The construction workers might be at the risk of many occupational injuries and illnesses. To protect workers from various hazards, industrial health and hygiene systems were specified for the construction workers by law. It is important to know the actual health and safety(H&S) conditions by tasks and the characteristics of injuries and illnesses of construction workers. This study was designed to investigate the actual conditions of construction workers exposed to various harmful substances and work elements including evaluation of health status of each worker and general H&S system. Questionnaire was sent to 600 construction workers nationwide and totally 367 people responded to it having 61.67% of response rate. The common construction hazards were dust(29.6%), noise(19.3%), repetitive motions(12.0%), handling excessive heavy materials(11.2%) in order. The repetitive motions and handling heavy materials related to muscle disorders accounted for 23.2%. The accident and injury types were in order of overexertion, falling, overturning, dropping or flying, electric shock, collision, etc.

Amid the rapidly changing constructional business conditions, the volume of BTL business sectors has expanded largely during two or three years. Especially, construction works fur educational facilities of elementary, middle and high schools has been performed by the mid-sized construction companies who are not capable of doing effective and systematic quality management while the requirements of the customers are getting higher and higher. In order to have a flexible deal with the rapidly changing business conditions and also to enhance the quality level, it is the high time to reorganize the effective quality management systeme by doing the overall analysis about the quality defects in construction site. Accordingly through the investigation about the quality defects in the construction sites of domestic educational facilities, this study will focus on what kind of quality defects show. It is aimed at providing the preliminary data for the establishment of quality management fur the construction site of the domestic educational facilities by analysing the investigation results.

Competition among building contractors in the Korean construction environment has been increasing lately, and with the recent conclusion of the FTA between Korea and the United States, further advancement in the systems of construction, bidding and contract awarding is expected to be facilitated in the long term. Considerable changes are also expected particularly in the construction management (CM) market. Given these drastic changes, it has become more noticeable that the role of CM is enlarged in terms of time, cost, quality, risks and others to guarantee the Korean competitiveness against the global construction market. This study analyzed the current status of domestic CM companies via SWOT analysis and, based on such analysis, established development strategies for CM contractors. The strategies proposed in this study will be utilized by CM companies as basic materials in their future strategies in a short, mid and long term perspective respectively for competitive advantages in the market.

In this study, we recognize that the interest about construction safety and disaster increases, and check the status of current research about construction safety. And we obtain the direction of future researches and implications for development. For this study, we analyzed the published researches in the last 11 years about construction safety, and addressed annual trends and research topics for a lot of construction safety research. And the future prospects of construction safety research were analyzed with the latest news articles.
