We statistically analyzed the relationship between the constitution and the refineness and tactile of skin depending on sex and age, using 1079 clinical data registered to SCIB(Sasang constitution Information Bank), and the following results are obtained: The thickness of skin has big discrimination ability in classification of Taeeumin and Soyangin, especially in women and in ages 21 or more. The stiffness of skin also has big discrimination ability in classification of Taeeumin and Soeumin, especially in Taeumin women and Soeumin man and in ages 21-60. The differences stated above have been proved to be meaningful enough by Chi-square test.

This clinical study is designed to find the characteristics of heat and cold according to Sasang Constitutions by using a statistical analysis. The study was conducted based on the questionnaire sheets and medical history (clinical data) of 1080 people registered at Sasang Constitution Information Bank (SCIB). The total number of people registered at SCIB was 1083; however, 3 Taeyangin's data were excluded in this study. The statistical analyses results on these data were: Most Taeumins have warm limbs, while Soeumins have cold ones. Taeumin, and Soyangin do not like hot weather, while Soyumin doesn't like coldness. As soeumins' body temperature is relatively lower than that of other constitutions, they tend to sleep tightly under blankets or comforters. Taeumin tend to drink more water because they sweat a lot; while Soeumin drink smaller amount of water because they sweat less. Both Taeumin, and Soyangin like cold food, but Soeumin liked hot food. Soeumin showed strong tendency for hot and cold food, while other constitutions displayed less inclination toward the certain temperature of food. Soeumin certainly had the remarkable response toward changes in heat and cold than other constitutions. The differences written above were proved to be meaningful enough by Chi-square test.

Objectives This study was performed to make a short-form of Sasang Constitution Questionnaire for Patient(SSCQ-P). Methods In order to select important questions of SSCQ-P, we got advice from 10 professors of Oriental Medicine. As a result, we chose 37 questions. In addition, we selected 69 questions which had been used more than 12 times in SSCQ-P as the variable. We used some statistical methods to reduce questions. Finally, a total of 40 questions were selected. To find diagnostic accuracy rate of this short-form, discriminant analysis was performed. We used 1378 cases which was collect ed from February 2008 to June 2013 by online system(Sasang-medi data which has selected by web site, http://www.sasangmedi.or.kr), and 68 cases which was collected from November 2006 to September 2007 by the research "Construction of a biological information collection system for the Constitutional scientific diagnosis"(Korea Constitutional Multicenter Bank data, KCMB data) Results We made a short-form of SSCQ-P consisting of 40 questions. Diagnostic accuracy rate of short-form is 66.18% using Sasang-medi data, and 42.65% using KCMB data. Conclusions More cases are needed to improve the diagnostic accuracy rate of this short-form.
