  • Dynamic contact of a cantilever beam with Sap at the end is discussed. The gap in a structure induces dynamic contact, and the contact problem is always accompanied by inequality constraints which mean that the solution of the structure with contact condition should satisfy variational inequality. Inequality, but, can be reduced to equality condition considering convex penalty function. In this paper, formulation of a beam with contact is derived using quasi convex penalty function. General coordinate solution which is needed to increase computational efficiency is applied. Nonlinear behavior of a beam with rigid and elastic contact condition was discussed.

  • This paper presents a problem that reconfigure distribution power system using branch exchange method. Optimal reconfiguration problem calculates line loss, voltage condition about system states of all situations that become different according to line On/off status, and search for optimum composition of these. However, result is difficult to be calculated fast. Because radiated operation condition of system is satisfied using many connection and sectionalize switches in the distribution power system. Therefore, in this paper, optimization method for reducing system total loss and satisfying operating condition of radial and constraints condition of voltage is proposed using the fastest branch exchange. And optimal solution at branch exchange algorithm can be wrong estimated to local optimal solution according to initial operating state. Considering this particular, an initial operating point algorithm is added and this paper showed that optimal solution arrives at global optimal solution.

  • In this paper, the well-conditioned observer is designed to be insensitive to the ill-conditioning factors in transient and steady-state observer performance. A condition number based on $L_2-norm$ of the eigenvector matrix of the observer matrix has been proposed on a principal index in the observer performance. For the well-conditioned observer design, the non-normality measure and the observability condition of the observer matrix are utilized. The two constraints are specified into observer gain boundary region that guarantees a small condition number and a stable observer. The observer gain selected in this region guarantees a well-conditioned and observable property. In this study, this method is applied to the Luenberger observer and Kalman filters. In designing Kalman filters for small order systems, the ratio of the process noise covariance to the measurement noise covariance is a design parameter and its effect on the condition number is investigated.

  • The objective of this study is to enhance neural-network guidance to consider the impact condition. The optimal impact condition in this study is defined as an head-on attack. Missile impact-angle error, which is a measure of the degree to which the missile is not steering for a head-on attack, can also have an influence on the final miss distance. Therefore midcourse guidance is used to navigate the missile, reducing the deviation angle from head on, given some constraints on the missile g performance. A coordinate transformation is introduced to simplify the three-dimensional guidance law and, consequently, to reduce training data. Computer simulation results show that the neural-network guidance law with the coordinate transformation reduces impact-angle errors effectively.

  • The reliability of power electronic systems becomes increasingly important, as power electronic systems have gradually gained an essential status in a wide range of industrial applications. Accordingly, recent research has made an effort to improve the reliability of power electronic systems to comply with stringent constraints on safety, cost, and availability. The condition monitoring of power electronic components is one of the main topics in the research area of the reliability of power electronic systems. In this paper, condition-monitoring methods of reliability-critical components in power electronic systems are discussed to provide the current state of knowledge by organizing and evaluating current representative literature.

  • This paper proposes shape design of frame structures for vibration suppression and weight reduction. The $H_{\infty}$ norm of the transfer function from disturbance sources to the output points where vibration should be suppressed, is adopted as the performance index to represent the magnitude of vibration transfer. The design parameters are the node positions of the frame structure, on which constraints are imposed so that the structure achieves given tasks. For computation of Pareto optimal solutions to the two-objective design problem, a number of linear combinations of the $H_{\infty}$ norm and the total weight of the structure are considered and minimized. For minimization of the scalared objective function, a Lagrange function is defined by the objective function and the imposed constraints on the design parameters. The solution for which the Lagrange function satisfies the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker condition, is searched by the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

  • A numerical method is presented for the dynamic analysis of cam and follower. Contact and separation between the cam and the follower are analyzed by imposing dynamic contact condition. The correct solution is obtained without spurious oscillation by imposing the velocity and acceleration constraints as well as the displacement constraint on the possible contact point. The constraints are satisfied by iteratively reducing the constraint errors toward zero, and a simple time integration of ordinary differential equation is employed for the solution of the equation of motion. The solution procedure associated with the iterative scheme is presented, and numerical simulations are conducted to demonstrate the accuracy of the solution.

  • In this study, the 'force density method' for shape finding of cable net structures is presented. This concept is based on the force-length ratios or force densities which are defined for each branch of the net structures. This method renders a simple linear 'analytical form finding' possible. If the free choice of the force densities is restricted by further condition, the linear method is extended to a nonlinear one. The nonlinear one can be applied to the detailed computation of networks. In this paper, the general inverse matrix is introduced to solve the nonlinear equilibrium equation including Jacobian matrix which is rectangular matrix. Several examples for linear and nonlinear analysis applied additional constraints are presented. It is shown that the force density method is suitable for form finding of cable net and the general inverse matrix can be applied to solve the nonlinear equation without Lagrangian factors.

  • The issue of capacity constraint resources (CCR) or bottlenecks wandering in product mix decision by applying Theory of Constraints (TOC) management philosophy has been mentioned and demonstrated in several papers. In this study, the effect for prolonging the planning period (PPP) so as to stabilize the CCR is investigated. The results show that the effect for PPP alternative will be positive or negative which is depending on the environment condition. However, a majority cases which have positive effect for PPP alternative can be recognized prior knowing the marketing demand, which is significant in the real application.

  • An anti-reset windup (ARW) based compensation method for state constrained control systems is studied. First, a linear controller is constructed to give a desirable nominal performance ignoring state-constraints of a plant. Then, an additional compensator is introduced to provide smooth performance degradation under state-constraints of the plant. This paper focuses on the effective design method of the additional compensator. By minimizing a reasonable performance index, the proposed compensator is expressed in terms of theplant and ocntroller parameters. The resulting dynamics of the compensated controller exhibits the dominant part of the linear closed-loop system which can be seen from the singular perturbation model reducton theory. THe proposed method guarantees total stability of overall resulting systems if linear controllers were constructed to meet certain condition.
