Magnetically Suspended Contact-Free Linear Actuator for Precision Stage

  • With the development of precision manufacturing technologies, the importance of precision positioning devices is increasing. Conventional actuators, dual stage or mechanically contacting type, have limitation in coping with performance demands. As a possible solution, magnetic suspension technology was studied. Such a contact-free system has advantages in terms of high accuracy, low production cost and easy adaptability to high precision manufacturing processes. This paper deals with magnetically suspended multi-degrees of freedom actuator which can realize large linear motion. In this paper, the operating principle is explained with the magnetic force analysis, and the equations of motion are derived. Experimental results of the implemented system are also given.

액체-액체-기체 3상 접촉선에서의 와류에 의한 혼합 가시화 (Visualization of Vortex-induced Mixing at the Liquid-liquid-gas 3-phase Contact Line)

  • Although the motion of the three-phase contact line on a solid substrate has been extensively studied thus far, the understanding of the dynamics of the contact line of liquid/liquid/gas phases is far from complete. Here we deposit a drop of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) on water and HFE-7100 whose free surfaces are exposed to air to observe the flow field around the contact line. By combining the shadowgraph and high-speed imaging techniques, we find that vortices are spontaneously generated at the contact line, which grow in size with time. The flow is attributed to the Marangoni stress that pulls a liquid of lower-surface tension toward a liquid surface having a higher surface tension. However, it is not still clear why the entrained lower-surface-tension liquid should whirl rapidly beneath the contact line. We also visualize the flow by the particle image velocimetry (PIV) to find out that the rotational velocity reaches the order of 1 mm/s near the free surface.

The role of domestic tap water in Acanthamoeba contamination in contact lens storage cases in Korea

  • A survey was carried out from August to December 2004 in Pusan, Korea to document the presence of free-living amoeba (FLA), including the genus Acanthamoeba, in both contact lens storage cases and domestic tap water. Acanthamoeba was isolated from $5(4.2\%)$ in 120 contact lens storage cases. Four house tap water samples from residents, whose contact lens storage cases had been contaminated by Acanthamoeba, were also found to be contaminated with Acanthamoeba. Therefore, the contamination rate of FLA and Acanthamoeba in domestic tap water was investigated in order to examine the role of domestic tap water in Acanthamoeba contamination of contact lens storage cases. FLA and Acanthamoeba were identified in $97(46.8\%)\;and\;16(7.7\%)$ of the 207 domestic tap water samples, respectively. There were no significant differences between the contamination rates of FLA in tap water according to the filtration plant of origin. No FLA was detected in the tap water directly supplied by the water purification plants. Water storage tanks appear to promote FLA colonization, including Acanthamoeba, in domestic tap water. This increases the risk of Acanthamoeba contamination in contact lens storage cases as well as increasing the risk of Acanthamoeba keratitis.

  • Because of their low surface free energy and absence of polar groups at the surface, polyolefins are substrates whose wetting and adhesion are very difficult. Free radical grafting of monomers to backbone polymer is one of the most attractive ways for the chemical modification of polymers. Synthesis of graft copolymer through graft polymerizations of PE and/or PP with phthalic anhydride (PhAn) was made and FTIR spectra of the graft polymer were the examined. And also the effects of phthalic anhydride content on the grafting ratio, thermal properties and contact angle of the graft polymer were examined.

자동차용 CNG 충전니플의 밀봉접촉응력에 관한 유한요소해석 (Finite Element Analysis on the Sealing Contact Stress of a CNG Fueling Nipple for Vehicles)

  • 본 연구에서는 압축천연가스 자동차용으로 사용하는 CNG 충전니플의 밀봉성과 밀봉내구 안전성에 관련된 접촉법선응력 및 등가진응력을 유한요소법으로 해석하였다. 기존의 원형 오링과 새로운 더블립 오링에 초기압축률 15%를 가한 상태에서 밀봉력을 해석한 결과에 의하면, 두 곳에서 밀봉작용을 하는 더블립 오링이 한곳에서 밀봉작용을 하는 기존의 원형 오링보다 41% 더 높게 나타남을 알 수 있다. 오링에 초기압축력 15%와 가스압축압력 8MPa을 작용한 상태에서 가스누출 차단 안전성을 비교하면, 기존의 원형 오링보다는 더블립 오링에서 5% 향상된 해석결과를 제시하고 있다. 또한, 오링의 밀봉내구 안전성을 비교한 FEM 해석결과에 의하면, 원형 오링보다는 더블립 오링에서 발생된 최대등가진응력이 10.2%나 더 높게 발생한 것으로 나타났다. 이것은 더블립 오링이 기존의 원형 오링보다는 장수명을 보장할 수 있다는 것이다.

내연기관용 무연 핀부싱의 마찰특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Friction Characteristics of Pb-free Pin Bushing for an Internal Combustion Engine)

  • This paper presents the friction characteristics of pb-fres pin bushing bearings for an automotive gasoline engine. The external load is 100 N to 600 N and the speed of the pin bushing bearing is 1000 rpm to 3000 rpm against the rubbing surfaces. And the contact modes of rubbing surfaces between a piston pin and a pb-free pin bushing specimen are a dry friction, an oil lubricated friction and a mixed friction that is starved by a lack of engine oil. Two influential factors of a contact rubbing modes and a material property are very important parameters on the tribological performance of a friction characteristic between a piston pin and a pb-free pin bushing. The experimental result shows that the pin bushing speed of 2000 rpm shows a typical oil film lubricated sliding contact mode in which means that as the applied load is increased, the friction loss is increasing. But other contact mode depending on the speed and the load may affect to the fiction coefficient without a regular and uniform trend. In summary, the oil lubricated rubbing surface definitely decreases a running-in period in short and increase oil film stiffness, and this may leads the reduction of a friction loss.

실리콘 태양전지용 Ag pastes 에서의 무연 프릿에 따른 Ag, Si간 접촉 형성 (Contact Formation Between Ag and Si With Lead-Free Frits in Ag Pastes For Si Solar Cells)

  • Ag thick-film has usually been used for the front electrode of Si solar cells with the outstanding electrical properties. Ag paste consists of Ag powers, vehicles, frits and additives. Ag paste has broadly been screen-printed on the front side of Si wafer with the merits of low cost and simplicity. The optimal contact formation between Ag electrodes and Si wafer in the front electrode during a fast firing has been considered as the key factor for high efficiency. Although the content of frit in Ag pastes is less than 5wt%, it can profoundly influence the contact formation between Ag and Si under the fast firing. In this study, the effects of lead-free frits on the contacts between Ag and Si were studied with the thermal properties and compositions of various frits. Our experimental results showed that the electrical properties of cells were related to the interface structures between Ag and Si. It was found that current path of electrons from Si to Ag would be possible through the tunneling mechanism assisted by tens of nano-Ag recrystals on $n^+$ emitter as well as Ag recrystals penetrated into $n^+$ emitter layers. These preliminary studies will be helpful for designing the proper frits for the Ag pastes with considering the properties of various Si wafers.

디젤엔진용 핀부시 베어링 소재의 마찰특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Friction Characteristics of Pin-Bush Bearing Metals for Diesel Engine)

  • This paper presents the hardness and friction characteristics of pb-free pin-bush bearing metal, which is manufactured by a centrifugal casting technology. A bronze metal with a high hardness and low friction properties is usually used for Diesel engine pin-bush bearing and high pressure cylinder. Pb-free metal for pin-bush bearings shows a little high hardness of 120 Hv compared with that of a conventional Pb bearing metal of 100~110 Hv. In general, the friction coefficient of pin-bush bearings is affected by a rotating speed and a load for various rubbing contact modes. But a contact load is more influential parameter when the contact rubbing mode transits from a mixed lubrication to a dry friction contact. The experimental result shows that the friction coefficient is more unstable at the dry contact mode compared with that of other two rubbing modes such as oil film contact and mixed friction conditions.

휴대폰 통화기록 기반의 소셜 컨택 네트워크 구성 및 Scale-free 특성에 관한 분석 (Constructing a Social Contact Network based on Cellphone Call Records and Analysis of its Scale-free Property)

  • We consider a human contact social network that has connections through cellphone addresses. To construct such a social network, we use real call records provided by a large carrier, and connect to each other if there exists a call record between any two cellphone users. Due to its huge amount of data, we down-sample it in a way that the smallest-degree nodes are removed, in turn, from the network. For a moderate size of the networks we show that the degree distribution of the network follows a power-law distribution via linear regression analysis, implying the so-called scale-free property. We finally suggest some alternative measures to analyze a social network.

  • We developed a numerical method to analyze the contact-line problems, incorporating a dynamic contact angle model. We used level set method to capture free surface. The method is applied to the analysis of dynamic behavior of a droplet in DC electrowetting. The result is compared with an experimental data and result of perturbation method.
