Geotextile tube technology has been perceived as an economical solution for liquid sludge treatment, and analyzing its consolidation behavior is necessary to be able to evaluate the dewatering capabilities of large geotextile tubes filled with contaminated soil, tailings, sewage sludge, and so on. The objectives of this study are to present a method that can adequately convey the consolidation behavior of geotextile tubes filled with sewage sludge, and to investigate the effects of various geotextile tube consolidation parameters. In this study, variable coefficients of consolidation are utilized to analyze the consolidation process of geotextile tubes filled with sewage sludge. The consolidation solution was verified by comparing the measured and predicted data from a hanging bag test conducted in the literature. After verifying the proposed solution, the consolidation parameters of a geotextile tube composed of a woven polypropylene outer layer and a non-woven polypropylene layer filled sewage sludge were obtained. Using the obtained parameters, the consolidation behavior of a large-scale composite geotextiles tube was predicted.
It is very important to determine the consolidation rate of ground, depending on the progress of time in applying this vertical drain method. Various consolidation analysis solutions capable of forecasting the consolidation rate are being proposed at the moment. However, the degree of consolidation measured from site, has a considerable different from the degree of consolidation which was obtained by the analysis of vertical drain consolidation. This study aims at assessing the applicability and verfication of each consolidation analysis solution by comparing and analyzing the degree of consolidation measured in the field and the degree of consolidation based on the theoretical equation for the analysis of the consolidation of Hansbo, Onoue, Zeng and Xie used as the consolidation analysis solution before the beginning of construction, on the basis of monitored field results and site investigation data as to the deep soft ground in Busan area applied by PBD method.

Several researchers have developed a number of theoretical time factors to determine the coefficient of consolidation by biezocone excess pore water dissipation test in soft clay deposits. However, depending on the assumptions and analytical techniques, the estimated coefficient of consolidation could be in a considerably wide range even for a specific degree of consolidation. These solutions are obtained from an initial excess porewater pressure distribution which can be determined from. either the cavity expansion theory or the strain path method. The 야ssipation of the initial excess porelvater pressure has been usally simulated by means of linear-uncoupled consolidation analysis and then the dissipation curve is normalized by the initial excess porewater pressure for easy use. However. since there is no guidelines or rules on which method gives the best solution for obtaining the coefficient of consolidation from the dissipation curve, the final selection was only based on engineer's extrience and Judgements. Thus, such an arbitrary selection might be inappropriate for a specific site to characterize the consolidation behavior. In this paper, we reviewed various theoretical time factors and, based on this consideration, we mentioned needs for researches in selecting a specific solution that is compatible for Korean clays. Also we listed some source of errors that can be encountered in the procedure of dissipation analysis.

This paper reviews depositional environments and consolidation characteristic of Soft Dredged Clay fill and then analytical solution of self-weight consolidation is made to find consolidated state. It's known that Soft Dredged Clay Ground is in the under-consolidated state under $U{\fallingdotseq}30%$ from analytical solution. It is effective for higher consolidation rate that the time of Dredge is shorter ani the time of leave is longer. It is conclude that the under-consolidated state should be considered in prediction of consolidation settlement.
A governing equation of uncoupled three dimensional finite strain theory of consolidation is presented. This equation is suitable for relatively thick layers, possessing large strain, non-linear material property, and variable permeability. A special numerical solution procedure has to be adopted for the finite difference scheme because the solution is not stable in using Forward-Time Centered-Space (FTCS) method and the governing equation is highly non-linear. The solution is capable of predicting settlement with respect to time. The results predicted by the developed method of analysis have been compared with those of experimental tests on different types of highly compressible soils with vertical wick drain. The uncoupled three dimensional finite strain theory of consolidation appears to predict settlement behavior well. A detailed comparison shows good agreement in terms of total settlement, and reasonable agreement with respect to time.

This paper reviews depositional environments, consolidation characteristic of marine deposits along the Nam-Yang river mouth and then analytical solution of self-weight consolidation is made to find consolidated state. This area has been deposited through the short geological age(22year). It's deposition rate is as high as 70cm/year and the height of deposition may be $3{\sim}12m$. It's known that this area is in the under-consolidated state from OCR and analytical solution. It is conclude that the under-consolidated state should be considered in prediction of consolidation settlement.

Nonlinear finite element analyses of one dimensional consolidation problem were performed using an anisotropic hardening constitutive model. For the analyses, the anisotropic hardening elasto-plastic constitutive model based on the generalized isotropic hardening(GIH) rule was implemented into a nonlinear finite element analysis program, PLASTIC. In order to preserve the accuracy of the finite element solution for nonlinear problems, an implicit stress integration algorithm was employed. A consistent tangent moduli could also ensure the quadratic convergence of Newton's method. As a result, the nonlinear solution was accurately calculated and was converged to be asymptotically quadratic. In a consolidation problem, the relationship between load and settlement and between settlement and time vertical was analyzed comparing with results using the Cam-clay type model and the final consolidation settlement and the duration of primary consolidation could be evaluated rigorously using the GIH constitutive model.

For a commonly used piezocone with a shoulder filter element, dilatory dissipation behavior, which shows an initial temporary increase in pore pressure, has been observed in overconsolidated cohesive soils. However, there is no appropriate way to estimate a consolidation parameter from a dilatory dissipation curve because currently available interpretation methods were developed based on the monotonic decrease of the excess pore pressure. In this study, the interpretation method for evaluation of coefficient of consolidation from a dilatory dissipation result of piezocone test was developed by performing the finite difference analysis on the dissipation after cone penetration. The distribution of the initial excess pore pressure induced by cone penetration, which is the core of the analysis, was estimated from the empirical modification of a solution proposed by cavity expansion theory and critical state concept. And the proposed interpretation method was applied to the field piezocone data and the results were compared to those obtained from laboratory tests. Its reliability was confirmed by the insignificant difference between the values of coefficient of consolidation from piezocone tests and laboratory consolidation tests.
As the permeability of soil adjacent to the vertical drain has a decisive effect on the rate of consolidation, the permeability of smear zone governs the rate of radial consolidation of PVD installed soft ground. In this study, a method was suggested to analyze the radial consolidation, based on consolidation characteristics of remolded clay, and was used to evaluate the consolidation of soft clay layer in Busan Newport. The suggested method provides more reliable consolidation behaviors than the conventional approach, which is based on the consolidation characteristics of undisturbed clay. The suggested method is also observed to be relatively insensitive to the uncertainty of $k_h/k_s$. The comparison between the analysis and field measurement revealed that the suggested method provided a reliable prediction on the rate of consolidation of PVD installed Busan new port clay and that an appropriate extent of smear zone was evaluated as about $3d_w$ by back analysis.
This paper describes a systematic way of identifying the horizontal coefficient of consolidation of clayey soil by applying an optimization technique to the early part of dissipation data measured from the self-boring pressuremeter strain holding test. An analytical solution developed by Randolph & Wroth (1979) was implemented in normalized form to express the build-up of excess pore pressures as a function of the rigidity index and subsequent dissipation of excess pore pressures around a pressuremeter Horizontal coefficient of consolidation was determined by minimizing the differences between theoretical and measured excess pore pressure curves over 50% degree of dissipation range using optimization technique. The effectiveness of the proposed back-analysis method was examined against the real fled performances obtained from pressuremeter strain holding tests at Gimje and Yangsan site. It is shown that the proposed back-analysis method can evaluates the rational horizontal coefficient of consolidation, which is similar to those obtained from the piezocone dissipation test. Furthermore, proposed method can evaluate appropriate coefficient of consolidation for soil under partially drained condition.
