The study proposes multiple TRIZ contradiction solution strategies for addressing PC (Physical Contradiction) and TC (Technical Contradiction) by implementing TRIZ cause-and-effect tree. The problem associated with TC of the ends is solved by PC of means which employs a causal relationship between causes and effects. The TRIZ contradiction solution strategies demonstrated in this research are classified into 3 types of combined strategy as follows: 1. To-Be PC and AS-Is PC, 2.To-Be PC and As-Is TC, 3.As-Is PC and To-Be TC. The combined strategy of To-Be PC and As-Is PC is similar to a divide-and-conquer technique. This strategy adopts parallel strategies using 4 separation principles in time, in space, between parts and the whole, and upon condition of two reversed-PCs. Moreover, its application elucidates the conflict relationship of two TCs from the study. The integrated 4 separation principles and 40 inventive principles present an effective synergy effect from the combination, and further addresses the problems in the TRIZ contradiction resolution strategies. Combined strategy of To-Be PC and As-Is TC implements the 40 inventive principles that To-Be PC of the means resolves the As-Is TC of the ends. Combined strategy of As-Is PC and To-Be TC also uses inventive principles to the As-Is PC of the means to solve the To-Be TC of the ends. In addition, propositional and logical relationship of necessary and sufficient conditions between TC and PC is used to support the validity of 3 TRIZ contradiction solution strategies. In addition, 3 other strategies of necessary and sufficient conditions validate the contraposition relationship of the truth table. This study discusses TRIZ case studies from National Quality Circle Contest from the years between 2011 and 2014 to provide the usage guidelines of TRIZ contradiction solutions for quality purposes. Examining analysis from the case studies and investigating combined strategies allows the users to obtain comprehensive understanding.
Many practical control problems for the complex, uncertain or large-scale plants, need to simultaneously achieve a number of objectives, which may conflict or compete with each other. If the conventional optimization methods are applied to solve these control problems, the solution process may be time-consuming and the resulting solution would ofter lose its original meaning of optimality. Nevertheless, the human operators usually performs satisfactory results based on their qualitative and heuristic knowledge. In this paper, we investigate the control strategies of the human operators, and propose a fuzzy model-based multi-objective satisfactory controller. We also apply it to the automatic train operation(ATO) system for the magnetically levitated vehicles(MAGLEV). One of the human operator's strategies is to predict the control result in order to find the meaningful solution. In this paper, Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is used to simulated the prediction procedure. Another str tegy is to evaluate the multiple objectives with respect to their own standards. To realize this strategy, we propose the concept of a satisfactory solution and a satisfactory control scheme. The MAGLEV train is a typical example of the uncertain, complex and large-scale plants. Moreover, the ATO system has to satisfy multiple objectives, such as seed pattern tracking, stop gap accuracy, safety and riding comfort. In this paper, the speed pattern tracking controller and the automatic stop controller of the ATO system is designed based on the proposed control scheme. The effectiveness of the ATO system based on the proposed scheme is shown by the experiments with a rotary test bed and a real MAGLEV train.
Dual response surface optimization (DRSO) attempts to optimize mean and variability of a process response variable using a response surface methodology. In general, mean and variability of the response variable are often in conflict. In such a case, the process engineer need to understand the tradeoffs between the mean and variability in order to obtain a satisfactory solution. Recently, a Posterior preference articulation approach to DRSO (P-DRSO) has been proposed. P-DRSO generates a number of non-dominated solutions and allows the process engineer to select the most preferred solution. By observing the non-dominated solutions, the DM can explore and better understand the trade-offs between the mean and variability. However, the non-dominated solutions generated by the existing P-DRSO is often incomprehensive and unevenly distributed which limits the practicability of the method. In this regard, we propose a modified P-DRSO using multiple objective genetic algorithms. The proposed method has an advantage in that it generates comprehensive and evenly distributed non-dominated solutions.
This study aims to develop a solution to inter-floor noise complaints by exploring cases of noise complaints between floors and by identifying the demands and needs of the residents. For this purpose, a survey was conducted targeting residents who were sorted into groups depending on their experiences with inter-floor noise. This survey was carried out from June 11, 2014 to June 16, 2014. A total of 100 copies of the questionnaire was distributed to the residents, of which 98 were completed and collected. Data were statistically processed in accordance with SPSS WIN 18.0. The results showed that the leading causes of inter-floor noise complaints were residents' differences in schedules and their inconsideration in behavior. Thus, the solution to this issue is three-fold: first, to take social measures in order to improve communication and understanding between residents so they can be mindful of their noise levels; second, to reinforce noise control regulation; and third, to improve noise reduction design within the building architecture.
The purpose of this study was to find a therapeutic intervention for a couple in the pre-divorce stage. We used data from the case study to examine the factors related to marital conflict and enhancements related to the family of origin. Our sample was the couple in pre-divorce stage who has been married for 3 years. The therapeutic intervention methods used were taken from Positive Psychology, Family Systems Theory, Communication Theory, and Solution-Focused Therapy. We counseled the couple once a week for 10 sessions from $5^{th}$ October to $7^{th}$ December in 2010. Our objective was to give a positive perspective on the couple who was in the pre-divorce stage. We also provided clear-cut, practical techniques for responding productively to inappropriate expressions of anger. The couple acquired strategies to make their relationship work more effectively. Finally, the couple set their family goals for adjustment instead of divorce.

In this work, we consider the optimization problem of minimizing energy consumption for real-time multicast over wireless multi-hop networks. Previously, a distributed primal-dual subgradient algorithm was used for finding a solution to the optimization problem. However, the traditional subgradient algorithms have drawbacks in terms of i) sensitivity to iteration parameters; ii) need for saving previous iteration results for computing the optimization results at the current iteration. To overcome these drawbacks, using a joint network coding and scheduling optimization framework, we propose a novel distributed primal-dual Random Deflected Subgradient (RDS) algorithm for solving the optimization problem. Furthermore, we derive the corresponding recursive formulas for the proposed RDS algorithm, which are useful for practical applications. In comparison with the traditional subgradient algorithms, the illustrated performance results show that the proposed RDS algorithm can achieve an improved optimal solution. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is stable and robust against the choice of parameter values used in the algorithm.
An adaptive subcarrier allocation scheme based on comparative superiority of opportunity cost between groups is proposed for the enhancement of system capacity and its simple implementation at the base station of a multiuser OFDM system. The proposed algorithm is similar to the blockwise or the decentralized subcarrier allocation algorithm proposed by Xiaowen et al and Alen et al, respectively. In the proposed algorithm, however, all subcarriers are grouped according to the coherence bandwidth and the comparative superiority concept, which swaps the groups between users if the system capacity is increased, is adopted for the enhancement of system capacity. In addition, the proposed algorithm provides a simple solution for the conflict problem among users by reallocating only the conflicted groups and unassigned groups instead of reallocating entire groups. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm increases the system capacity effectively over a static, an adaptive blockwise, and a decentralized subcarrier allocation algorithms.
At an integrated steel mill, raw materials such as coal and iron ore are discharged by ships through multiple unloaders. The discharged raw material is then transported to storage yards through multiple routes established simultaneously on a fairly complicated belt conveyer network. Formulating an efficient unloading schedule is a quite cumbersome task due to the insufficient number of berths and unloaders as well as the potential conflict among routes being used simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a solution approach to the scheduling problem and describe the prototype system that we built as an implementation of our approach.
