  • The technology in 3D modelling have advanced not only maps, heritages, constructions but also trees modelling. By laser scanning(Faro s350) and photogrammetry software(Pix4d) for 3D modelling, this study compared with real coniferous tree and both technology's results about characteristics of shape, texture, and dimensions. As a result, both technologies all showed high reproducibility. The scanning technique showed very good results in the reproduction about bark and leaves. Comparing the detailed dimensions on it, the error between the actual tree and modelling with scanning was 1.7~2.2%, and the scanning result was larger than the actual tree. The error between the actual tree and photogrammetry was only 0.2~0.5%, which was larger than the actual tree. On the other hand, the dark areas's modelling was not fully processed. This study is meaningful as a basic research that can be used for tree DB on BIM for the landscape architecture, landscape design and analysis with AR technology, historical tree and heritage also.

  • This study was conducted to understand the influences of forest structure on throughfall, stemflow and interception loss. The study plots included the natural old-growth deciduous, Pinus koraiensis and Abies holophylla forests in Gwangneung and the rehabilitated young mixed forest in Yangju, Gyeonggido. The Pinus koraiensis and Abies hotophylla had been planted in 1976. The rehabilitated young mixed forest had been established to control erosion in 1974. Total and net rainfall were monitored from March, 2003 to October, 2004. Tipping bucket rain gauge recorded total rainfall. Throughfall and stemflow were measured by custom-made tipping bucket and CR10X data logger at each $10m{\times}10m$ plots at intervals of 30 minutes. Interception loss in the Pinus koraiensis plot were most as 37.2% of total rainfall and least as 22.6% in the rehabilitated young mixed forest. Stemflow in the rehabilitated young mixed forest was 10.7% of total rainfall and stemflow in the Pinus koraiensis plot was 2.4%. The average throughfall ratio ranged from 66% to 77% depending on the canopy coverage. The relationship of stemflow and total rainfall represented in a linear regression equation though the variation of data was large. The ratio of stemflow-conversion was 2% of total rainfall in the Pinus koraiensis plot and 12% in the rehabilitated young mixed forest, respectively. The stem storage of the natural old-growth deciduous was the largest of 0.21 mm whereas that of the Pinus koraiensis plot was the least of 0.003 mm. A deciduous forest produced stemflow more than a coniferous forest due to a smooth bark and steeply angled branches. Interception loss of all study plots increased linearly as total rainfall increased. The distribution of interception loss data related in total rainfall became wider in a deciduous forest than a coniferous. It resulted from seasonality of leaf area index in a deciduous forest. As considered above results, it was confirmed that there were great differences of throughfall, stemflow and interception loss depending on forest stand structures. The simulation model for predicting interception loss must have parameters such as forest stand characteristics and LAI in order to describe the influence of forest structure on interception loss.

  • This research was carried out to examine the substitutional feasibility of low-priced materials produced in waste of forest instead of wheat flour which is extended for plywood adhesives. Wheat, pine bark, wood flour and pine foliage of coniferous trees or poplar foliage of hardwood species were selected and pulverized into 60-100 mesh minute powder after they were dried at $100-105^{\circ}C$ during 24 hours in the drying oven. The prepared particles as above were added to urea formaldehyde resin, urea-melamine copolymer resin and water soluble phenol formaldehyde resin in the ratio of 10, 20, 30 and 50%. After plywoods were processed by the above extending ratios, shear strength of extended plywoods were analyzed and discussed. The results obtained at this study were summarised as follows; 1. In the case of urea formaldehyde resin, both dry and wet shear strength of plywoods extended by wheat flour were shown the highest value. 2. Dry shear strength of urea-melamine copolymer resin was better than that of urea formaldehyde resin on the whole, while plywoods extended by wheat flour were shown excellent results. 3. Among 10% and 20% extensions of urea-melamine copolymer resin, the best results were shown by poplar leaves powder, wheat powder and wood flour. They had no significant difference statistically. 4. In the case of water soluble phenol formaldehyde resin, although dry shear strength of pine leaves powder was higher than that of wheat flour in the ratio of 10%, there was no significant difference between them in the ratio of 10 and 20%. 5. Among 20, 30 and 50% extensions of water soluble phenol formaldehyde resin, wet shear strength of wood flour and bark powder was higher than that of wheat flour. Wet shear strength of wood flour in the ratio of 10% was shown the same tendency as above.

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of $SO_2$ gas on growth of tree species and the effect of pretreatment of ABA to Pinus koraiensis. Abies holophylla and Taeus cuspidata on the susceptibility for $SO_2$ gas damage. The survey was carried out on the water contents of leaf and shoot, and the acidities of bark and leaf, and the chlorophyll and water soluble sulfur contents, and the changes of transpiration rates on selected seedlings exposed to $SO_2$ gas at seven levels : 0ppm, 0.5ppm, 1ppm, 2ppm, 4ppm, 26.4ppm ABA, 56.8ppm ABA. The results obtained from this research are as follows : 1. The water contents of leaf and shoot of the three tree species decreased with increasing concentrations of $SO_2$ gas and the relative susceptibility of Abies holophylla was larger than those of Taxus cuspidata and Pinus koraiensis because moisture diminution rates were higher in leaves and shoots of Abies holophylla than those of other species. 2. The acidities of bark and leaf of the three tree species increased with increasing concentrations of $SO_2$ gas. The relative susceptibility of Pinus koraiensis in bark acidity was larger than those of Abies holopfaylla and Toxus cuspidata. Abies holophylla was more susceptive than Pinus koraiensis and Taxus cuspidata. 3. Water soluble sulfur contents of the three tree species increased with increasing concentration of $SO_2$ gas. The relative susceptibility of Taxus cuspidata in water soluble sulfur contents was lager than those of Pinus koraiensis and Abies holophylla. 4. Leaf chlorophyll contents of the three tree species decreased with increasing concentrations of $SO_2$ gas. The order of the relative susceptibility in leaf chlorophyll contents was Taxus cuspidata, Abies holophylla and Pinus koraiensis. 5. Correlation coefficients among the measurement were highly significant for $SO_2$ treatment in all three tree species. 6. The transpiration rates of Abies holophylla and Taxus cuspidata did not change until up to 220 minutes after initiation of $SO_2$ gas fumigation, and changed a little during the time between 220 minutes and 270 minutes. On the other hand, Pinus koraiensis continued to change in transpiration rates little by little from the start of $SO_2$ gas treatment up to 270 minutes, meaning that Pinus koraiensis is less sensitive to ABA. 7. When 2ppm of $SO_2$ was treated. ABA pretreatment effect was detected on the six measurement parameters. ABA affected the resistance of plants by inducing stomata closure. 8. The order of relative susceptibility of the three tree species to $SO_2$ gas fumigation was Abies holophylla, Taxus cuspidata and Pinus koraiensis. Pinus koraiensis was more resistant to $SO_2$ gas than Abies holophylla and Taxus cuspidata.
