Purpose: The aim of this study is to conduct a survey of dimethylformamide(DMF) content in polyurethane(PU)-based consumer products and provide the information for the PU manufacturer and company to prepare a countermeasure for improving the quality competitiveness. Methods: This study selected PU-based consumer products(toddler shoes, children's bag, children's play mat, safety gloves), which is closely used in everyday life, and analyzed the residual DMF content in the consumer products. Results: In this study, it was confirmed that the average DMF content of toddler shoes, children's bag, children's play mat and safety gloves are 38 ppm, 119 ppm, 396 ppm and 826 ppm, respectively. In addition, most of the samples were found to meet the internationally accepted standard of 1,000 ppm and the DMF contents were reduced from at least 63 % to 85 % with a single washing process. Conclusion: The domestic PU manufacturers should seek ways to reduce the DMF through their production facility applications and introducing new materials such as water-soluble PU, and preparing the process development for their quality competitiveness.
The purpose of this study is to analyze information search according to consumer's prior knowledge and degree of importance of products. Questionnare survey method was used in this research. The sample was taken from 548 university students in Seoul from 19th of June to 26th of June in 1997. Statistical methods used in this study were Frequency, Percentage, Regression and path Analysis. The major findings are summarized as follows; 1) The level of Consumer's prior knowledge showed somewhat middle. 2) Degree of importance of products showed in order of quality, A/S extension exchange price reliance of a manufacturing company a design etc. 3) Information search for the consumer's prior knowledge and importance showed high on the whole. The more prior knowledge consumer have the better they recognize for the importance of products. Therefore consumers are more likely to search information.
Fashion products are frequently purchased on impulse and are also one of the most popular product categories sold online. Online environment attributes can facilitate flow experiences that are described as an optimal psychological state reached during an engagement in activities (e.g., games and e-shopping). This study estimated the path model to examine the causal relationships among shopping mall attributes, flow, e-impulse buying, and consumer satisfaction for fashion products. A total of 598 usable questionnaires were obtained from college students who had purchased fashion products through the Internet. Data were analyzed by exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and path analysis using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The results showed that e-shopping mall attributes (visual attributes and product attributes) significantly influenced e-impulse buying (fashion-oriented impulse buying and promotion-oriented impulse buying) which was mediated by the consumer flow experience and then influenced by consumer satisfaction. In the path model, the flow was stimulated by shopping mall attributes, the e-impulse buying was influenced by flow, and the consumer satisfaction was influenced by e-impulse buying. Flow was the most highly related to the fashion-oriented impulse buying, and followed by the relationship of the flow and promotion-oriented impulse buying in the context of e-shopping for fashion products. A managerial implication was discussed for fashion product e-retailers to develop strategies on visual attributes and product attributes that could stimulate and increase the consumer flow to trigger impulse buying as well as consumer satisfaction.
To investigate the market potential for developing Gochujang(a traditional Korean hot pepper soybean paste) products in the UK including the European market, a qualitative consumer study utilizing focus groups was conducted on the $23rd{\sim}25^{th}$ of May, 2005. The focus group approach utilizes small groups of consumers and is very effective in determining the ways in which a product can be used, by examining consumer perceptions on the overall sensory properties of a product as well as variations in taste, flavour, and texture. A series of six consumer group studies were carried out in three different locations around the UK. Each group involved approximately eight respondents(a total of 48 respondents) and ran for at least 90 minutes. The respondents were recruited by specific criteria to achieve a cross-section of ages and genders. All respondents purchased, prepared, and ate home-cooked Oriental/Far Eastern cuisine. Consumer reactions to Gochujang in its traditional form, and in manufactured products, were explored in terms of appearance, texture, flavour, and taste the consumers' perceived uses and applications for products were also examined. Many consumers were familiar with ethnic cuisines such as Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indian, and Tex/Mex, already preparing these foods using various convenience products at home at least twice a week. However, Korean cuisine was not mentioned by any of the respondents. The Gochujang sauce presented during the interview had broad based appeal mainly as a dipping sauce, and to a lesser degree as a marinade. Traditional Gochujang has the potential to inspire consumers who are looking for novel and authentic world cuisine products. From the sensory evaluations of various prototypes developed according to consumer reactions during the focus group interviews, three prototypes(a sauce for chicken, dipping sauce type, and BBQ sauce type) were determined for further consumer preference studies.
This study is to assess the level or consumer's attitude or food safety and their effects on the purchase or environment friendly agricultural products. For these purposes, the survey was implemented to 550 adults who resided in Seoul and metropolitan area. As a results, a lot of respondents perceived the five food hazards, pesticides, food additives, BSE, chemical materials, GMOs as the severest food risks. Results revealed that women, the most educated, married, and the older respondents were more likely to be negative about food safely. And Also, consumer's knowledge of environment friendly agricultural products was lower than the median. The respondents who have bought environment friendly agricultural products were 80.5% of the entire respondents. Also, the educated and the consumers who had the knowledge of the environment friendly agricultural products started to purchase them. The consumers who had higher income, perceived the food hazards(BSE), assessed agricultural products safety negatively, had willingness to pay them and more knowledge of environment friendly agricultural products were likely to purchase them usually.
Consumer products are produced on the premise that consumers can use their products safely and effectively no matter how serious human errors they may make. However, different careers and educational experiences of them may induce diverse human errors when they want to use them. In that sense, not a few policies to reduce human errors may show some implications for human error prevention and industrial design of consumer products. In this paper, producers' safety efforts required by Product Liability(PL) Act were reviewed in view of human error prevention, and legal aspects of manufacturers' responsibility for consumer products were discussed in relation to Product Liability Act. Then, principal approaches for them were introduced under the title of System Safety Precedence. After that, major key points for preventing human errors related with consumer products - such as ergonomic design and effective labeling - were discussed with reference to ISO standards. Therefore, it was shown that all the efforts required by PL Act would be correspondent to human error prevention in the whole manufacturing processes if understood by ergonomists. To make a conclusion, it could be said that, for human error prevention, the principle of System Safety Precedence would be indispensable, and that all the efforts for preventing human errors should be systematically organized in Product Safety Management Systems.
The purpose of this study was intended to investigate influence of consumer's brand loyalty, competitor's brand price and brand switching intention in condition of discount sale of casual apparel products. The data for the study was obtained through the use of an experimental design which was $2{\times}[2{\times}2]$ mixed factorial design. The subjects were 730 college students. The data were analyzed by cluster analysis, ANOVA, simple interaction analysis and simple main-effect analysis. The following results were founded: First, The results indicated that the 3-way interaction effects among consumer's brand loyalty competitor's brand price and discount on brand switching of casual apparel products. Second, the results indicated that the 3-way interaction effects among consumer's brand loyalty competitor's brand price and discount on consumer preference of casual apparel products. These results indicated that low brand loyalty group on casual products showed high preference and high brand switching on competitors brand when competitor's brand price was lower than preferred brand price and discount type was absolute frame. High bran loyalty group on casual apparel products preferred and switched high competitor's brand when discount type was absolute frame.
Currently, the government selects products that are likely to cause harm to consumers as safety management targets and classifies them into three types: safety certification, safety confirmation, and supplier conformity verification. In addition, the government conducts safety surveys on products in circulation or accident products, and recalls products that are of great concern to consumer risks. In this paper, we have developed RAP (Risk Assessment method based on Probability), which is a probability based product risk assessment method, for the classification of safety management type of product and safety investigation, and have shown an application example. In this process, information is used for the CISS (Consumer Injury Surveillance System) of the Korean Consumer Agency. In addition, we apply the cluster analysis to classify the current supervised children products into three groups. Then, we confirm the effectiveness of RAP by comparing the result of RAP application, cluster analysis result and current safety management classification type. Also, we recognize the need to review the current safety management classification criteria for classifying products into three types.
