Metabolic syndrome has become quite prevalent within our society. Over the past two decades, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome has sharply increased worldwide and it has become a major public health problem in several countries. It is associated with the global epidemic of obesity and diabetes mellitus and imposes numerous cardiovascular risks. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men, surpassed only by non-melanoma skin cancer. A considerable body of evidence exists suggesting that some components of the metabolic syndrome have been associated with the risk of prostate cancer. These components include obesity, an abdominal fat distribution, and hyperinsulinemia. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the most widely used therapeutic modality in prostate cancer. It changed the body composition and lipid profile of men with prostate cancer. Androgen deficiency is associated with increased levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, increased production of proinflammatory factors, and increased thickness of the arterial wall and contributes to endothelial dysfunction. The aim of this review is to evaluate the association between metabolic syndrome and prostate cancer and to discuss the implications of androgen deficiency in men with cardiovascular risk factors. A comprehensive literature search was carried out with the use of PubMed from 1980 through 2011, and relevant articles pertinent to metabolic syndrome and prostate cancer are evaluated and discussed.
The determination of the stress intensity factor at the crack tip is one of the most widely used methods to predict the fatigue life of aircraft structures. This prediction is more complicated for repaired cracks with bonded composite patch. This study is used to compute the stress intensity factor (SIF) and crack opening displacement (COD) for cracks repaired with single and double-sided composite patches. The effect of the presence of disbond region in adhesive at the crack was taken into consideration. The results show that there is a considerable reduction in the asymptotic value of the stress-intensity factors and the crack opening displacement at the crack tip. The use of a double-sided patch suppresses the bending effect due to the eccentricity of the patch on one side only.
Production and reproduction data of 47 Nili-Ravi buffaloes (162 records) were analyzed with regression techniques. Average lactation milk yield was $2,020.04{\pm}44.59$ liters, lactation length $277.42{\pm}5.70$ d and calving interval $467.10{\pm}11.58$ d. The ranges for these parameters respectively were : 609-3591 lit, 122-614 d and 228-982 d. Year of calving and lactation length had significant effect on total milk yield (p < 0.01), whereas other factors such as month of calving, lactation number and calving interval had no effect on total lactation milk yield. Year of calving had influenced significantly other traits (p < .01) such as calving interval and lactations completed. This indicated considerable environment role in buffalo productivity. Effect of month of calving on total lactation milk yield and other traits was however, found to be non-significant. Nili-Ravi buffaloes produced maximum milk during their first three lactations as compared to subsequent lactations. Regression model explained 40 percent variation in total lactation milk yield due to factors analyzed : animal (dam), year and month of calving lactation length and calving interval.
Accurate electroencephalography (EEG) forward calculation is of importance for the accurate estimation of neuronal electrical sources. Conventional studies concerning the EEG forward problems have investigated various factors influencing the forward solution accuracy, e.g. tissue conductivity values in head compartments, anisotropic conductivity distribution of a head model, tessellation patterns of boundary element models, the number of elements used for boundary/finite element method (BEM/FEM), and so on. In the present paper, we investigated the influence of modeling errors in the boundary element volume conductor models upon the accuracy of the EEG forward solutions. From our simulation results, we could confirm that accurate construction of boundary element models is one of the key factors in obtaining accurate EEG forward solutions from BEM. Among three boundaries (scalp, outer skull, and inner skull boundary), the solution errors originated from the modeling error in the scalp boundary were most significant. We found that the nonuniform error distribution on the scalp surface is closely related to the electrode configuration and the error distributions on the outer and inner skull boundaries have statistically meaningful similarity to the curvature distributions of the boundary surfaces. Our simulation results also demonstrated that the accumulation of small modeling errors could lead to considerable errors in the EEG source localization. It is expected that our finding can be a useful reference in generating boundary element head models.
Drugs are often taken together with meals and there are numerous opportunity for food-drug interaction to occure. Food-drug interactions and their clinical consequences are very complex indeed. The composition of the meal, and the volume of fluid that is ingested often are decisive factors in food-drug interactions. Various formulations of a specific drug may behave differently. Solutions and suspensions seem to be less susceptible and enteric-coated preparations are more susceptible, to food interactions than are other dosage forms but exceptions to this rule do exist. Furthermore, generic and environmental factors, disease and other drugs cause considerable inter- and intraindividual variation in food-drug interactions. Also, eating habits are dissimilar in different parts of the world, and diets often vary greatly from day to day. The taking of drugs together with meals offers some obvious benefits. It may help to reduce gastrointestinal irritation and compliance is improved. On the other hand, in some cases food interferes seriously with drug absorption. The purpose of this review is to clarify the complexity of food-drug interactions, and to discuss interactions that may be of clinical importance.
This study aims to understand why public information systems in agricultural fields have shown lower performances than other industrialized fields and industries and how these problems would be fixed and overcame. To accomplish this research purpose, this study would overview the previous studies on developing agricultural information systems in public sectors and would find out meaningful and considerable factors. This study would accept the methodologies of literature review and systems thinking approaches to understand the relationships among the found factors and to suggest the conceptual research model. Agricultural information system should take care to reduce implement and maintenance costs to reduce the negative relationships between costs and expected service value and between expected service value to perceived service value. Also, it should be understood that impersonal response would reduce the eager to use the services, so the government sectors should consider positively to adopt the concept of CRM even though the government sectors traditionally have ignored its necessity. The failure of public information systems/services may be caused not only by lack of the contents but also by the failure of the persistent post management.
This study was carried out to investigate factors affecting anaerobic digestion enhancement of waste activated sludge(WAS). In order to this investigation, the degradability and rupture of microorganisms cell present in WAS, and mesophilic anaerobic digestion(MAD) of these compounds, were also evaluated. The micro-organisms cell in WAS were ruptured by a mechanical jet stream and smashed under pressure of 30 bar. The rupture level of micro-organisms cell in WAS were determined using phosphate, soluble protein and soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD)concentrations. It was found that the rupture level of micro- organisms cell within WAS increased with increasing pretreatment times, and the pretreated WAS once under pressure of 30 bar resulted in an increase in VS removal and methane production of 5%, 9% over the intact WAS of 35%, 71%, respectively, in batchwise MAD of 6-day and 14-day retention time. With the pretreatment and MAD of 6-day retention time used, mesophlic bioconvertibility as the biogasification of WAS were found to be significantly higher biogas of 1, 850 ml than 300 ml under intact WAS. In conclusion it can be stated mechanical pretreatment enhances WAS bioconvertibility, while under identical treatment conditions, resulted in a considerable decrease in the bioconvertibility of intact WAS.

Correction Factor Method (CFM) is one of the earliest methods for simulating the actual behavior of structure according to construction sequences and practical implementation steps of the construction process which corrects the results of the conventional analysis just by the application of correction factors. The most important advantages of CFM are the simplicity and time-efficiency of the computations in estimating the final modified forces of the beams. However, considerable inaccuracy in evaluating the internal forces of the other structural members obtained by the moment equilibrium equation in the connection joints is the biggest disadvantage of the method. This paper proposes a novel method to eliminate the aforementioned defect of CFM by using the column shortening correction factors of the CFM to modify the axial stiffness of columns. In this method, the effects of construction sequences are considered by performing a single step analysis which is more time-efficient when compared to the staged analysis especially in tall buildings with higher number of elements. In order to validate the proposed method, three structures with different properties are chosen and their behaviors are investigated by application of all four methods of: conventional one-step analysis, sequential construction analysis (SCA), CFM, and currently proposed method.
Purpose: Based on previous researches on social factors of digital item purchase in digital contents distribution platforms such as SNS, we aim to develop the integrated model that accounts for the dynamic and interactive relationship between social structure indicators and digital item purchase. Research design, data and methodology: A PVAR model was used to capture endogenous and dynamic relationships between digital item purchase and network indicators. Results: We find that there exist considerable endogenous and dynamic relationships between digital item purchase and network structure variables. Not only lagged in-degree and out-degree but also in-closeness and out-closeness centrality have significant and positive impacts on digital item purchase. Lagged clustering has a significant and negative effect on digital item purchase. Lagged purchase has a significant and positive impact just on the present in-closeness and out-closeness centrality; but there is no significant effect of lagged purchase on the other two degree variables and clustering coefficient. We also find that both closeness centralities have much higher carryover effect on digital item purchase and that the elasticity of both closeness centralities on the purchase of digital items is even higher than that of other network structure variables. Conclusions: In-closeness and out-closeness are the most influential factors among social structure variables of this study on digital item purchase.
Since 1960's there have been conducted quite numbers of origin and destination (0-D) surveys in Korea, Most of them, however, were to be said not so successful. In this paper, it was investigated that why the previous 0-D surveys were failed, and that how it could be improved. The findings of this study are: 1. The collection of sample data itself was performed relatively well, but the problem was in the improper expansion methods which were applied. 2. To improve the expansion methods, it should be performed not only the dwelling unit-based sample surveys but also commercial vehicle survey, cordon line survey, screen line counts and other auxiliary travel surveys like transit patronage survey, vehicle miles survey etc. at the same time. 3. To expand the sample surveyed data in a proper way, the adjustment factors should take a disaggregate form and also should be applied not to the specific trips, but to the specific trip makers to avoid the bias which could be caused by the application of adjustment factors in a way that has been used previously. 4. If there is no considerable change in travel patterns, we can synthesize the present 0-D data with past surveyed sample data, using present statistic data in the same way which was developed in this paper when expanding and adjusting sample data.
