A Comprehensive Representation Model for Spatial Relations among Regions and Physical Objects considering Property of Container and Gravity (Container 성질과 중력을 고려한 공간과 객체의 통합적 공간관계 표현 모델)

  • A space, real or virtual, comprises regions as its parts and physical objects residing in them. A coherent and sophisticated representaion scheme for their spatial relations premises the precision and plausibility in its associated agents' inferencing on the spatial relations and the development of events occurring in such a space. The existing spatial models are not suitable for a comprehensive representation of the general spatial relations in that they have limited expressive powers based on the dichotomy between the large and small scales, or support only a small set of topological relations. The representaion model we propose has the following distinctive chracteristics: firstly, our model provides a comprehensive representation scheme to accommodate large and small scale spaces in an integrated fashion; secondly, our model greatly elaborated the spatial relations among the small-scale objects based on their contact relations and the compositional relations among their respective components objects beyond the basic topological relations like disjoint and touch; thirdly, our model further diversifies the types of supported relations by adding the container property besides the soildness together with considering the gravity direction. The resulting integrated spatial knowledge representation scheme considering the gravity allows the diverse spatial relations in the real world to be simulated in a precise manner in relation to the associated spatial events and provides an expression measure for the agents in such a cyber-world to capture the spatial knowledge to be used for recognizing the situations in the spatial aspects.

  • Automation of a container terminal is a world-wide tendency nowadays. The interest of ACT (Automated Container Terminal) is increasing more and more because of necessity of container terminal with higher competitive power and ultramodern equipment to down the cost and up the efficiency. ECT (Europe Combined Terminals) and CTA (Container Terminal Altenwerder) have studied a detailed technique for the operation of ACT. In Korea, many projects related to the development of ACT are working at present. However, indiscreet introduction of ACT may cause tremendous loss. Thus it is much important thing that we search relevant automation level or type for an environment In this study, we propose the necessary strategy in developing ACT through analyzing the present condition, automated equipments and property of operation at advanced An. If the strategy is applied in development of domestic ACT, we'll be able to build ACT with higher competitive power.

  • Roadbed failure due to the rainfall may bring out social and economic demage such as the loss of life and property, the consumption of time and cost for recovery, and the delay of logistics in railway. In this study, the method using Geotextile Container was applied to rehabilitation of the railway roadbed which was failed by rainfall. The real scale tests with the simulated train loading were performed in order to evaluate the dynamic performance at the railway roadbed using Geotextile Container. The results of these tests were compared with unreinforced and reinforced cases with Geotextile Container, respectively. The data gathered by various measurement devices from these real scale tests would be useful to evaluate and understand the roadbed with Geotextile Container. Furthermore, the results of this study would be useful to ensure the workability and to save much time for restoration and to be widely applied to practical use.

Strain Decomposition Method in Hull Stress Monitoring System for Container Ship

  • The hull monitoring systems of container ships with four long-base gages give enough information for identifying the hull girder loads such as bending and torsional moments. But such a load-identification for container ships has not been known. In this paper, a load-identification method is suggested in terms of a linear matrix equation that the measured strain vector equals to the multiplication of the transformation matrix and the desired strain component vector. The equation is proved to be mathematically complete by the property of positive-definite determinant of the transformation matrix. The method is applied to a hull stress monitoring system for 8100TED container ship during sea trial, and the estimated external loads illustrate reasonable results in comparison with the pre-estimated results. This moment decomposition concept has also been tested in real operation conditions. The typical phenomena over the Suez Canal illustrated very suitable results comparing with the physical understandings. Henceforth, one can effectively use the proposed concept to monitor the hull girder loads such as bending and torsional moments.

  • This study was performed to investigated the application of mixed resins for corrugated container board. The corrugated container board yields a sandwich structure in which a linerboard material is glued to a corrugated medium . Now, manufacturing corrugated container boards don't provide sufficient strength, and result in box failure during shipping . Therefore improvement of box strength is necessary . In this study, we intend to improve box strength by improving corrugated medium strength with mixed resins and to find the optimum treatment condition of this resins. First, we tried to mixed resins as Starch+CMC, Starch_Irea, CMC+Urea, Second, investigated to applicability of this resins for corrugated medium , and the third, measured tensile index, burst index, and edgewise compression index on liner, medium paper, and single faced corrugated container board. In this test results, we obtained that the improvement ratios of tensile index in liner and medium paper were approximately 80-185%, 60-118% , respectively. The respecting improvement ratios of edgewise compression index of single faced corrugated container board was approximately 91-124%, relatively. In addition, we concluded that optimum condition in mixing ratio was 1 :3 with CMC + Urea and the ap[plication amounts was 9% on materials. Fro manufacture of corrugated container board, optimum condition in mixing ratio was 1 : 3 with 5% CMC +Urea , because of considering to improvement of strength on cost.

  • The concept of Container Terminal Service has been used in respect to port service until now. There is no necessity to distinguish container terminal service by concept or property. The purpose of this study is to develop the most appropriate Service Quality in the container terminal through empirical analysis such as existing theoretical studies, expertise survey and SAS program. It is necessary to show the way of evaluating Container Terminal Service's importance and Service Quality. This study intends to understand overall satisfaction survey by Container Terminal Service's evaluation through Regression Analysis where customer satisfaction will be the dependant variable.

A Study on Vulnerability for Isolation Guarantee in Container-based Virtualization (컨테이너 기반 가상화에서 격리성 보장을 위한 취약성 고찰)

  • Container-based virtualization has attracted many attentions as an alternative to virtual machine technology because it can be used more lightly by sharing the host operating system instead of individual guest operating systems. However, this advantage may owe some vulnerabilities. In particular, excessive resource use of some containers can affect other containers, which is known as the noisy neighbor problem, so that the important property of isolation may not be guaranteed. The noisy neighbor problem can threat the availability of containers, so we need to consider the noisy neighbor problem as a security problem. In this paper, we investigate vulnerabilities on guarantee of isolation incurred by the noisy neighbor problem in container-based virtualization. For this we first analyze the structure of container-based virtualization environments. Then we present vulnerabilities in 3 functional layers and general directions for solutions with limitations.

Location Tracking of Drifting Container by Solitary Wave Load Using a Motion Analysis Program

  • Objects adrift can cause considerable damage to coastal infrastructure and property during tsunami and storm surge events. Despite the potential for harm, the drifting behavior of these objects remains poorly understood, thereby hindering effective prediction and mitigation of collision damage. To address this gap, this study employed a motion analysis program to track a drifting container's location using images from an existing laboratory experiment. The container's trajectory and velocity were calculated based on the positions of five markers strategically placed at its four corners and center. Our findings indicate that the container's maximum drift velocity and distance are directly influenced by the scale of the solitary wave and inversely related to the container's weight. Specifically, heavier containers are less likely to be displaced by solitary waves, while larger waves can damage coastal structures more. This study offers new insights into container drift behavior induced by solitary waves, with implications for enhancing coastal infrastructure design and devising mitigation strategies to minimize the risk of collision damage.

  • High capacity container carrier has been considered for many decades to transport the more containers at the same time. Therefore, it is required for high capacity container ship to be applied thicker plate to accomodate a number of containers compared to that of general container ship. To maintain the same productivity of this thicker plate, new welding process should be considered. One of the process for vertical-up position is 2 electrodes EGW(Electro Gas Welding). 2 ectrodes EGW was applied and evaluated whether it can be applicable or not. The heat input used for 72mm thick plate was 520k11cm. from the mechanical test, it is considered that this process can be applicable, showing satisfaction of mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation and impact property.

Therefore, it is required for high capacity container ship to be applied thicker plate to accomodate a mumber of containers compared to that of general container ship. To increase productivity of welding, new welding process should be considered. A representive process for increase of weld productivity is EGW(Electrode Gas Welding) process. Both sides EGW process was evaluated for thicker-plate TMCP Steel. From the test result, it is considered that this process can be applied, showing satisfaction of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and impact property.
