantly, and the degree of enhancement was varied with test conditions.

  • One significant challenge that arises in social tagging systems is the rapid increase in the number and diversity of the tags. As opposed to structured annotation systems, tags provide users an unstructured, open-ended mechanism to annotate and organize web-content. In this paper, we propose a scheme for URL recommendation that is based on a folksonomy which is comprised of user-defined tags, URL-keywords and the category folder name as the major element. This scheme will be further improved and implemented on a browser extension that recommends to users the best way to classify a particular URL.

  • This study aims ai the extraction of what is universally to be taught in modern Korean Families and its scalization. That is, it attempts to provide the criterion by which we can determine what to teach adolescent in the family, not in society or school. For this purpose, this study firstly reviews the preceeding studies on the subject. As a result of the review, we postulate the hypothetical structure consisting of 11 domains. Secondary, we gather the parent's view on the topic by interviewing 496 parents with teenagers. On the basis of this study, we can construct the questionnaire(Likert scale; 5 point). After we conduct an extensive empirical research(346 parents) in order to generalize 195 items of the workedout questionnaire. We apply factor analysis(principal axis factoring, oblique (promax) rotation) in the verification of the validity. As the consequence, we select 66 items consisting, 10 factors, which explain 68% of common variance. We name the 10 educational factors extracted in the scale as follows ; The Sense of Value, Communal Society, Sex, Esteem for an ancestor & a traditional way of life, Parent-Child Relationship, the Culture life within the family, The Guide of Learning Way, Setting up the way of life, The control of one's life, Friendship. The reliability of the scale is the cronbach =0.91 which turns out to be satisfactory.

  • A Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, nonspore-forming bacterial strain, designated Gsoil $357^T$ was isolated from soil sample of a ginseng field in Pocheon Province (South Korea). The isolate contained Q-8 as the predominant ubiquinone and iso-$C_{16:0}$, iso-$C_{17:1}$ ${\omega}9c$, and iso-$C_{15:0}$ as the major fatty acids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 69.3 mol%. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain Gsoil $357^T$ was most closely related to Lysobacter gummosus (97.6%) and Lysobacter antibioticus (97.6%). However, the DNA-DNA relatedness value between strain Gsoil $357^T$ and its phylogenetically closest neighbors was less than 17%. On the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain Gsoil 357T should be classified as representing a novel species in the genus Lysobacter, for which the name Lysobacter ginsengisoli sp. novo is proposed. The type strain is Gsoil $357^T$ (=KCTC $12602^T$=DSM $18420^T$).

  • The waste seaweed from Gwangalli beach, Busan, Korea was utilized as biomass for ethanol production. Sagassum fulvellum (brown seaweed, Mojaban in Korean name) comprised 72% of the biomass. The optimal hyper thermal acid hydrolysis conditions were obtained as 8% slurry contents, 138 mM sulfuric acid, and $160^{\circ}C$ of treatment temperature for 10 min with a low content of inhibitory compounds. To obtain more monosaccharides, enzymatic saccharification was carried out with Viscozyme L for 48 h. After pretreatment, 34 g/l of monosaccharides were obtained. Pichia stipitis and Pichia angophorae were selected as optimal co-fermentation yeasts to convert all of the monosaccharides in the hydrolysate to ethanol. Co-fermentation was carried out with various inoculum ratios of P. stipitis and P. angophorae. The maximum ethanol concentration of 16.0 g/l was produced using P. stipitis and P. angophorae in a 3:1 inoculum ratio, with an ethanol yield of 0.47 in 72 h. Ethanol fermentation using yeast co-culture may offer an efficient disposal method for waste seaweed while enhancing the utilization of monosaccharides and production of ethanol.

  • A Gram-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped, nonmotile, endospore-forming bacterium, designated Gsoil $349^T$, was isolated from soil of a ginseng field and characterized using a polyphasic approach. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the strain Gsoil $349^T$ belongs to the family Paenibacillaceae, and the sequence showed closest similarity with Cohnella thermotolerans DSM $17683^T$ (94.1%) and Cohnella hongkongensis DSM $17642^T$ (93.6%). The strain showed less than 91.3% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Paenibacillus species. In addition, the presence of MK-7 as the major menaquinone and $anteiso-C_{15:0},\;iso-C_{16:0},\;and\;C_{16:0}$ as major fatty acids suggested its affiliation to the genus Cohnella. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 53.4 mol%. On the basis of its phenotypic characteristics and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain Gsoil $349^T$ should be treated as a novel species within the genus Cohnella for which the name Cohnella panacarvi sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Gsoil $349^T\;(=KCTC\;13060^T=\;DSM\;18696^T)$.
