In Sasang Constitution Medicine (SCM), it is most important that a personal SCM type is determined accurately ahead of applying any Sasang treatments. Although SCM doctors have districted personal SCM types in many hospitals and universities via their own discriminant, it still lacks objective criteria on diagnosis of SCM type. Therefore, many researchers have been studied to diagnose the SCM type using constitutional clinical data. Previous work, we have developed decision tree program to analyze the clinical information. In this paper, we developed a clinical index program based on the web to analyze the correlation among clinical information. Finally, we identified useful factors(4 clinical indexes) which have significant influence on SCM types using clinical index program with previously developed decision tree program.
Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate clinical factors of SQD syndrome by tracking plasma gut hormone (active ghrelin, active Glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1), pancreatic polypeptide(PP), total peptide YY(PYY)) profiling of pre-post prandial standard meal between SQD group and normal group. Methods A total of 24 adult participants were consecutively recruited on April 2014. They were diagnosed as either by SQD syndrome or normal by Spleen Qi Deficiency Questionnaire (SQDQ). On the experimental day, blood samplings of 2 ml were repeatedly collected at 6 points from 2 groups for measuring plasma levels of gut hormones. At every point, subjective appetite sensations were self-registered. Results & Conclusions 1. There were significantly lower subjective 'Appetite' (p=0.012) and higher 'Satiety' (p=0.012) in SQD group. At each time point, subjective 'Appetite' was significantly lower at 60 min after breakfast (p=0.034) and 'Satiety' were significantly higher at 15 min (p=0.020) and 120 min (p=0.044) after breakfast in SQD group. 2. There were no significant differences in plasma levels of gut hormones (active ghrelin, active GLP-1, PP, total PYY) between SQD and normal group. Also at each time point, there were no significant differences of plasma levels of gut hormones between SQD and normal group. 3. Changes in plasma levels of gut hormones compared to baseline were not significantly different at each time point between SQD and normal group. Plasma PYY levels compared to baseline increased in SQD group following 15 min and 30 min after breakfast but decreased in normal group. 4. Further investigation is needed to construct gut hormone profiling and in this perspective, we can approach evaluation tool on variable appetite in Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) syndrome in the future.

The purpose of this study was to find out how sleep characteristics by Sasang constitution (SC) appear in Vietnamese immigrant women in Korea, and how sleep aberration by SC affected the quality of life. The number of 217 Vietnamese immigrant women joined this study. We surveyed SC with Korea Sasang Constitutional Diagnostic Questionnaire (KS-15) and sleep characteristics with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) questionnaire. We evaluated quality of life(QoL) with Euro Quality of Life-5Dimension(EQ 5D) questionnaire. A Chi-square test and a one-way ANOVA test were conducted according to SC, and T test also used to compare PSQI groups. Significant p was .05. The number(rate) of Taeeumin(TE), Soeumin(SE), and Soyangin(SY) were 40(18.4%), 55(25.3%), and 122(56.2%) respectively. The distribution of obstructive factors of sleep were significantly different according to SC(Too Cold in Sleeping, x =13.378, p=.037, Too Hot in Sleeping x2=12.834, p=.046). The distribution of daytime drowsiness(x2=15.379, p=.018) and falling concentration power (x2=17.533, p=.008) was significantly different according to SC. The sleep status of the subjects showed a significant negative correlation with the EQ 5D Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) (r =-.399, p<.001), and the EQ 5D Index (r=-.211, p=.002). In the EQ VAS, TE showed a difference between the good and bad sleeping groups (t=3.955, p<.001). SE showed a difference between the two groups in the EQ 5D Index (t=2.332, p=.037). SY did not show a difference between the two groups. This study reveals that sleeping is closely related with QoL and distribution of obstructive factors of sleep may be different according to SC. Further study to confirm the constitutional difference in race at Vietnam is needed.

In the case of meeting frequency of friends, Hwa-Byung group was higher than none Hwa-Byung group and it was significant. 3. In the case of existence of negative influencing people, the rate of Hwa-Byung group was higher than that of none Hwa-Byung group. Among them, Interfere, Blame, Discomfort and Indifferent were significant. Conclusions: Hwa-Byung may have correlationship with Sasang Constitution, meeting frequency of friends and existence of negative influencing people.
The purpose of this study is to find a classification method with high accuracy in regard with sasang constitutional diagnosis. The BMI, blood pressure, pulse wave, and Sasang constitution diagnosed by a specialist was collected from 2848 subjects who were apparently healthy. Through a selective procedure, the data of 1635 subjects was used in the analysis. The results with the classification methods such as the discriminant analysis, regression, decision tree and neural network were compared with the diagnosis of a Sasang constitutional specialist. In result, the discriminant analysis method was hard to qualify the assumption of the equality of covariance matrices within constitutional groups. Moreover, without BMI, the decision tree and neural network methods were very sensitive to the change of the analysis data. Therefore, the Logistic regression and the decision tree is recommended on condition that the decisive factors of constitution are well concerned.
1. Objectives This research is purposed to present developmental direction of traditional Korean medicine, through summarizing original medical mind of traditional Korean medicine. 2. Methods It was researched as bibliographic study with chief writings of traditional Korean medicine such as "DongEuiBoGam(東醫寶鑑)" and "Dongyi Suse Bowon(東醫壽世保元)" 3. Results and Conclusions (1) Huh Jun regarded Three Precious(三要: 精, 氣, 神) as important factors in Morpho-imaginary viewpoints. So he suggested finding out the pathological states according to the states of Three Precious. (2) As Huh Jun recognized that the essence(精) is the origin of the body, he suggested the medical mind of laying emphasis on the essence. And he suggested that circulating of the essence is important to health and longevity, which is different from previous trational medicne laying emphasis on the tonifying of five organs(五臟). (3) Dong-mu suggested diagnostic method that is to find out "Natural Principle of Organ(臟腑性理)" by observation of "Knowing-Acting(知行)" and "Morphological aspect and Temper(體形氣像)". And he suggested finding out pathological states according to states of "Good Qi of each constitution(體質正氣)". (4) Dong-mu recognized that the disease should be treated by recovering "Good Qi of each constitution" with both pharmacotherapy and non-pharmacotherapy. So he uggested the medical mind of laying emphasis on "Good Qi of each constitution", which is different from previous trational medicne laying emphasis on the tonifying of five organs. (5) To be brief, Huh Jun layed emphasis on the essence and Dong-mu layed emphasis on "Good Qi of each constitution". Emphasizing internal vitality which is applyed to treatment and prevention of disease is the original medical mind of traditional Korean medicine.
Objectives This study aimed to examine the differences in the distribution of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and cold hypersensitivity in the hands and feet(CHHF) according to Sasang constitution, and to determine whether CHHF and MetS have an inverse association. Methods MetS and its components, CHHF, Sasang constitution data from 1,998 participants in the Korean medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort study(KDCC) were obtained. The participants were divided into a non-CHHF(n = 1,270, 63.6%), intermediate(n = 220, 11.0%) and CHHF(n = 508, 25.4%) group according to the thermal sensitivity questionnaire. Sasang constitution was diagnosed by Korea Sasang Constitutional Diagnostic Questionnaire(KS-15). One-way ANOVA and the chi-square test were used for participants' general characteristics and thermal sensitivity and MetS related factors. ANCOVA and logistic regression were used to compare the differences and the odds ratios(ORs) for MetS and its components. Results The MetS and CHHF prevalence rates of the Taeeumin, Soeumin, and Soyangin were 27.6%, 3.8%, 7.7%, and 18.3%, 42.3%, 26.4% respectively. The ANCOVA for MetS components showed that the waist circumference was significantly lower in the CHHF group as compared to the non-CHHF group in total and Soyangin. The logistic regression for MetS prevalence showed that CHHF had a significant inverse association in total(OR = 0.611) and Taeeumin(OR = 0.521). Conclusions The MetS prevalence had the highest in Taeeumin, followed by Soyangin and Soeumin, while the prevalence of CHHF was highest in Soeumin, followed by Soyangin and Taeeumin. In addition, it was confirmed that CHHF and MetS had an inverse association independently.
Objectives This study was to identify the lifestyle associated with metabolic syndrome and to suggest a personalized health management according to the constitution to prevent disease by metabolic syndrome stage. Methods This study used the data of Korean medicine Data Center (KDC). A total of 8,985 data were searched for subjects who participated in Anseong and Ansan cohorts study from 2009 to 2012. We analyzed 2,602 participants that diagnosed with metabolic syndrome among the ages of 30 to 55. We divided into three groups, none, pre-metabolic syndrome (Pre-MetS), and metabolic syndrome (MetS), according to number of metabolic syndrome elements. Results The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was highest in Taeumin (Pre-MetS: 48.2%, MetS: 41.2%). The risk factors for metabolic syndrome are dietary amount, speed of eating, and sleep quality in Taeumin, and dietary amount and sleep quality in Soyangin. Conclusions The life style affecting the metabolic syndrome were different according to the constitution. It is necessary to manage life style considering the Sasang constitution
