Friction torques, electrical contact resistances and bearing temperatures were measured on high speed angular contact ball beatings for the spindle of machine tools. The test bearings ran with oil-air lubrication at the thrust loads from 320 N to 1920 N and at the rotational speed of up to 12000 rpm. Electrical contact resistances between balls and races were measured to evaluate the formation of the lubricant film in the contact area. The test results with sufficient lubrication showed that the variations of friction torques were sensitive to the thrust loads and the rotational speeds, and that the friction torques were higher than those with insufficient lubrication. With insufficient lubrication and high thrust loads, the collapse of the lubricant film was detected even at a high rotational speed. It was concluded that these high speed beatings to run in condition of fluid lubrication should require monitoring not only the temperature increase of the bearing but also the lubricant film formation in contact areas resulting from the change in the applied load and the lubricant amount.
Polycrystalline CdTe thin film has been studied for photovoltaic application due to the 1.45 eV band gap energy ideal for solar energy conversion and high absorption coefficient. The formation of low resistance contact to p-CdTe is difficult because of large work function(>5.5eV). Common methods for ohmic contact to p-CdTe are to form a p+ region under the contact by in-diffusion of contact material to reduce the barrier height and modify a p-CdTe surface layer using chemical treatment. In this study, the surface chemical treatment of p CdTe was carried out by H$\_$3/PO$\_$4/+HNO$\_$3/ or K$\_$2/Cr$\_$2/O$\_$7/+H$\_$2/SO$\_$4/ solution to provide a Te-rich surface. And various thin film contact materials such as Cu, Au, and Cu/Au were deposited by E-beam evaporation to form ohmic contact to p-CdTe. After the metallization, post annealing was performed by oven heat treatment at 150.deg. C or by RTA(Rapid Thermal Annealing) at 250-350.deg. C. Surface chemical treatments of p-CdTe thin film improved metal/p-CdTe interface properties and post heat treatment resulted in low contact resistivity to p-CdTe.Of the various contact metal, Cu/Au and Cu show low contact resistance after oven and RTA post-heat treatments, respectively.

Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) is an emerging technology that enables cost-effective and high-throughput nanofabrication. In ultraviolet (UV) NIL, low-cost and high-speed production can be achieved using a non-vacuum environment at room temperature and low pressure. However, there are problems with the formation of bubble defects in such an environment. This paper investigates the shape of the mold cavity and the bubble defect formation in UV NIL in a non-vacuum environment. The bubble defect formation was simulated using two-dimensional flow analysis and the VOF method for commonly used cavity mold shapes (rectangular, elliptical, and triangular). The characteristics of the resist flow front and various contact angles were also analyzed. The shape of the mold cavity had a very significant effect on the bubble defect formation. For all cavity shapes, a smaller contact angle with the mold and larger contact angle with the substrate decreased the possibility of bubble defect formation. The elliptical shape was the most effective for preventing bubble defect formation.
High-efficiency silicon solar cells have potential applications on mobile electronics and electrical vehicles. The fabrication processes of the high efficiency cells necessitate com placated fabrication precesses and expensive materials. Ti/Pd/Ag metal contact has been used only for limited area In spite of good stability and low contact resistance because of Its expensive material cost and precesses. Screen printed contact formed by Ag paste causes a low fill factor and a high shading loss of commercial solar cells because of high contact resistance and a low aspect ratio. Low cost Ni/Cu metal contact has been formed by using a low cost electroless and electroplating. Nickel silicide formation at the interface enhances stability and reduces the contact resistance resulting In an energy conversion efficiency of $20.2\%\;on\;0.50{\Omega}cm$ FZ wafer. Tapered contact structure has been applied to large area solar cells with $6.7\times6.7cm^2$ in order to reduce power losses by the front contact The tapered front metal contact Is easily formed by the electroplating technique producing $45cm^2$ solar cells with an efficiency of $21.4\%$ on $21.4\%\;on\;2{\Omega}cm$ FZ wafer.

Ni/Al ('/' denotes deposition sequence) contacts were deposited on Al-implanted 4H-SiC for ohmic contact formation, and the conduction properties were characterized and compared with those of Ni-only contacts. The thicknesses of the Ni and Al thin film were 30 nm and 300 nm, respectively, and the films were sequentially deposited bye-beam evaporation without vacuum breaking. Rapid thermal anneal (RTA) temperature was varied as follows : $840^{\circ}C$, $890^{\circ}C$, and $940^{\circ}C$. The specific contact resistivity of the Ni contact was about $^{\sim}2\;{\pm}\;10^{-2}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, However, with the addition of Al overlayer, the specific contact resistivity decreased to about $^{\sim}2\;{\pm}\;10^{-4}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, almost irrespective of RTA temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of the Ni contact confirmed the existence of various Ni silicide phases, while the results of Ni/Al contact samples revealed that Al-contaning phases such as $Al_3Ni$, $Al_3Ni_2$, $Al_4Ni_3$, and $Ab_{3.21}Si_{0.47}$ were additionally formed as well as the Ni silicide phases. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) spectrum showed interfacial reaction zone mainly consisting of Al and Si at the contact interface, and it was also shown that considerable amounts of Si and C have diffused toward the surface. This indicates that contact resistance lowering of the Ni/Al contacts is related with the formation of the formation of interfacial reaction zone containing Al and Si. From these results, possible mechanisms of contact resistance lowering by the addition of Al were discussed.

Surface recombination loss should be reduced for high efficiency of solar cells. To reduce this loss, the BSF (back surface field) is used. The BSF on the back of the p-type wafer forms a p+layer, which prevents the activity of electrons of the p-area for the rear recombination. As a result, the leakage current is reduced and the rear-contact has a good Ohmic contact. Therefore, the open-circuit-voltage (Voc) and fill factor (FF) of solar cells are increased. This paper investigates the formation of the rear contact process by comparing aluminum-paste (Al-paste) with pure aluminum-metal(99.9%). Under the vacuum evaporation process, pure aluminum-metal(99.9%) provides high conductivity and low contact resistance of $4.2\;m{\Omega}cm$, but It is difficult to apply the standard industrial process to it because high vacuum is needed, and it's more expensive than the commercial equipment. On the other hand, using the Al-paste process by screen printing is simple for the formation of metal contact, and it is possible to produce the standard industrial process. However, Al-paste used in screen printing is lower than the conductivity of pure aluminum-metal(99.9) because of its mass glass frit. In this study, contact resistances were measured by a 4-point probe. The contact resistance of pure aluminum-metal was $4.2\;m{\Omega}cm$ and that of Al-paste was $35.69\;m{\Omega}cm$. Then the rear contact was analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM).
The mechanism of various spherical particles formation from wide range of tribo-systerns is suggested and deduced by the action of micro-explosion on the basis of the thermally-activated wear theory, in which the flash temperature at contact could be reached clearly upto the material molten temperature due to the secondary activation energy from the exothermic reactions involving lubricant thermo-decomposition, metals oxidation, hydrogen reactions and other possible complex thermo-reactions at the contacts. Various shapes of spherical particles generated from the tribosystem can be explained by the toroidal action of micro-explosion accompanied with the complex thermo-chemical reactions at the contact surfaces or sub-surfaces.

Ni/Ti/Al multilayer system was tested for low-resistance ohmic contact formation to Al-implanted p-type 4H-SiC. Compared with conventional process using Ni, Ni/Ti/Al contact shows perfect ohmic behavior, and possesses much lower contact resistance of about $2.5\times10^{-4}\Omega{\cdot}cm^2$ after $930^{\circ}C$ RTA, which is about 2 orders of magnitude smaller than that of Ni contact. Contact resistance gradually increased as the RTA temperature was lowered in the range of 840 ~ $930^{\circ}C$, and about $3.4\times10^{-4}\Omega{\cdot}cm^2$ was obtained at the lowest RTA temperature of $840^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was shown that RTA temperature for ohmic contact formation can be lowered to at least $840^{\circ}C$ without significant compromise of contact resistance.

Ag thick-film has usually been used for the front electrode of Si solar cells with the outstanding electrical properties. Ag paste consists of Ag powers, vehicles, frits and additives. Ag paste has broadly been screen-printed on the front side of Si wafer with the merits of low cost and simplicity. The optimal contact formation between Ag electrodes and Si wafer in the front electrode during a fast firing has been considered as the key factor for high efficiency. Although the content of frit in Ag pastes is less than 5wt%, it can profoundly influence the contact formation between Ag and Si under the fast firing. In this study, the effects of lead-free frits on the contacts between Ag and Si were studied with the thermal properties and compositions of various frits. Our experimental results showed that the electrical properties of cells were related to the interface structures between Ag and Si. It was found that current path of electrons from Si to Ag would be possible through the tunneling mechanism assisted by tens of nano-Ag recrystals on $n^+$ emitter as well as Ag recrystals penetrated into $n^+$ emitter layers. These preliminary studies will be helpful for designing the proper frits for the Ag pastes with considering the properties of various Si wafers.

In this study. the friction transition diagram based on the effect of oxide layer formation on contact surface between TiN coated steel ball and uncoated steel disk was constructed. From the diagram. it can be seen that as the contact load increases. the contact number of cycle at the beginning of oxide layer formation decreases linearly and as the coating thickness increases and the surface roughness of steel disk increases under same contact load. that increases. For the coated ball specimen, a AISI 52100 steel ball was used and AISI 1045 steel was used for the disk counter part.
