A number of documents containing important and useful knowledge have been generated over time in the construction industry. Such text-based knowledge plays an important role in the construction industry for decision-making and business strategy development by being used as best practice for upcoming projects, delivering lessons learned for better risk management and project control. Thus, practical and usable knowledge creation from construction documents is necessary to improve business efficiency. This study proposes a knowledge creating system from construction documents using text mining and the design comprises three main steps - text mining preprocessing, weight calculation of each term, and visualization. A system prototype was developed as a pilot study of the system design. This study is significant because it validates a knowledge creating system design based on text mining and visualization functionality through the developed system prototype. Automated visualization was found to significantly reduce unnecessary time consumption and energy for processing existing data and reading a range of documents to get to their core, and helped the system to provide an insight into the construction industry.

Maintenance is carried out over a long period of time, and various documents are utilized in the maintenance work. In maintenance work which is progressed simultaneously in a short period of time, it is important to provide relevant information to the parties in a timely manner. As the types of work increase, manager needs more time and effort to select and utilize the documents. It is necessary to have an information system that supports the person in charge by grasping work procedures for each construction and providing the necessary documents and information for that step. This paper proposes an process based nexus model that can provide necessary documents to the parties to the work steps by linking the maintenance work process and BIM. Through the nexus model presented, manager can efficiently acquire the necessary documents and utilize them for the construction works currently being carried out.

This paper describes how using the XPS Document technologies of Windows Vista support and enhances interactions with the structural design and construction process. It illustrates the document workflows and the document life cycle in a typical construction base knowledge system. It provides engineers and decision makers and implementers with information about this new technology and how they can apply it to their design and construction models. The paper also highlights opportunities for the new format of data exchange in the recent efforts to develop National Management System Standards for Transportation Applications to benefit from these emerging technologies.

국내에서는 건설공사지원정보체계의 활용을 촉진하고, 건설공사의 제반 단계에서 발생하는 정보의 상호교류를 촉진하기 위하여 통합건설정보 분류체계를 제안하고 있으나 효율적인 활용방안에 대한 연구의 미흡과 건설공사의 중요한 정보인 설계도서의 체계적인 통합관리를 위한 데이터베이스 (Database : DB) 중심의 전산관리시스템의 구축미비로 인하여 많은 문제점을 야기하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 건설정보 분류체계의 활용과 설계도서의 체계적인 통합관리를 위한 방안으로 데이터베이스 설계하고 이를 웹(Web)기반에서 관리할 수 있는 설계도서 통합관리 시스템을 구축 하였다.

Construction bid documents contain various errors or discrepancies giving rise to uncertainties. The errors/discrepancies/ambiguities in the bid document, if not identified and clarified before the bid, may cause dispute and conflict between the contracting parties. Given the fact that bid document is a major resource in estimating construction costs, inaccurate information in bid document can result in over/under estimating. Thus, any questions from bidders related to the errors in the bid document should be clarified by employers before bid submission. This study aims to examine the pre-bid queries, i.e., pre-bid request for information (RFI), from state DoTs of the United States to investigate error types most frequently encountered in bid documents. For the study, around 200 pre-bids RFI were collected from state DoTs and were classified into several error types (e.g., coordination error, errors in drawings). The analysis of the data showed that errors in bill of quantities is the most frequent error in the bid documents followed by errors in drawing. The study findings addressed uncertainty types in construction bid documents that should be checked during a bid process, and, in a broader sense, it will contribute to advancing the construction management body of knowledge by clarifying and classifying bid risk factors at an early stage of construction projects.

Construction documents or Data is highly valuable as the information that process are stored in. However it is not systematically manage to a document, productivity decrease and important information that can be reused to other projects is lost. The purpose of this study is a development for linked management prototype of construction data and documents that can manage to construction documents along with data, based on stored data, create second information. It is anticipated that searching time and efforts will be effectively reduced.

본 연구의 목적은 건설프로젝트에 관련된 기술문서(technical document)를 효율적으로 저장하고 웹(web)을 통하여 신속하고 정확하게 교환할 수 있도록 전자화(digitalization)하는 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 먼저 전자화 측면을 고려하여 기술문서의 여러 특성을 분석하였고 이를 바탕으로 저장에는 데이터베이스(database)를, 웹을 통한 교환에는 XML을 적용하여 기술문서를 전자화할 수 있는 방안을 도출하였다. 여기에는 기술문서의 저장과 검색, 부분적인 XML문서의 작성, 기술문서에 적합한 구성항목과 구성체계 설정, 웹에서의 수식과 그래픽 처리 방안이 포함된다. 마지막에는 전형적인 기술문서 중의 하나인 구조계산서(structural design sheets)를 대상으로 하여 데이터베이스에 저장하기 위한 자료구조(data structure) 정의, 실제 XML문서의 작성 및 웹을 통한 교환 등을 부분적으로 구현하여 본 연구에서 제안한 데이터베이스와XML에 기반한 기술문서 전자화 방안의 적정성을 검토하였다.

To improve the cost performance of construction sites, various systems and standards are constantly being developed and implemented. Although legal requirements for these system and standard improvements have been increasing, the cost efficiency performance of construction sites remains stagnant. We have digitized documents generated through construction supervision work at 39 building construction sites and proposed a model that can support decision-making in cost efficiency evaluation. This model selects key keywords that are considered to be highly related to cost efficiency by identifying the patterns and relationships of keywords through associated rule analysis and social network analysis using keywords derived from documents. In addition, it is expected to be used as a decision-making aid to determine the cost efficiency of a specific building construction site by establishing a logistic regression model using core keywords. As a systematic database of construction supervision documents and an integrated system of massive data generated by digital technology are established in the future, the accuracy and reliability of the cost efficiency evaluation model are expected to be reinforced.

For running various construction processing information and technological information, it is supplied by Construction CALS/EC systems properly during whole facilities life cycle. So it is urgently necessary to change Regional Construction 8t Management Office (RCMO) equipment construction administration business to electron processing system (CALS/EC). From construction work plan to completion, a present storage documents system is unsystematic. Therefore, it needs management system to store documents and to read in turn documents properly. This research suggest that it is to connect with various information systems and Construction CALS/EC for RCMO which is running public construction field. So it can be driven systematic and effective administration system about public construction business by Web-based present construction situation information system.

건설사업을 수행하면서 생성되는 각종 문서를 발주자, 설계자, 시공자 등 사업참여주체간에 보다 효율적으로 교환 및 공유하기 위해 XML 기반의 전자문서 표준 체계를 정립하는데 필요한 사항을 규정하였다. 이를 바탕으로 현업에서 일관되게 XML 전자문서를 개발하기 위해 적용 방안을 마련하였다.
